16 Tips To Enjoy Fresh Juicy Fruit With Our Meals

Malaysians have never been as busy with life as we do in the 21st century! From the moment the alarm clock goes off, to the mad morning commute to work after work rush hour, there are little opportunities to whip up nutritious meals to feed the body and mind.

Yet, did you know that the best nutrients are also the most easily available in your kitchen? Plump golden mangoes and creamy bananas sitting at the kitchen countertop, good old apples a¬¬nd lemons, or a bag of berries stashed in the freezer – these natural immune boosters are just waiting for an opportunity to provide precious nutrients to even the busiest person.

“Fresh juices are precious elixirs of life. Whether taken directly or whipped up in a jiffy as a delicious drink using a juicer or blender, fresh fruits and vegetables contain a complete amount of the required vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients (plant chemicals) required by our bodies daily,” explains Ling Mooi Li, founder of Juice Works, Malaysia’s leading premium supplier of freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juice and smoothies.

“It is a proven fact that fresh juices from whole fruits and vegetables contain a wealth of nutrients that are extremely beneficial to us. Juicing can reduce our risk of illnesses and diseases; boost our immune system that’s constantly battling daily stresses, cleanse our overworked liver and internal organs, aid digestion, removes harmful toxins, and even help us lose weight.”

What are the ways we can incorporate fruits and vegetables into our daily diets?

Juice Works shares 16 interesting, and delicious, options so that we can reap the incredible benefits of these life giving natural plants!

1) Make it a point to shop only once weekly so that your fruits and veges remain fresh

2) Keep them easily reachable either on your countertop arranged nicely on a bowl or in a basket, or the top shelve of your fridge.

3) Put an apple or two into your lunch box.

4) For children’s lunch boxes, take the time to cut them into slices or arrange them to create a picture so that it looks fun and attractive.

5) Almost every dish can include fruits and vegetables – as finely chopped or shredded toppings, as ingredients, or garnishings.

6) For breakfast, top up your cereal or muesli with bananas, peaches, apples or berries

7) Instead of soups as starters, how about a smoothie instead?

8) Main courses can be served with sliced fruits like apricots and apples.

9) Instead of reaching for a cold beer or glass of wine to wind down a day from work, reach out for a juice instead. Try this as an alternative mojito by blending a cucumber with celery, lemon, celery
stalks, some kale leaves and fresh mint.

10) Need a chilled drink or ice cream to battle the heat? Forego that store-bought sugar and calorie laden ice cream and make your own instead. Fruits are nature’s natural candies. Just blend your favourite fruits like mango or strawberries, pour the mixture into little jelly moulds and pop them into the freezer to enjoy the awesome icy delicacies after a few hours!

11) Although juices are best consumed freshly squeezed, you can still keep your favourite combinations in a thermos to be consumed on the way to work or a healthy mid-morning drink.

12) Cut the fruits into bite size cubes and mix them with a variety of unsalted nuts and seeds as an easily consumable snack at all times.

13) Create an interesting combination by mixing and matching your fruits, for instance, crunchy apples with juicy grapes and creamy bananas.

14) Celery and carrot sticks are rather sad looking snacks amidst our delicious repertoire of Malaysian snacks, but add in some fun and taste by whipping up a yummy dip created with what else, more fruits and vegetables seasoned with some mustard or honey! Or blend some peppers with cucumber and Greek yogurt for a creamy dip.

15) During cooking, jazz up your usual recipes by using blended fruits as healthy sauces or sauce bases.

16) For parties – simply arrange cubed mango, melons, kiwi, grapes and strawberries on little bamboo skewers for a pretty platter as a convenient appetiser or dessert.

And there you have it! These creative ways with nature’s bounty will help you maintain your required daily intake of fresh fruits and vegetables.

But if you are still lacking the time to create your own fresh elixirs at home, fret not for all you have to do is enjoy a made-to-order juice or smoothie from any of Juice Works Malaysia’s 25 outlets conveniently located at major malls around 4 states.

“Since 2004, we have been dedicated to bringing you the freshest juices and smoothies hand crafted with care where each cup offers a premium amount of natural goodness and vitamins as well as the most delicious taste you can ever imagine,” says Ling.

To make it even more convenient to safely store and carry around freshly squeezed juices, Juice Works Malaysia has launched a new design to join its popular tumbler collection.

These tumblers are made from eco friendly, recycled materials in line with Juice Works' focus on all things natural. They are available at all Juice Works kiosks while stocks last. Customers are entitled to a 10% discount, and Juice Works members even more discounts, when they bring their own Juice Works tumbler for a purchase. LUCOZADE SPORT™ Kickstarts ‘Fuel Your Performance’ Campaign To Educate and Support Dreams of Citizen Athletes

The Lucozade Sport™ ‘Fuel Your Performance’ Campaign got off to an energetic start recently at its first running clinic with Pacesetters Athletic Club, SMART Athletics Club and Tadonamo Triathletes. The exclusive event was the latest in a series of campaign activities designed to engage with Malaysian runners and an ongoing effort to bring its scientifically-proven formula to more than 1 million Malaysians through ground-level events and sponsorship of popular events such as the recent Reebok Spartan Race. Participants had the opportunity to learn from seasoned runner Edan Syah and exercise & sports nutritionist Dr Mahenderan Appukutty, Faculty of Sports Science and Recreation from Universiti Teknologi MARA who shared their experience on training and nutrition for sports enthusiasts.

“Helping dedicated athletes to achieve their performance goals is an important brand value for Lucozade Sport™. By supporting accomplished athletes and inspiring others to achieve their own dreams, we are sharing resources, skills and knowledge that encourage Malaysians to lead more active lives,” said Lee Hon Tong, Regional General Manager, Suntory Beverage & Food Malaysia, Singapore & Hong Kong. “We embarked on this campaign to reach out to Malaysian citizen athletes from all walks of life and our ‘Fuel Your Performance’ Advocates are exceptional individuals who have accomplished many goals in addition to the demands of work and family. They serve as inspirational role models for aspiring runners to kick-start their own dream, because they are living proof that dreams can indeed become a reality.”

In addition to sharing his personal training strategy, Edan also said, “It has taken me eight years and nine marathons for me to realise my true potential as a runner – it’s a long process but I believe it’s never too late to start as long as you’re willing to train hard. By sharing my experiences and life lessons from being a ‘citizen runner’, I hope to inspire the younger generation and see Malaysian marathoners in the 2020 Olympics!”

“High-performance athletes require a dietary plan that’s tailored to support and enhance their training. This includes consuming an appropriate amount of protein to help to build, maintain and repair muscle tissue. Hydration and energy are also essential factors for runners as stores of carbohydrates in the body get used up,” explained Dr Mahenderan as he provided structured guidelines designed to help participants fuel their runs with the right nutrition and hydration.

To maintain consistent energy levels, approximately 30-60g of carbohydrates are needed every hour – this would be equivalent to 1-2 bottles of Lucozade Sport™ for each hour of racing. Its science-based formulation of electrolytes and carbohydrates is specifically designed provide enhanced hydration to fuel athletes during prolonged exercise.

To attest to the importance of training, nutrition and hydration, the four ‘Fuel Your Performance’ Advocates are accomplished athletes who have achieved numerous accolades. Their examples further advocate the importance of achieving one’s dream:

Edan Syah started running eight years ago. The self-coached runner qualified for the 119th Boston Marathon 2015 and finished with a time of 2:41:55, and became the fastest and the youngest Malaysian to have run the Boston Marathon! At the Tokyo Marathon 2016, he achieved a personal record of 2:38:55 and is now ranked as the fastest marathon runner in Malaysia for 2016. Edan aspires to be the youngest and fastest Malaysian to complete the 6 World Marathon Majors (WMM) under 2hours 45minutes by 2018.

Mohd Amran bin Abdul Ghani has worked as a fire fighter since 2001. In 2014, this dedicated athlete came in first in the IRONMAN 70.3 at Putrajaya and again at IRONMAN Langkawi with a time of 10:15; at both races he was crowned Best Malaysian. This comes on the heels of his accomplishments in Powerman Malaysia where he came in first in his age category for 5 consecutive years, from 2009-2013. Amran’s dream is to race in international triathlons all over the world.

Mohamed Allie Helmy is a corporal in the Armed Forces who keeps fit because of passion, not only because of his line of work. He was the champion for the Port Dickson International Triathlon, Kedah International Duathlon 2015 and 113 Desaru Triathlon; and came in close as the second Malaysian in IRONMAN Langkawi 2015. Helmy aspires to race in the IRONMAN World Championships in Kona, Hawaii next year.

Alex Au-Yong wanted to channel his passion for long-distance running into something tangible for communities in need, so he created the XtraMile Run, Malaysia’s first-of-its-kind 100km charity run. The first event in 2011 raised RM111,000 for StART Academy, and the subsequent run in 2013 raised RM165,000 for the Dignity for Children Foundation. For 2016, his goal is to raise RM500,000 to ignite community involvement, provide education on holistic nutrition to children.

These Advocates embody what it means to reach for their dreams, and Lucozade Sport™ now invites other Malaysian runners to share their hopes and dreams as well via myLucozade@suntory.com.

A trusted brand since 1927, Lucozade Sport™ continues to hydrate and engage with Malaysian athletes at high-profile sporting events. Find out more about the ‘Fuel Your Performance’ campaign at www.lucozadesport.com or www.youtube.com/lucozade.

Media Release: Summer 2016 Nike Free

Building upon over a decade of Nike Free innovation, Nike unveils new additions to its Free footwear family. Each features a progressive geometric auxetic midsole designed to enable an athlete’s natural motion and develop strength, whether they are running or training.

Drawing upon new studies that reveal how the foot expands and contracts upon impact with and liftoff from the ground, the splaying, auxetic midsole mimics how the body and foot react to force. It absorbs shock while accounting for the dual-plane expansion in foot size — approximately one size in length and two sizes in width — that occurs throughout an athlete’s foot strike.

Moreover, the multi-directional outsole flexibility closely mimics this changing shape, whether an athlete is moving linearly in running or multi-directionally in training. The resulting flexibility puts the foot, rather than the shoe, in control. Or, as explained by three-time gold medal sprinter Allyson Felix, "Using Nike Free footwear in my training is all about strengthening my feet. I really like having that natural movement in my shoes. Everyone’s feet are different, so it’s great to have a shoe that really moves with you."

Nike Free RN Motion Flyknit (RRP: RM599)
This running shoe enables the runner’s most dynamic movement. It pairs a fully adaptive, single-piece Nike Flyknit upper featuring 3D ribbing from the forefoot to heel with the new auxetic midsole.

Nike Free RN Flyknit (RRP: RM519)
The zonally engineered, lightweight Flyknit upper combines a sock-like fit with a classic silhouette that molds to the foot. The midsole features the same expansive auxetic technology with a brand new, softer IU foam for additional underfoot comfort.

Nike Free RN (RRP: RM439)
Lightweight and dynamic, this running shoe unites an engineered mesh upper for flexible support with a brand new, softer IU foam for additional comfort underfoot.

Women's Nike Free Transform Flyknit (RRP: RM599)
This low-profile training shoe features a Flyknit upper designed to enhance support. Flywire locks down the foot during lateral cuts while an integrated heel counter keeps an athlete stable for movement in all directions. A two-piece interior pairs cushioning for repetitive high-impact moves with a firm outsole that delivers more support during the toughest workouts.

Men's Nike Free Train Force Flyknit (Not available in Malaysia)
This low-profile training shoe features a 5/8-height Flyknit upper designed to promote a feeling of support. Flywire locks down the foot during lateral cuts while an integrated heel counter keeps an athlete stable during hard cuts. Dual-density tooling pairs cushioning for repetitive high-impact moves with a firm outsole that delivers stiffer support during rigorous lifts.

Kuala Lumpur, 10 May 2016 – The world’s leading deodorant, Rexona together with over 15,000 participants of the Electric Run moved for two hours to bring hope to the disabled wishing to regain their mobility. Rexona partnered with Electric Run as the Official Freshmoves Partner to ensure that participants stayed fresh while they moved for a good cause. Motion sensors placed at the concert area detected every Freshmoves made by participants where the accumulated movements were converted into cash donation.

During the Electric Run on 7 May at Selangor Turf Club, Rexona’s newly appointed brand ambassador- SonaOne performed and encouraged the participants to move for the cause and stay fresh at the same time.

Guan Lee, Head of Skincare and Deodorant Categories, Unilever (M) Holdings Sdn Bhd said: “Through the Rexona Freshmoves Campaign, we are delighted to encourage people to move more. The cash donation will be channelled to five disability charities with the aim to change the lives of children and young adults with mobility disabilities caused by accident or illness such as diabetes. The funds will provide them with mobility aids such as limbs, prostheses, crutches, wheelchairs and access to physiotherapy.”

The proceeds will benefit five disability charities, namely Pusat Harian Kanak-kanak Spastik, Legs for Legless by Rotary Club of Bandar Sunway, Society for the Orthopedically Handicapped (POCAM), Special Children Society of Ampang (SCSOA) and Pertubuhan Amal Sosial Masyarakat Penyayang Malaysia.

“Everyone deserves to lead a better life. We hope that the proceeds will enhance the life of those that are disabled and allow them to gain their mobility. Through Rexona Freshmoves campaign, our aim was to inspire and encourage Malaysians to not only move for themselves but also move for a good cause and make a difference,” added Guan Lee.

The new Rexona MotionSense is activated by movement. It contains microcapsules filled with fragrance that burst with friction, so that with every move, a burst of freshness is released. Rexona MotionSense keeps you fresher with every move!

Media Release: The Under Armour Test of Will 2016 Hits Malaysia Like A Storm

Petaling Jaya, April 2016 – Triple Pte. Ltd., the exclusive distributor for U.S. high performance sports apparel Under Armour has hit Malaysia with a two-day event in celebration of human performance, functional fitness and training lifestyle.

The Under Armour Test of Will 2016 is an elite Southeast Asia regional event like no other that is accessible to everyone with the will to train. The fitness challenge is distinctively curated for the growing community of advanced athletes, high achievers and fitness enthusiasts with a drive for competition across Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. The first national heat kicked off in Singapore followed by the Philippines, and will be hitting Thailand soon, whereby the two highest scoring men and women of the national heats from the respective country will then compete in the Grand Finale in Singapore.

Over the course of two days, the Malaysia’s national heat attracted over 803 contestants competing under one roof. Each of them was required to complete a 4-minute circuit challenge that assesses pure functional fitness through callisthenic motion using body weight and simple gear. The circuit challenge comprised of four sets of exercises: burpees, squats, dumbbell presses and pull-ups (inclined pull-ups for women), where each contestant was to complete the maximum number of reps he or she can achieve within 60 seconds respectively.

Both men and women were not spared the goblet squats which came as part of the second challenge. While men endured 20kg, the women bore 10kg.

Following two gruelling challenges, contestants had to endure their third challenge right after in the form of dumbbell presses, 20kg for men and 10kg for women.

Under Armour Malaysia’s Brand Athlete, Nana al Haleq continued to test her will at the 1-minute pull-ups.

Contestants were also treated with an intensity challenge organised by Subaru, where they were required to carry and stack eight tyres from one end to another as fast as possible. The fastest female or male to stack the eight tyres will win RM300 worth of Subaru merchandise.

On top of that, the crowd was entertained by a showdown between Captain America and Iron Man, played by our very own Malaysia’s Brand Athlete Kit Mah and Peter Davis. The Under Armour Civil War Alter Ego collection is now available at all the brand houses.

Jonathan Wong and Andrew Kwan were the best under the male category with the highest score of 148 and 145, while Elaine Hong Ai Leen and Letchumi Sinadurai made the ladies proud by emerging as the top scorers for the female category, scoring a total rep of 217 and 193 respectively. These four winners have won a trip to Singapore to compete in the Under Armour Test of Will Grand Finale which will be held on 28 May 2016 at Gardens by the Bay.

At the Grand Finale, the best contestants from the four countries will battle it out over a series of challenges in a specially built 14-metre tower designed to test strength, endurance, determination and will. The overall winner will become Under Armour’s Southeast Asia Brand Athlete and receive a 12-month Under Armour sponsorship package. On top of that, both winners in the male and female categories will be featured in leading health magazines, Men’s Health Singapore and SHAPE Singapore.
