Slide the City is a global phenomenon that brings a gigantic slip n’ slide onto city streets and has invaded major cities such as United States, Columbia, Canada, United Kingdom, Korea, Japan, Brunei, Hong Kong, Macau, China, Taiwan and many more. Monkey Theory Sdn. Bhd. first brought the iconic slide to Malaysia in December 2015 and has since travelled across Malaysia and landed in states such as Penang, Melaka, Kuantan and Johor Bahru.

Slide the City Malaysia also aims to raise awareness of obesity, targeting a healthy lifestyle in a fun and engaging event in which the whole family can participate.

Besides experiencing the premium slide, visitors will also get to participate in the carnival-like atmosphere with many other activities which will take place simultaneously. The event will feature live music, and carnival games such as the Rodeo Bull, Dunking Game, Bungee Run, and Gladiator Joust. There will also be a host of other activities set to offer fun for the whole family, and visitors will also be invited to partake in the many food offerings of over 15 food trucks in presence.

“Slide the City is also proud to partner with Wahoo Events for their Shark Savers campaign. This is a dear cause to us as we pledge to say NO to the consumption of shark fins. As organisers of Slide the City, not only are we committed to this campaign, we are also firm believers that as responsible citizens of the world, we should do our part in helping spread awareness to preserve our natural resources for future generations. In relation to this, we would also like to encourage everyone to pledge for this cause and say NO to shark fins and any shark related products sold in the market.” Delon continues.

This event is held just before the school holidays and suitable for individuals aged 6 years and above, group of friends and family. It is a fun program that promotes family activity besides facilitating positive changes in improving healthy lifestyle.

Our aim is simple which is to raise as much as possible for Young Scientist Day, who will use those funds to make meaningful contribution in providing a platform for our future generation to pursue their natural curiosity and inventiveness in the field of science.

The YSD is an educational event for school students aged 7 to 17 years old held annually by Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. The main objective of YSD is to understand the practical application and utility of science by applying hands-on activities to proof the principles of science. The first YSD was held on 27th May 2014.

Following the success of this program, we expanded our YSD program to focus on 6 rural schools and inspired more than 1,500 school students. The major limitation of organising YSD is the financial constraint as the activities in this program are hands-on which require large amount of consumables.

Your participation in the YSD Charity Run enables will be contributed in organising our upcoming YSD2018 program that will benefit our future generation.

The run kicked off at 5.30 a.m. for the 21 km followed by the 10 km challenge at 6.30 a.m. attracting over 9,000 enthusiastic runners for the final leg of IJM Allianz Duo Highway Challenge. Participants got to run on a totally closed highway which started along the roads at Sunway Pyramid and were treated to a breathtaking view of sunrise against the backdrop of the city skyline along the race route.

Runners who also participated in the first leg of the run at Besraya Highway were eager to give their best for the second leg as the final winners of the Duo Highway Challenge were selected according to their fastest combined timing from the 21km and 13km at the NPE and Besraya Highway Challenge respectively.

The duo highway challenge was held in collaboration with IJM Corporation Berhad (“IJM”) and Allianz Malaysia Berhad (“Allianz”) as title sponsors and Besraya (M) Sdn Bhd and New Pantai Expressway Sdn Bhd (a wholly-owned subsidiary of IJM Corporation Berhad) as the venue sponsor. The event was organized by EC Pixels Sdn Bhd.

Dato’ Soam Heng Choon, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of IJM Corporation Berhad said: “It is great to see the participants running on a closed highway as this is a rare occasion. We agreed to conduct the run on the highway to create awareness on the accessibility and convenience of the two highways that we own in an exciting way. In addition to this, our Corporate Social Responsibility focus is to bring the community together through sport events and promote fitness and healthy living. Today’s turnout surpassed our expectations, showing us that awareness is created. At IJM, we believe that good fitness will always bring out more consistency and better results.”

Sean Wang, Chief Operations Officer of Allianz Malaysia Berhad said: “Being able to witness thousands of Malaysians challenging themselves to run for both events has assured us that we are achieving our goals in advocating healthy living among Malaysians. Allianz will constantly support such events as there is a growing interest in the running community where people are taking action to make healthy changes to their lifestyle. We are proud to be able to partner with IJM for Malaysia’s first Duo Highway Challenge as it is a great start to many more future endeavours that will benefit the community in a healthy way.”

The supporters and finishers also participated in exciting activities in the Race Village at Bandar Sunway, including the electric buzzer game, various one-minute challenges and digital photo booth organized by IJM as well as the opportunity to grab Allianz’s exclusive promotion rates for home insurance premium plans during the event.

The highlight of the prize-giving ceremony was the winners for the overall Duo Highway Challenge winning trips to go overseas. The champion of the men’s category for the Duo Highway Challenge is Poo Vasanthan Subramaniam Vasanthan won a round trip to Japan along with a cash prize of RM2,000 and a trophy with a total time of 2 hours and 30 seconds, followed by Anas Rosli who came in second place with a total time of 2 hours, 1 minute and 36 seconds and won a round trip to Thailand with a cash prize of RM1,000 and a trophy. Lastly, Azwan Bin Bujing who was in third place with a total time of 2 hours, 5 minutes and 40 seconds won a round trip to Thailand with a cash prize of RM500 and a trophy.

Poo Vasanthan Subramaniam the champion for men’s category on the Duo Highway Challenge said, “I feel very happy to be named as the overall champion for IJM Allianz Duo Highway Challenge. I want to thank my family and friends for their support. I spent at least two hours of training every day and I’m very happy with the results. My next aim is to compete in a race at Terengganu.”

In addition to that, for the women’s category the overall champion for Duo Highway Challenge goes to Sheela Samivellu with a total time of 2 hours, 19 minutes and 38 seconds. She also won a round trip to Japan with a cash prize of RM 2,000 and a trophy. The first runner up goes to Loh Chooi Fern with the time of 2 hours, 32 minutes and 21 seconds, who took home a cash prize of RM1,000, a trophy and a round trip to Thailand. Susan Khoo with a time of 2 hours, 43 minutes and 56 seconds got third place and also won a round trip to Thailand, cash prize of RM500 and a trophy.

“Today’s run was a bit challenging because we started at 5.30am. However, the weather was chilly and it actually motivated me to finish my run and do my best. A tip to beginners out there is that you can improve your kilometres gradually. Try to not overdo it or else you will injure yourself. My plan after this is to do more 21km runs in order to sustain my performance and since 21km is not easy, it will be a challenge for me to do my best.” said Sheela Samivellu the overall champion for the Duo Highway Challenge women’s category.

Coming in at first place for the Men’s Open 21km category was Poo Vasanthan Subramaniam Vsanthan, who crossed the finishing line at 1 hour, 15 minutes and 35 seconds, followed by Vasanthan Balakrishnan coming in close at second place with a time of 1 hour, 15 minutes and 52 seconds and Anas Rosli coming in third with a time of 1 hour, 16 minutes and 6 seconds.

New Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon Route To Showcase Iconic Singapore Landmarks Past and Present

Singapore, 31 August 2017 – Organisers of the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2017 (SCSM 2017) announced new “heritage” routes and entertainment points for race day on 3rd December.

The new routes will allow runners to enjoy a historic cultural journey through Singapore as they race past Little India en route to iconic heritage sites in Chinatown, the Malay Heritage area, and city centre before being flanked by towering glass structures in the Central Business District. In addition to the new sights and sounds, runners can also look forward to an improved, safer race experience with full road closures across over 90% of the route – the most ever of any race in Singapore.

Routes
Beginning from Orchard Road, runners in the Full and Half Marathon category will race through Singapore’s shopping district before turning left towards Bugis, Rochor and the Arab Street enclave– new features on this year’s routes.

In the heritage stretch, runners will race pass the National Museum of Singapore, the iconic Masjid Sultan Mosque, OId Hill Street Police Station, and traditional shophouses on their way to bustling Chinatown and the newly developed Downtown Core - the economic heart of Singapore.

After sharing 12km, the runners split at Marina Green, with half marathoners making the u-turn towards Marina Bay Sands, while full marathon participants advance into the spectacular lushurban Gardens by the Bay.

An addition to the route this year, the 5km loop which passes through Gardens by the Bay, reduces the time spent along East Coast Parkway, making for wider pathways and more room for overtaking.

For the first time, over 90% of the route will see full road closure this year to align with World Marathon Majors standards and offer a better car-free experience to runners.

The 10km category will flag off outside One Fullerton, with a picturesque backdrop of the Central Business District. The route will take runners southward, passing through the Downtown Core before looping back onto the reclaimed Marina Bay.

At the 35km mark, half and full marathon runners will merge to run the penultimate 5km of the race together before splitting into respective lanes 2km from the end. The split will allow faster runners in the marathon category a smooth finish on their final approach towards the all new finish line on the Padang.

The new centralized finish line is designed to cultivate a spectator-friendly atmosphere allowing friends, family and loved ones to line the route and welcome runners on the home stretch.

Commenting on the new route, Geoff Meyer, Managing Director of IRONMAN Asia, said “This new route showcases the best of Singapore past and present, and documents the story of the iconic city from its humble beginnings. With the goal of reaching the World Marathon Majors, we felt it was important to show the world key Singapore icons through a route that is a truly unique representation of this cosmopolitan city.”

Enhancements
Building on the race’s best practices from 2016, both the Half and Full marathons will have an hour-long flag-off beginning simultaneously at 4:30am, while runners in the 10km category will start at 7:15am.

Runners in the Half and Full marathons will be divided into five main pens, based on runners’ pace. This year, the pens will feature additional entrances to facilitate easy access for runners at all times.

Geoff Meyer added “Since we began organising the race, we’ve implemented some best practices which have been very well received. This year, we’re building on them by adding entertainment and features which simulate the runner experience at the World Marathon Majors. Working closely with partners and government bodies, we’re confident that this will be the best SCSM yet, and look forward to sharing this experience come race day.”

Register for SCSM 2017 at www.singaporemarathon.com. Standard Chartered Cardholders will enjoy 15% off registration fee across all categories.
