Pre Innov8 Run Post

What? Innov8 Run Briefing & Lunch

Where? Bon Ton Restaurant, Jalan Conlay, KL.

When? Saturday, 26 Oct 2008, 12pm

In order to participate in the Innov8 Run next week, all the 9 selected participants must attend this compulsory briefing session at Bon Ton Restaurant.

I arrived at the restaurant 12pm sharp. It was kinda deserted....and spooky. But everything changed when I saw Sun, from Samsung whose name is as bright as her cheerful disposition.

Raj, Daniel and Kong were already there. We were soon joined by the rest. We went around the table introducing ourselves. Then, a short briefing on the Innov8 run. There will be 4 in a car. 3 participants and 1 marshall, to keep an eye on us. So, no cheating ya.....LOL! We will be going around KL treasure hunting.

I was told there are few more teams from the media and people from blogmob that will compete with us. Bring it On!

While waiting for our food to arrive, Lawrence gave us some demo of what this cool phone can do. I was very impressed by the Innov8 phone. The first 8 megapixel phone and with all the cool entertainment features like movie, music, games, internet surfing.....and with this baby, you will never worry about getting lost as it comes with GPS. Click here for details.

You know you are die-hard blogger if you shoot your food before eating it. :)

This was mine.....East Coast Platter - Nasi Kerabu and condiments. Tasted very good!

After we cleaned up our plates, it was time to decide which group we belonged to. Coloured papers were drawn from a bowl. There will be red, yellow and blue team. I didn't get to choose because I was the last one to draw. So, fate had decided that I would be in the red team with Kong and Yee Leng. All the best partners!

Last but not the least - Dessert. This is Bon Ton Cendol. The waiter insisted that this was cendol, Bon Ton Cendol. I simply didn't understand. Where was the green noodle and the coconut milk? Red coloured syrup in Cendol? Wasn't that ABC (Air Batu Campur or Ais Kacang)??...I didn't like being fussy, so I accepted it anyway.

We took a group pictures before saying bye bye. Each of us walked home with a Samsung Goodies Bag. Thank you Samsung!

What's in the Goodies Bag?

1 x Samsung Water Container

1 x Sunshine Playing Card set

1 x Sunshine Digital Photo Frame key chain (had to sms my team partners to know what is this thingy....It doesn't come with instruction. LOL!)

1 x Samsung pen

1 x Die Hard 4.0 Note Pad.

No...There was NO phone inside the Goodie bag. This demo unit belongs to Lawrence of Samsung. All of us have a chance to win it next week. It is gonna be my first Samsung phone if I win it. :)....(Insert excited squeal here!).

Mizuno Wave Run 2008

What? Mizuno Wave Run 2008

Where? Padang Merbok, KL

When? Sunday. 19 October 2008. 7:30am.

How Long? 10km

A beautiful morning in Kuala Lumpur.

I was quite worried about my run as I have not been active in running for the past few months. Blame it on laziness and my new hobby. :) Anyway, I signed up for Mizuno Wave Run because I have been running this since its debut in the local run calendar since 2005. No major complaints from the previous run. In fact, the previous three runs were rather enjoyable, with hearty breakfasts thrown in after the runs.

This year they introduced timing chip system. An upgrade! I was initially quite impressed....but the chip system was a total let down at the end of the run. Do read on to find out why.

The route was the reverse of previous years' route. This offered a refreshing change but it was still hilly as hey! LOL!

Blast off!

I love this year's blue vest. Stylish and practical.

What a lovely morning to run. I bumped into many friends along the way.

Flow like a river....

Double Hills, reversed. Huff! Huff!

Water station....Quite crowded. Volunteers were having a hard time to cope wih the influx of runners.

Check point band. I wonder why PACM did this. Why not install a timing chip mat instead since we were all wearing the timing chips?

BTW That's Mr. Jeffrey flashing a smile as I grab the purple check point band from him. We ran the Ocean to Ocean race a couple of years ago in Songkhla. Nice to see you Jeffrey!

Aiyo! Two more km to go....No mood to take pictures already...LOL!

Approaching the end....Suddenly, I was puzzled when I was directed to this queue that snaked 200 meters to the finish line.

I have never encounter such queue at finishing line before. Is Pacesetters going for some sort of Malaysian Book of Records? The longest queue to finish line? Sorry for being harsh here but the standard of PACM organised runs has been very high up till now.

Instead of swaggering to the finish line like I normally do, I had to queue up. Like the queue in Midvalley GSC on a weekend! This sucks, man! And furthermore, it was under the hot sun. (Insert expletive of your choice here!)

No medal for me this year because I was so freaking slow.....LOL! Actually, they limit the medals to the first 500 for Men Open, unlike previous year where all finishers would get a medal each. The slow ones were given shoe bags, instead. My shoe bags are more than my running shoes now. Better than nothing, right?

Among the 4 Mizuno Wave Runs since 2005 that I have participated, this one rank at the bottom. The queue at the finish line really sucks, especially when they already deployed timing chips for the run. Simply unfathomable. Something has gone really wrong somewhere. I hope they improve next year......(Insert sigh here!)

Note: Sadly missed is the inflatable giant Mizuno running shoe (see below). Must have retired like a pair of 3 years old shoes. LOL!

Read about my past year race reports below. Those races were not without their flaws but they were more well organised than this year's race.

New Balance Klang Pacers 12km Run

I didn't plan to go for this event actually. Been lazy...Heheh! I got an SMS a few days earlier from G who offered me a lift to this event. I didn't register but I decided to go for the event anyway and play "photographer". Instead of swaggering to the finish line, I was waiting at the finish line to take their finishing photos.

It was the first time I brought my Fujifilm S100FS to a road race. Still learning to use this new camera. So, comments are welcome.

Note: Should your picture is published here and you would want a hi-res copy, pls drop me a mail. I'll send one to you, free of charge.
