Press Release: Live Great Run excites runners with Superhero themed 3km Buddy Run

SUPERHEROES RUN THE TOWN

KUALA LUMPUR, 2 July 2014 - Great Eastern Life Assurance (Malaysia) Berhad (Great Eastern Life) officially launched Live Great Run 2014 and opened for registration recently at Menara Great Eastern. The run is scheduled to flag off at Menara MATRADE Kuala Lumpur at 7 a.m. on 9 November for the 12km Run, followed by the 3km Buddy Run and 3km Family Run at every 15 minutes interval.

Dato Koh Yaw Hui, Director and Chief Executive Officer of Great Eastern Life shared during the launch, “We want to differentiate our running event from the rest by coming up with interesting categories such as the 3km Buddy Run and the 3km Family Run that will energise our participants. The 3km Buddy Run will see runners buddy up and run in their favourite “Superhero” costumes. We want to infuse the fun element into the run to make the whole event lively and send the message that running can be an enjoyable sport, more so if done together with your loved ones. The other new category, the 3km Family Run was created as an avenue for participants to spend meaningful time with their loved ones during a healthy activity. There are not many organised runs out there that offer both the “Fun” and “Family and Friends” elements in the same run. This is the uniqueness of our run and we believe it will create a memorable experience for each participant.”

Present at the launch were the run’s official sponsors OCBC Bank, Newton, 100 Plus, and True Fitness. Dato Koh launched the event by being the first to sign up for Live Great Run 2014, showing his support for one of the company’s largest event under its Live Great Programme. He was presented with a running bib by two staff dressed in Batman and Supergirl costumes to promote the new 3km Buddy Run, to the enthusiastic cheers from the audience.

“The Live Great Run was designed to inspire Malaysians to lead a healthy lifestyle by being physically and mentally fit, not just for themselves but also for their loved ones. It is the company’s ongoing resolve as a LIFE company, to encourage customers to take ownership of healthy living and supporting them through holistic initiatives such as this,” said Dato Koh.

The Live Great Run 2014 features a 12km distance for avid runners and a more relaxed 3km distance for leisure runners. Besides the 3km Buddy Run and 3km Family Run, there were also two new categories introduced this year; the 12km Men’s Open and Women’s Open (International). Dato Koh said, “We decided to establish the Men’s and Women’s Open international categories to create the distinction between the top male and female Malaysian and international runners and reward them individually for their outstanding performances.”

The Live Great Run 2014 aims to register 6,000 participants for both the 12km and 3km race distances. Registration was opened on 26 June and will end on 30 September 2014. Registration fee is RM40 per person for the individual 12km Run, RM50 per pair for the 3km Buddy Run and RM50 for a minimum of two persons for the 3km Family Run with an incremental RM20 for each additional family member up to a maximum of 8 members in a team.

Kuala Lumpur, 22 July 2014 – Energizer Malaysia is pleased to announce EPIC Homes as its CSR partner of “Light Up the Dark” initiative for this year’s edition of the Energizer Night Race. EPIC Homes is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide sustainable homes for the underprivileged communities. Under the partnership, Energizer Malaysia hopes to raise RM180,000 in funding and lighting support to build up homes for Orang Asli in rural Peninsular Malaysia.

“The Positivenergy created by runners and supporters of Energizer Malaysia enables us to create change that matters. The Energizer Night Race is not only a race to promote healthy lifestyle but to gather and empower runners in making a positive impact to the society that we live in - together we race for a brighter world, “said Mike Foong, Managing Director of Energizer Malaysia and Singapore.

John-Son Oei, CEO of EPIC Homes, “EPIC Homes is honored to be part of the Malaysia’s largest night race and work with a passionate brand like Energizer - its Positivenergy philosophy is truly inspiring and infectious. With Energizer’s generous contributions and quality lighting products, together we literally are brightening lives to ‘Light Up the Dark’, a meaningful initiative that is closely related to what we have been doing for the underprivileged Orang Asli communities”.

To date, Energizer has collected RM100,000 from the participants’ registration fees and contributions made by its wholesalers and partners. The funds would be further raised from Energizer sale proceeds at all AEON & AEON BIG retail stores, GIANT stores, TESCO Stores and MYDIN stores from 1st August until 30th September 2014. For every pack of the Energizer Batteries, Lightings & Specialty products sold, RM 0.20 from the sales will go towards the initiative. It's blue! Probably it is the colour of the ocean. Terry Fox was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma, bone cancer when he was 18. His right leg was amputated 15 cms above the knee.

He decided to run across Canada, from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean raising money that would go towards cancer research. He ran daily for 143 days before being forced to give up the run. He ran on average 40-42 kilometers a day with an artificial leg.

At the start of the run in St. John's Newfoundland, he dipped his leg into the Atlantic, and then took two gallons of ocean water, one gallon he intended to dump into the Pacific at Vancouver Stanley Park when he reached there.

The other gallon he wanted to keep as a souvenir. Terry never reached the Pacific Ocean; he was forced to stop the run on September 1, 1980 in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Find out more about Terry Fox HERE.

The actual date for Terry Fox Run Kuala Lumpur has yet to be announced but we reckon that it will be in Q4.

Press Release: SAUCONY RIDE 7 NAMED “EDITOR’S CHOICE” IN RUNNER’S WORLD 2014 SUMMER SHOE GUIDE

From top Saucony Ride 7 (for women) available in silver/purple/red, berry/vizi/coral and green/citron

Reflecting its continued brand momentum and strong focus on award-winning innovation, global performance running footwear and apparel brand Saucony is proud to announce that the Ride 7, the brand’s newly updated neutral running shoe, has been named “Editor's Choice” in the Runner's World 2014 Summer Shoe Guide (June issue).

The Ride 7, lighter than its predecessor by half an ounce, delivers a redesigned outsole for greater responsiveness, cushioning and durability. In the Runner’s World Summer Shoe Guide, the Ride 7 received the highest marks of the 22 shoes reviewed by the publication’s shoe lab, its wear-testers and editors to capture the prestigious award.

“The Ride 7 made my job as a runner extremely easy!” gushed Cheryl Miller, a wear-tester from East Lansing, Michigan. “The cushioning and arch support was superb for my 80-plus miles per week.”

“Our wear-testers of all abilities echoed those sentiments, giving the shoe top marks for comfort, stability, and traction,” said the Runner’s World review of the shoe.

“That last score may be in part because of a newly designed outsole. The tread pattern and blown rubber—bubbles in the rubber make it softer and lighter—combine to deliver a smooth ride while remaining incredibly durable. Saucony also tweaked the midfoot configuration to deliver a smoother ride by removing a plastic piece from under the arch and filling it in with foam and rubber so the shoe makes complete contact with the ground.

Bottom line: “A soft ride suitable for high-mileage runners,” added the Runner’s World editors.
New Ride Redefines Connection between Runner and Road 2

“Winning the Editor’s Choice Award from Runner’s World is a fantastic accomplishment for the whole Saucony team,” said Pat O'Malley, senior vice president of global product for Saucony. “The new Ride 7 is all about one thing: the runner. This latest Ride retains many of the award-winning performance technologies as its predecessor but with even more runner-inspired refinements, including an even better connection with the road. We fine-tuned the outsole and reengineered the midfoot, providing the smoothest, one-of-a-kind ride that every runner deserves.”

Saucony Ride 7
The new Ride 7 features a reengineered outsole and midfoot configuration: Designers removed the plastic midfoot shank from under the arch and extended the SRC™ (Super Rebound Compound) crashpad into the midfoot to help reduce torque, enhance flexibility and set the foot up for a more fluid transition from heel to toe-off. A new vertical flex groove in the Ride 7’s outsole adds to the shoe’s superior forefoot flexibility.

The midsole of the Ride 7 feature the brand’s exclusive full-length PowerGrid™ technology. This advanced foam recipe is 15% lighter and 30% more durable than traditional EVA, providing the ideal blend of cushioning, responsiveness and propulsion. Further helping to reduce weight is the Ride 7’s IBR+™ outsole, an injection-blown rubber compound that is 33 percent lighter than traditional blown rubber.

Welded overlays in the shoe’s distinctive upper create a seamless feel while a highly breathable open air mesh keeps feet cool and comfortable. A silver reflective synthetic detail at the heel provides visibility in low light conditions.

Saucony’s exclusive ComfortLite Sockliner™, a molded sockliner engineered with premium EVA, is contoured to cradle the heel and support the arch while reducing peak pressures in the forefoot. The collar of the Ride 7 features a RunDry™ lining for superior moisture wicking properties.

The shoe’s 8mm heel-to-toe offset positions the foot during impact in a way that creates a greater range of motion for the Gastrocnemius-Soleus-Achilles tendon system, allowing for a more powerful running stride.

Saucony’s ongoing commitment to award-winning innovation and performance continue to earn significant industry accolades for the brand. In addition to the “Editor’s Choice” Award for the Ride 7, Saucony has been repeatedly recognized by Runner’s World for its exceptionally innovative and industry-leading products, including the most recent awards:

 Peregrine 4: “Editor’s Choice” (Spring Trail Shoe Guide 2014)
 Triumph 11: “Editor’s Choice” - Runner’s World Italy (Winter 2014)
 Omni 12: “Editor’s Choice” (Fall 2013)
 Kinvara 4: “International Best Update” (Fall 2013)

The Saucony Ride 7 retails at RM399 per pair and is now available at selected STADIUM, Studio R and Royal Sporting House store nationwide.
