Press Release: Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore 2014 Revised Race Routes for a Smoother Running Experience

SINGAPORE, 30 OCTOBER 2014 — Participants in the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore (SCMS) 2014 can look forward to a smoother and more enjoyable run this year. The event organiser Spectrum Worldwide unveiled a significant amendment to the route which will reduce congestion at the merging point of various categories.

10km Route

1 At approximately 18km along the Half Marathon route, runners will get off the Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE) via the exit ramp leading to Maxwell Road. They will then make their way through the Central Business District via Robinson Road - Collyer Quay – Anderson Bridge, to finish at the Padang. This revised running route effectively separates the Half Marathon participants (more than 12,000 runners) from the Marathon and 10km runners, thereby significantly reducing the 3km congestion traditionally experienced in previous years.

2 This also enables the Marathon and 10km participants to enjoy a clearer path along the Republic Boulevard - Raffles Ave – Esplanade Drive stretch – until the final 500m, where the runners of all three distance categories will merge just before Anderson Bridge, for their final journey to the finish line.

3 Similar to previous editions, all categories will have wave starts to minimise crowding within the first few kilometres.

21km Route

4 “Feedback from participants has always been very important for us to continuously improve the race experience. Together with the relevant authorities, and with the full support of Sport Singapore and Standard Chartered Bank, we have made these changes to ensure a smoother running experience,” said Chris Robb, Chief Executive Officer, Spectrum Worldwide.

6 “While SCMS accommodates runners of all abilities, a key priority for us is to provide an outstanding experience for our long distance runners. It is this group of runners who will benefit the most from the new route change and we’re very pleased to have found an effective solution,” he added.

7 Marathon participants will also be happy to note that with the revised route, they will have the opportunity to run very close to and take in the magnificent sights around the Sports Hub.

42km Route

8 Registrations remain open for all categories until midnight on 31 October 2014. Late entries will still be accepted after this date but participants will pay a $20 late fee and will not receive a personalised race bib.

Press Release: The 24 Hour Race 2014 - Running to Stop the Traffik (RTST) Kuala Lumpur

150,000 STUDENTS JOIN HANDS TO TAKE ON USD 150 BILLION A YEAR INDUSTRY BY JOINING ‘THE 24 HOUR RACE 2014’

Running to Stop the Traffik (RTST) unites students from leading schools in Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong and Singapore to take a stand against Human Slavery

KUALA LUMPUR – 29 October 2014 – Youth-led anti-slavery organization, Running to Stop the Traffik (RTST) is uniting more than 1000 runners from over 50 schools in Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong and Singapore, through The 24 Hour Race 2014, with the aim of taking a stand against modern-day slavery. This marks Malaysia’s first year supporting the cause and to date, there are more than 150,000 youths engaged in the race and more than HKD 2,500,000 [RM 1,051,705] raised for grassroots charities that disrupt the slavery trade directly.

It is estimated that there are currently more than 21 million men, women and children that are living in slavery, more than any other time in history. These victims can be found in factories, construction sites, within fisheries and at sex venues, generating profits for their owners that exceed US$150 billion annually.

This year, The 24 Hour Race is taking place in Nexus International School in Kuala Lumpur, Lugard Road on The Peak in Hong Kong, and Gardens By The Bay in Singapore. Teams consisting of 7-9 runners will run (in relay format) from 9am on 15 November 2014, to 9am the next day, without a break.

Director of RTST Kuala Lumpur, Kasumi Higewake said, “Our vision is a world free from modern-dayslavery and human trafficking. We are an organization by young people for young people who are fighting for this vision. RTST is a charity driven by the commitment of young people who all have the same vision and aim, to empower others by spreading the values of participation and activism.”

“Human trafficking is a silent issue. It’s happening around us but many of us are not aware of it. Hence this race started to bring students from around the world together to fight against modern day slavery through endurance sports.” Higewake added.

Members of the public are invited to come and support the cause by joining in the fun and games of the carnival available on the grounds of Nexus International School and cheers of encouragement for the teams running as well.

Members of the public can also contribute by checking out the Run For Freedom mobile app, produced by FrogAsia, to raise awareness about Human Trafficking and Modern Day Slavery. FrogAsia will donate RM1 to RTST for everyone who completes the quiz and shares it on social media. The app is available on the Google Play store.

The race is presented by The Executive Centre, Asia’s leading serviced office provider, with the expectation of raising up to HKD 5,000,000 [RM2,103,410] this year. It is also supported by numerous renowned brands, such as Bain Capital, Kingdom Wear, Bud On Creation, SG Interactive, Lafuma, Kappa and Rip Curl, to name a few.

This year, RTST is supporting five beneficiaries, including SUKA Society in Malaysia, Freedom Matters, APLE Cambodia, Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation and HOME Singapore, which performed grassroots prevention and rehabilitation work in Nepal, Northern India, Cambodia and Malaysia. Online donation are accepted through the Just Giving website, https://www.justgiving.com/company/runningtostopthetraffik/.

Prizes will be awarded to the male, female and mixed teams that run the most laps in 24 hours as well as to those who show the greatest team spirit and raise the most funds.

Press Release: Reebok One Challenge 2014

14TH SEPTEMBER 2014, PUTRAJAYA – Wet weather didn’t stop the 3,000 participants of this year’s Reebok One Challenge from making their way through a 20.5-kilometer route, which included 15 obstacles. In fact, it got them even more fired up and raring to go, making the most of the muddy terrain and cooling rain to have more fun than ever.

Co-organised by Twenty First Century Sports and Hooha.Asia, it’s online portal, Perbadanan Putrajaya was once again the event’s venue host, and TV partner, Astro Awani. This year’s race registration was filled up and closed in just 5 days, a testament to the growing number of Asians who are embracing a healthy and active lifestyle who are always looking for ways to challenge themselves.

All 3000 participants, who came from all over Asia, arriving as early as 5.30am to warm up, mingle, and check out the booths from Reebok’s sponsors and partners, which included TIMEX, Air Asia, Optimum Nutrition, Gatorade, CHI Fitness, Fitness Concept, DailyMuscle, Wow Photo Booth, iON Action Camera, KT Tape, Banana Boat, Salonpas, Shucare, Men’s Health, Running Malaysia, Clive, LOWYAT.Net and Facial First.

The race kicked off with the men’s flag off by Ahmad Azuddin Arshad, Principle Assistant Director of Perbadanan Putrajaya, at 6.30am, followed by the women’s by Manish Sapra, General Manager of Reebok Malaysia/RSH at 6.45am.

The first batch of obstacles were a hurdle, Speed Shift tyre challenge, cargo net crawl and monkey bars, where the fighting spirit of the participants began showing through. Many were seen doing their best to complete despite falling over and over again. The penalty for not completing each obstacle? 20 burpees.

An off-road trail made up the next part of the challenge, followed by another hurdle, the Stairway to Heaven, ant hill (which made up a series of fun slides!), gradient run, another trail and a vertical wall, where many came face-to-face with their fear of height.

With the wall conquered, the participants made their way through a 15-kilogram rice bag challenge, slippery mud crawl, an angled wall and finally, a bath tub, which gave everyone’s feet a refreshing cool-off.

The first to finish the race in the Men’s Open category was Nik Fakaruddin Bin Ismail, who came through the finish line at 1 hour and 21 minutes, followed by Jaya Kumar A/L Ramasamy at 1:32, and Azwan Bin Bunjing at 1:33.

In the Women’s Open category, Noor Amelia Binti Musa took the lead with a time of 1:32, followed by Fatin Nabila Mohamed Sam at 2:05 in second place, and Lee Yan Leng at 2:06 in third place. All the participants were given a cut off-time of 4 hours and 30 minutes to complete the race.

The first place winners walked away with RM1,500 in cash and other prizes worth RM3,000 in total, while the 2nd and 3rd place winners took home RM800 and RM500, as well as prizes worth a total RM1,600 and RM1,000 respectively, from the sponsors. All cash and sponsored prizes came up a whopping total of RM64,014.

Plenty of water and medic stations kept everyone well-hydrated and safe, and everyone looked forward to a delicious prize at the end of the race: A generous buffet meal that helped the runners nourish and recover from the morning’s physical challenges.

From Reebok: A big thank you to all it’s sponsors, partners and participants for making the second Reebok One Challenge another runaway success!

What To Expect From Puma Night Run Malaysia Based on the Taipei (Taiwan) Edition

Following successful runs in Seoul and Taiwan, PUMA brings this experience to Malaysia for the first time ever this evening!

Thanks to Puma Malaysia, we have the chance to run the Taipei edition of the Puma Night Run first. Based on our experience in Taipei, here are some of the stuff you might expect from Puma Night Run in Setia Alam Convention Centre later.

Please take note, some of the events depicted here may be different from our local edition but generally you will get to enjoy the similar experience the joy of running and to work hard in completing the night course.

Fusion of fitness together with fun.
What do you get when you bring all 3,000 runners together? Other than sweating it out pounding the tarmac, we get to connect with each other and share our love for running. The fun begins when the sun has set!

Celebrities sighting!
PUMA is not short of celebrity supporters whom are known as friends of PUMA. We are sure you can spot at least one or two donning their running shoes for the run. In Taipei, we bumped into actor Adrian Tan and Ernest Chong.

From Zero to Hero
In conjunction with the inaugural PUMA Night Run in Malaysia, the PUMA Night Cat Club Malaysia is launched where eight personalities led by Coach Ian Cheang undergo a 6-week intensive training focusing on fitness and techniques to complete the PUMA Night Run. Similarly in Taiwan, they also have a bunch of celebrities training together for the Puma Night Run.

Cheers!
The PUMA Night Run practically sums up everything about PUMA. Being brave, determined, confident and joyful defines PUMA. Let's cheer for that! ;)

Fabulous warm up!
Get those muscles stretched and warmed up before the run. Let the Taiwan edition, we expect a great warm up session with great music before we hit the road!

Forever faster
3...2...1...GO!!!!! Go for your personal best. There are prizes for both men and women categories in the PUMA Night Run including PUMA vouchers and Power Bar goodies bag.

Beautiful night scenery
One of the most memorable moments in Puma Night Run Taipei was her beautiful skyline. Nicely lit buildings, a Ferris wheel, magnificent bridges.

We have not run at night in Setia Alam before but it is said to be one of the best locations for the PUMA Night Run this time around due to its beautifully planned and designed infrastructures and environment. This place comes with good security and the roads vary in inclination which leads to a more exciting run.

Well, we will find out soon enough! ;)

Happy runners!
Yeah! Must be the endorphins or happy hormones released during the exercise. We runners, be it from Taiper or Kuala Lumpur are generally happy people. Heheh!

A gorgeous finisher medal
You gotta earn it! The joy of being presented with a piece of metal on a lanyard after you crossed the finish line is indescribable! *Insert excited squeal here*

Photo booth with timing
OK. Honestly, we are not sure if they have it in Malaysia but we think this is kinda cool and we just have to highlight it. Once you scanned your timing chip, your completion time will appear on the photo booth. Now you can relish your finishing moment while your photo being taken. :)

A climatic concert
Enjoy the rest of the night with special performances from various local artistes. We heard DJ Anowl and many more will be performing. We do not have the confirmed list as yet.

A handsome goodies bag!
All runners who have registered for the PUMA Night Run will also receive a race t-shirt, race-bib with timing chip, finishers’ medal, race goodies bag, neck towel, race pouch and PUMA vouchers. There might be some slight differences in term of colours and contents but you will love your loot! Note: Shoes and running shorts are not part of the goodies ya!

A big appetite after the run!
A big guarantee for that! LOL! After the Puma Night Run in Taipei, we explored the world famous night market in search of food, glorious food! We were not disappointed! Similarly here, we can "explore" our 24 hours Mamaks or hawker stalls! Heheh!

Hope you enjoy reading this post! Good luck and all the best for your run tonight! :)
