Purple Sock
My Left Foot
One antibiotic jab on the butt, two days of MC and 5 more bitter pills to swallow later, my left foot is still as swollen like a swine limb. The bruise had spread upwards as if I was wearing a purple sock and the worse thing is purple is not so my colour at all. Haha!
I am able to hobble around. I have been living on pizza delivery for this couple of days as I dread to walk 4 flights of stairs down my apartment to get food. I think my waistline will going to swell later on.
The only positive thing that came up from this misfortune is that I get more time to read. I just read the October issue of Runner’s World. The main focus was on 50 best foods for runners. However, I found a short Q&A column very appropriate for my current predicament. (Page 48)
Q: I’m injured and can’t run. How can I keep my sanity?
A: I recommend you practice “opportunity thinking” which focuses on the possibilities that situations hold. This is the opposite of “obstacle thinking” which concentrates on the pitfalls of a challenge.
Look at your injury as an opportunity to rest, enjoy some non-running activities, or learn from a sport-medicine specialist who can help you prevent further injuries. Letting go of the thoughts like “ I don’t feel good about myself unless I am training” should improve your performance in long run. Research suggests that opportunity thinkers perform better than obstacle thinkers.
Well answered? I hope so.
