Makyong or makyung is a traditional form of dance-drama from northern Malaysia , particularly the state of Kelantan. It is an dying artform no thanks to the ban by PAS in Kelantan due to its animist elements and Hindu-Buddhist roots.
This production depicts the anguish felt by a prominent figure in Makyung named Paksu Mat and his wife, Mek Ning whose contributions and sacrifices to the art of Mak Yung are forgotten.
There are no heirs who are willing to carry on with the art including his own sons - Mimi and Azri.
In this monodrama, Rosnan Rahman will be playing all the four characters - Mat Su, Mek Ning, Mimi and Azri ie. he will be biting into the roles of an old man, a pregnant woman, a tranvestite and a guy, all in one show! Interesting eh?
FYI, Rosnan has a role in the movie ...Dalam Botol.
During the press conference at Salasar Pualam, Istana Budaya last Thursday, we were told that the tickets are 70% sold. So, if you wanna catch this monodrama, make sure you get your tickets fast!
