Coundown to SCKLM with iRUN KL, new iPhone app developed specially for Standard Chartered KL Marathon runners

The Standard Chartered KL Marathon has introduced their iRUN KL iPhone application at the ‘Countdown to Race Day’ luncheon last Thursday 2 June. The application, developed by Standard Chartered Bank, will help participants keep updated with the latest Standard Chartered KL Marathon-related news and announcements.

Opening gambit...Let's dance! We kinda like the background song that goes, "Run with us run with us"... Not sure if it is availabe for download. :)

The speech before the feast. Heheh! Very grandeur ballroom I must say.

Breaking last year’s record, the Standard Chartered KL marathon announced today that nearly 22,000 runners have signed up to compete on 26 June. Upon the close of registration at midnight on 31 May, runners registered for in each category exceeded those of last year by nearly 4,000 participants.

Runners representing 78 different nationalities and 35 countries worldwide will join the nearly 19,000 Malaysian runners from across the country on race day in the city of Kuala Lumpur. Interestingly, the male to female ratio remains exactly the same as last year, with 38 per cent female and 62 per cent male participants. The full marathon category achieved a nearly 32 percent growth in participants totaling 2,437 runners in comparison to last year’s 1,855.

“From a humble beginning in 2009, the Standard Chartered KL Marathon has now evolved into an iconic event attracting top runners from throughout the region and country to compete for the largest prize in Malaysia. On behalf of the entire organising committee I’m thrilled to welcome the nearly 22,000 runners to Dataran Merdeka on 26 June,” said Rainer Biemans, Project Director, Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2011.

“Each year, the Standard Chartered KL Marathon is growing by leaps and bounds and we are very proud to introduce the ‘iRUN KL’ iPhone application for the race – a first in a Standard Chartered-sponsored Marathon. We hope that this application will help participants stay connected the latest on the Standard Chartered KL Marathon as they gear up for one of the biggest marathons in Kuala Lumpur,” says Osman Morad, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad.

If you are a runner with an iPhone, you MUST download this application!

As a start for the first year, the application includes a countdown to the race day, push notifications with the latest news and announcements from the organisers as well as training tips.

An essential Race Day guide is offered giving runners insider information on everything from start times to race routes.

Registered runners can log-in and access their ‘Me’ tab which provides a personal barcode for Race Entry Pack collection, their registration status, along with results from the race.

The ‘Racepack’ tab in the application will keep runners updated on where to collect their packs, essential items to bring on race pack collection day as well as Facebook and Twitter updates.

You can use iRunKL to check the current waiting times for all categories during the racekit collection.

Your personal result will be at your finger-tip after the race. Cool, eh?

Additionally, the application serves as a platform for added features in future marathons.

The SCKLM 2011 is brought to you by these people....The organisers & sponsors.
