Yesterday marked the end of Juvana TV Series on TV3. To celebrate the finale, I thought I would share some never seen before photos during the drama launch mid April this year. The launch took place in the high security juvenile prison, Henry Gurney School in Melaka. It is a pretty odd but highly appropriate place to have the launch of the drama since the series is all about young boys being punished for their crimes.
FYI, the Henry Gurney School is the largest juvenile reform school in the country, with some 300 inmates.
This series started 25 April 2011, every Monday 9.00pm and had garnered millions of viewers. We were told the final episode reached 4.2 million viewership! An impressive figure, we must say!
Before entering the compound of the school, we had to keep our wallets, mobile phones, cigarettes in the lockers these item are not permitted to be brought in. But since we were part of the media, we were allowed to bring in our cameras, with a condition - we were not allowed to snap pics of the students.
The launch took place in the Parameswara Hall. We were seated in front of the students in a packed hall.
After speeches and all, a short skit from the drama was acted out by the cast.
Izreen Azminda played a counsellor to the students.
Uprising actor, Zahiril Adzim played Daim the lead character in the show. He was accused of killing his mother and her boyfriend.
Drama Band singing the theme song from the drama and also a cover of Stacie's Jahat! How appropriate. Jahat..heheh!
JUVANA is produced by Filmscape with collaboration by producer Kabir Bhatia, director Faisal Ishak and script writer Alfie Palermo.
It starred fantastic actors like Bront Palarea, winner of best actor in the Anugerah Skrin 2010; Zahiril Adzim, Izreen Azminda, Irfan Roslan, Beto Khusairy, Kuswadinata, Hariry with new faces like Johan Ariff, Syazwan Zulkifly, Wan Atiqa Farhana, Adam Shah, Khairul Mohamed, Syukri Yahaya, Riki Rikando, Idzham Ismail, Helmi and Talha Harith.
There was even a motivational talk...
It was an eye-opening visit for me to the infamous school.
After the launched, we were treated to ikan bakar at Muara Sungai Duyung. Thanks TV3!
