News: Roasters Chicken Run 2012 For An EGG-Cellent Cause!

~ Quirky egg-balancing fun run raises more than RM 58,000 for kids nutrition and tuition ~

Kuala Lumpur, 9 July 2012 – More than 2,900 runners of all ages took to the trail around Desa Water Park for a good cause at the 8th ROASTERS Chicken Run yesterday. Balancing an egg on a cone each, runners had to ensure that the egg remained intact when they completed the designated route of 4.8km (adult and junior categories) or 2.8km (kids aged from 7 to 12 years). Raising a total of RM 58,000 this year, the amount of funds raised greatly depended on the number of participants. For every applicant of the ROASTERS Chicken Run, KRR pledged RM20.

“The ROASTERS Chicken Run has a fantastic and successful track record. This year is the 8th time which Kenny Rogers ROASTERS have worked together with the community to improve the quality of lives to those in need. We owe much thanks to our supporters, the runners and partners who have made this event a success. It gives me great pleasure to announce that the funds raised from the ROASTERS Chicken Run 2012 will benefit the Little Yellow Flower foundation of Malaysia,” said Dato’ Francis Lee, Executive Director of Berjaya Roasters (M) Sdn Bhd who was present to officially flag off the charity event..

The Little Yellow Flower (previously, Hope Education Foundation) was founded in 2007 by international artistes, Valen Hsu, Gigi Leung, Charlie Yeung and Malaysia’s very own, Lee Sinje. The vision of this charity is to provide under privileged children with the opportunity of a better future through love, happiness, good nutrition and a better education.

Funds from the ROASTERS Chicken Run 2012 will go to the Nutrition, Lunch and Tuition programme, targeted to benefit urban families which are living in poverty. Impoverished families living in urban areas still exist in Malaysia, many of which do not earn enough to support a wholesome diet for the children.

At KRR, they have a strong company value of wanting you to be healthy. The Nutrition Lunch and Tuition programme works in line with KRR’s values towards healthier lifestyles through wholesome eating and balanced diets. KRR will work with the Little Yellow Flower foundation in providing children with the opportunity to escape the poverty cycle by providing them with wholesome meals at least once a day and extra tuition lessons and to improve their education and future prospects.

KRR will also be providing more reading materials and books to the “Reading Wonderland” programme under the Little Yellow Flower Foundation. The Reading Wonderland is essentially a community library and information resource for underprivileged children to develop a love for reading and self enrichment.

In previous years, the ROASTERS Chicken Run has successfully raised more than RM365,000 for a variety of charitable organizations and homes such as Tabung Kebajikan Pesakit HUKM, Pediatric Unit HUKM (Oncology), Unit TUTUR – Aural Rehabilitation Centre for Hearing Impaired Children together with Yayasan Budi Peyayang Malaysia and House of Joy and Faith, Yayasan Sunbeams Home, Rumah Juara, Rumah Kanak-kanak Tengku Budriah, Rumah Sayangan, Malaysian National Kidney Foundation – Dialysis Treatment for the Young, Rumah Hope, Rumah Kebajikan Anbu Illam, Rumah Charis Ti-Ratana Welfare Society, and Tabung Kebajikan Pesakit PPUKM – Young Diabetic Patients.

The ROASTERS Chicken Run 2012 was made possible with the support of co-organiser, Desa Water Park, and supporting partners BCard, Berjaya Hotels & Resorts, Berjaya Air, High 5, H-Two-O, Milo, Nature Valley, Sport Toto Fitness Centre, Unilever Food Solutions & Yeo’s.

The ROASTERS Chicken Run is one of the many initiatives in the Kenny Rogers ROASTERS Community Chest Campaign, created in 2005 in aid of the less fortunate. For more information, call 03-2119 9888 or visit www.krr.com.my
