“Since we first opened the walk for the public in 2010 the response has been very positive,” said Puan Rosniza Baharum, General Manager of Group Corporate Communications, in Kuala Lumpur today.

“Our very first walk in 2008 managed to gather 1,000 employees from KFC and Pizza Hut along with their families and in 2009 we had more than 2,000 taking part, but again it was an in-house affair”.

“However when we opened the walk to the public the numbers raised tremendously to 7,000 in 2010 and 10,000 last year. For 2012, we are again expecting more than 10,000 participants, especially members of the public who have now made this walk their yearly outing with family and friends.”

The registration fee for members of the public wanting to join the walk is RM25 and each participant will receive a sporty limited edition microfiber “Be The Movement” t-shirt to wear during the walk, a certificate of participation, a meal coupon, and a goodie bag. T-shirt collection is done on the day of the event from 1.00 pm to 4:30 pm.

They can register from now till 30 September 2012 when registration closes, at four designated KFC and six Pizza Hut outlets in Klang Valley or through the Federal Territory Amateur Athletic Association (F.T.A.A.A.) Office, Twenty First Century Sports (M) Sdn Bhd or by logging on to www.hooha.asia

The four KFC outlets handling registrations are those at Sungei Wang Plaza, KL Sentral, KLCC, and Mid Valley Megamall.

The six Pizza Hut outlets are those at Alamanda Putrajaya, Sunway Pyramid, Subang Parade, IOI Mall Puchong, One Utama and Kajang.

“The objective of the charity walk is to raise money for WHR and to create greater public awareness of the current situation that many parts of the world are facing. There are famine stricken nations that face a constant struggle to provide enough food for the people and put an end to starvation,” she said.

As part of its fundraising this year, KFC is also having a World Hunger Meal promotion, Pizza Hut a Hut’s Power Meal promotion and PHD a World Hunger Speedy Combos and Double Deals promotion.

All meals sold under these promotions are being charged an extra 50 sen for KFC and 60 sen Pizza Hut and PHD with all money collected going to the fund.

Between 2007, when KFC and Pizza Hut Malaysia first got involved in WHR fundraising, till last year, they have raised a total of RM6.43 million.

The donation collected was distributed to WFP to be spent on hunger relief work in third-world, underdeveloped countries and also to various local charities in Malaysia.
