Press Release: Be The Movement” World Hunger Relief Charity Walk 2013
AN INVITATION FOR MALAYSIANS TO HELP IN ENDING WORLD HUNGER
KUALA LUMPUR, 5 September 2013 – KFC and Pizza Hut Malaysia are extending their invitation to all Malaysians to join them in their yearly initiative to help end world hunger. The Global World Hunger Relief (WHR) campaign under Yum! Brands, Inc., with Malaysia’s local initiative entitled “Step Out, Stop Hunger”, will not only create public awareness, but also generate funds which will be disseminated to those in need.
Aside from generating funds through sales of its WHR meals, KFC and Pizza Hut Malaysia will also be organizing a “Be The Movement” charity walk with all tickets sales going to the fund collection. At the same time, a photo story contest via its WHRMalaysia Facebook page will give opportunities for the caring public to submit an image that pinpoints poverty and hunger in our country, with a view to providing assistance to alleviate the poverty and hunger concerned. The best images submitted will win great prizes, while the person/family captured in the photo will receive help from the donations collected through the WHR funds.
“As we go on our daily lives eating complete and healthy meals three times a day, we ought to stop and remember that there are others out there struggling to get even a bite of food just to keep alive”.
“For that reason, we at KFC and Pizza Hut Malaysia are determined and committed to help eradicate hunger issues,” said Datuk Ahmad Zaki Zahid, Managing Director, QSR Brands (M) Holdings Sdn Bhd (operator of KFC and Pizza Hut), in an announcement on the WHR campaign today”.

“This is the first time that we are getting public participation via social media, to highlight to us those who really need our help. Through this simple contest, we hope that the public would be more aware of their surroundings and play an active role to tackle poverty and hunger.
“As for the charity walk, this is going to be our sixth year organizing the event and we are targeting to get 14,000 participants, if not more,” Ahmad Zaki said.
The walk will cover a route that will begin and end in front of Dataran Putrajaya, Presint 3 and will be launched by DYMM Raja Zarith Sofiah Binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah, consort of the Sultan of Johor.
Local celebrities and entertainers including Anuar Zain, Hafiz AF7, Najwa Latif, Sleeq, and Black (Mentor) have also pledged their support to the campaign through entertaining the public and participants at a mini concert on the event day which will be held starting from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm.

The registration fee for members of the public wishing to join the walk is RM25.00 and each participant will get a sporty limited edition microfiber “Be The Movement” t-shirt to wear during the walk, a certificate of participation, a meal coupon, and a goodie bag. They can register from now till 3 October 2013.

“The walk is to raise money for WHR and to create greater public awareness of the current situation in many underdeveloped nations facing a constant struggle to provide enough food for their people and put an end to famine and starvation,” Ahmad Zaki added.
Since its inception in 2007 and up till last year, KFC and Pizza Hut have raised a total of RM8.6 million in this charity effort.
The funds collected were distributed to United Nations WFP to be spent on hunger relief work in third-world, underdeveloped countries and also to various local charities in Malaysia.
