Terry Fox Run Celebrates its 33rd Anniversary

KUALA LUMPUR, 1 November 2013 – One of Malaysia’s most anticipated and established events, the Terry Fox Run returns this year for its 33rd anniversary to mark the fight against cancer and will see people from all walks of life rally around the twin causes of cancer prevention and awareness.

This year’s run will be held at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, 1st December at 8.00am. Participation is free; however donations through the purchase of Terry Fox Run T-shirts are encouraged with proceeds going to this year’s run beneficiary, Cancer Research Initiatives Foundation (CARIF) to be utilized for cancer research. The T-shirts are priced at RM 30 and are available in different sizes for both children – 2, 4 and 3XS – and adults – 2XS, XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL and 3XL from 13th November whilst stock lasts at these following places:

The Terry Fox Run is the largest single day fundraiser for cancer research in the world and is celebrated in honour of Terry Fox, a young Canadian and cancer patient who began the ‘Marathon of Hope’ – his inspiring journey to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. With one leg amputated, Terry Fox became a national hero running for 143 days, completing 5,373 km before he passed in 1981.

The Terry Fox Foundation was established that year to continue his legacy by hosting a run the same time every year. Since then, the Terry Fox Run has been held in over 50 countries throughout the world and has raised more than RM 1.3 billion in aid of finding a cure for cancer through the Terry Fox Foundation.

To date, the Terry Fox Run has raised more than RM 1 million for cancer research in Malaysia since its first run in 2001. Last year, the event attracted more than 6000 participants and raised over RM 239,000.
