Press Release: Reebok One Challenge 2014

14TH SEPTEMBER 2014, PUTRAJAYA – Wet weather didn’t stop the 3,000 participants of this year’s Reebok One Challenge from making their way through a 20.5-kilometer route, which included 15 obstacles. In fact, it got them even more fired up and raring to go, making the most of the muddy terrain and cooling rain to have more fun than ever.

Co-organised by Twenty First Century Sports and Hooha.Asia, it’s online portal, Perbadanan Putrajaya was once again the event’s venue host, and TV partner, Astro Awani. This year’s race registration was filled up and closed in just 5 days, a testament to the growing number of Asians who are embracing a healthy and active lifestyle who are always looking for ways to challenge themselves.

All 3000 participants, who came from all over Asia, arriving as early as 5.30am to warm up, mingle, and check out the booths from Reebok’s sponsors and partners, which included TIMEX, Air Asia, Optimum Nutrition, Gatorade, CHI Fitness, Fitness Concept, DailyMuscle, Wow Photo Booth, iON Action Camera, KT Tape, Banana Boat, Salonpas, Shucare, Men’s Health, Running Malaysia, Clive, LOWYAT.Net and Facial First.

The race kicked off with the men’s flag off by Ahmad Azuddin Arshad, Principle Assistant Director of Perbadanan Putrajaya, at 6.30am, followed by the women’s by Manish Sapra, General Manager of Reebok Malaysia/RSH at 6.45am.

The first batch of obstacles were a hurdle, Speed Shift tyre challenge, cargo net crawl and monkey bars, where the fighting spirit of the participants began showing through. Many were seen doing their best to complete despite falling over and over again. The penalty for not completing each obstacle? 20 burpees.

An off-road trail made up the next part of the challenge, followed by another hurdle, the Stairway to Heaven, ant hill (which made up a series of fun slides!), gradient run, another trail and a vertical wall, where many came face-to-face with their fear of height.

With the wall conquered, the participants made their way through a 15-kilogram rice bag challenge, slippery mud crawl, an angled wall and finally, a bath tub, which gave everyone’s feet a refreshing cool-off.

The first to finish the race in the Men’s Open category was Nik Fakaruddin Bin Ismail, who came through the finish line at 1 hour and 21 minutes, followed by Jaya Kumar A/L Ramasamy at 1:32, and Azwan Bin Bunjing at 1:33.

In the Women’s Open category, Noor Amelia Binti Musa took the lead with a time of 1:32, followed by Fatin Nabila Mohamed Sam at 2:05 in second place, and Lee Yan Leng at 2:06 in third place. All the participants were given a cut off-time of 4 hours and 30 minutes to complete the race.

The first place winners walked away with RM1,500 in cash and other prizes worth RM3,000 in total, while the 2nd and 3rd place winners took home RM800 and RM500, as well as prizes worth a total RM1,600 and RM1,000 respectively, from the sponsors. All cash and sponsored prizes came up a whopping total of RM64,014.

Plenty of water and medic stations kept everyone well-hydrated and safe, and everyone looked forward to a delicious prize at the end of the race: A generous buffet meal that helped the runners nourish and recover from the morning’s physical challenges.

From Reebok: A big thank you to all it’s sponsors, partners and participants for making the second Reebok One Challenge another runaway success!
