Media Release: ‘Save Our Rainforest 2015’ – Leaving Green Steps in Darul Ridzuan

Kuala Lumpur – 28 January 2015 – Pertubuhan Pelindung Khazanah Alam (PEKA), a prominent Malaysian rainforest conservation advocate, held the launch for its third “Save Our Rainforest Race” (SORR) 2015 today at Saloma Theatre Restaurant Kuala Lumpur.

The SORR launch witnessed celebrities and icons from various background in the likes of Dato’ Tom Abang Saufi & Iman Lough (Fashion Icons), Amy Search & Nabila Huda (Singer & Actor) Keith Foo (Actor), Hatta Dolmat (Fashion Designer), Amanda Imani (Singer), Imelda Harris (Celebrity Chef), Ujang (Comic Artist) Kharleez Jaaffar (Cyclist), Thanuja (Former Miss Malaysia 2010) and others, dubbed as Friends of SORR, pledged their participation in this eco event.

Happening on the 28th of March this year at Hutan Lipur Kuala Woh, Tapah, Perak, the “Save Our Rainforest Race” was coined as a symbol to race against time to save our depleting forests.

Previously held at Hutan Simpan Bukit Tinggi, Bentong, Pahang and Hutan Simpan Sg. Besi, Kuala Lumpur in 2013 and 2014 respectively, with over 3,000 participation from public, corporate companies and university students, this third year, SORR is moving north to Perak and is anticipating a bigger crowd.

Encouraged by the success of its two previous events and the recent environmental catastrophe that surged Malaysia, PEKA felt the urgency, more than ever, in spreading the objective of SORR which is to raise awareness on the importance of saving the rainforest to help maintain sustainable environment for the current and future generations.

‘We feel that Malaysian are very supportive in the cause of protecting our environment in a sustainable way, and we, as an environmental NGO feel that we should provide more platforms for Malaysian to seek awareness and amplify their support to showcase our collective voices to the relevant authorities and parties to show our concerns” remarked Puan Sri To’ Puan Datuk Shariffa Sabrina, President of PEKA.

Through the 10km nature walk, checkpoint challenges and tree planting, participants of SORR will have the opportunity to learn and appreciate nature through its enriching activities.

Registration for SORR 2015 is currently open. Interested individuals or groups must form a team of two. Participation fee is RM 80 per person (or 160 per team) which includes race pack, a tree sapling for each team and refreshments for breakfast and lunch. Closing date for registration is 16 March 2015.
