Media Release: The Great Ocean Road Marathon Returns for the 12th Year



AUSTRALIA’S MOST STUNNING MARATHON

Victoria’s iconic Great Ocean Road is home to one of the world’s most visually spectacular marathons, The Great Ocean Road Marathon. With panoramic views of the Southern Ocean, the famous seaside location will attract participants internationally and from across Australia to participate in one of the six events on the 17th and 18th of May.



The marathon travels from Lorne to Apollo Bay along one of Australia’s most breathtaking coastlines, making the event popular with entrants from overseas.

Celebrating its 12th anniversary in 2016, the iconic event provides participants of all fitness levels and ages with a unique opportunity to challenge themselves physically across of range of distances, ranging from 1.5km through to 60km.



For the first year ever, The Great Ocean Road marathon bumps up the running experience by offering the Ultra Marathon, a whopping 60km run. The course has a significant elevation and allows the runner to fully soak in the mountain terrain and the great views of the Great Ocean Road’s various lookout points.



Other courses offered are the 44km Great Ocean Road Marathon, the 23km Half Marathon, the 14km Geelong Advertiser Paradise Run, the 6km Mizuno Run and just for kids, the 1.5km Great Ocean Road Real Estate Kid's Gallop.

Lorne is located just over two hours away from Melbourne city and is easily accessible via a quick drive or public transport. The lush Otway National Park, where Melba Gully is home to the spectacular sight of thousands of glow worms at night, makes Lorne a popular stop for people making the Great Ocean Road drive. Another stop along the race course is Kennett River, famed for the chances to spot Australia’s most loved animal, the furry Koala grazing in the gum trees. Meanwhile, Apollo Bay is a great base to explore the famous 12 Apostles.
