Media Release: Thousands Gathered To Meet Pop Icon Hello Kitty At The Inaugural Hello Kitty Run Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur, 6 March 2016 – The world’s most beloved pop icon Hello Kitty made an appearance at the Perdana Botanical Gardens to meet her fans and flag off the inaugural Hello Kitty Run Malaysia 2016.
The iconic Sanrio character built up the excitement amongst the crowd before the flag off with her air kisses and performing the “Hello Kitty MY wave”. More than three thousand participants dress in Hello Kitty Run race T-shirt were busy snapping photos of Hello Kitty – an exciting opportunity for the up close and personal experience with their favourite pop icon!
Living up to its theme, “Fruity Rush”, the run had decorated checkpoints perfumed with mango, durian and strawberry fragrances. Participants passed through each checkpoint with goodies given out, and fruity fragrances emitted.
Adding on more hype to the run, participants were thrilled with the various activities such as carnival games to join and win prizes, fruit and beverage booths to complement the theme of the run, and the most popular and patronised Hello Kitty merchandise booth that sold limited edition Hello Kitty Run Malaysia products.
Daniel Ng, Director of PinkApple (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and the organiser of the Hello Kitty Run Malaysia 2016 said the run aimed to gather people of all ages to join in for a wholesome fun-filled time with their friends, families and loved ones.
“We are encouraged by the positive response from the participants at the run today. The concept of this fun run was inspired by Hello Kitty that was created more than 40 years ago. This legendary icon has flourished into a global phenomenon that is universally loved and this is the whole idea to bring everyone together – forging friendships and life-long connections across the world,” Ng said.
The Hello Kitty Run in South East Asia was first introduced into Singapore in 2014. In its second consecutive year, the latest edition of run was held at Marina Bay, Singapore and recorded a race participation of 11,000 runners.
