Media Release: MERCY Malaysia Celebrates the Superhero Spirit in Everyone at its Third Charity Run
Kuala Lumpur, 24 July 2016: Over 1,622 participants took part in the third annual #myMERCYrun International Humanitarian Run today, which is jointly organised by MERCY Malaysia and Go International Group. Themed ‘Run Like A Superhero’, this year’s charity run celebrates the deeds of everyday heroes in society who are willing to help one another in times of need, similar to what can be seen in MERCY Malaysia’s humanitarian work.
The charity run aims to raise awareness for the local and international humanitarian efforts of MERCY Malaysia, a non-profit humanitarian organisation. The event successfully raised RM 113,000 whereby all proceeds will be channelled to MERCY Malaysia’s General Humanitarian Fund, which supports efforts in providing aid to affected communities in crisis and non-crisis situations, both locally and internationally.
MERCY Malaysia’s President, Dato’ Dr Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus and Honorary Secretary, YM Datin Raja Riza Shazmin Badrul Shah flagged off the #myMERCYrun, which was held at Padang Merbok. The run provided an avenue for Malaysians of all ages to gather and have fun while taking part in the 3km, 7km and 15km run in their superhero costumes.
“We are delighted to see so many participants enjoying themselves at the run this year together with their family and friends, and we are moved by their enthusiasm in supporting our cause. Their contribution has enabled us to continue fulfilling our mission to provide medical relief, sustainable health-related development and building resilience in vulnerable communities,” said YM Datin Raja Riza Shazmin Badrul Shah.
“Disasters and crises are continuously making headlines across the world, and more communities are in great need of humanitarian aid. At MERCY Malaysia, we believe that it is important that we unite to provide a helping hand to the affected individuals and families both locally and abroad. The #myMERCYrun allows us to create greater awareness on a cause that is close to our hearts, and we are grateful to all our partners and supporters who have played an invaluable part in our relief efforts,” said Dato’ Dr Ahmad Faizal Perdaus.
Adding to the excitement of the run were the “Selfie” and “We-fie” contests which had runners taking photos at several checkpoints along the race route and uploading them online to share their enjoyable experience at the run.
The #myMERCYrun ‘Run Like A Superhero’ participants who completed the race were awarded with a finisher’s medal and goodies bag each. Additionally, two individuals with the most creative and unique superhero costumes were also awarded with prizes from the sponsors.
At the event, guests were treated to special performances by local artists Altimet, Ady Suwardy, and Fhara Mohd. A few lucky participants also walked away with exciting prizes from the lucky draw contests that were held throughout the event.
