Celebrunner: Owen Yap @ Anugerah Seri Angkasa 2010 Launch

Yes! That's emcee, TV host, 8TV news anchor Owen Yap in the traditional Sarawak Warrior costume. But where is the loin cloth? Heheh!

We caught Owen Yap at the launch of Anugerah Seri Angkasa (ASA) 2010 at Royal Chulan Hotel this morning. ASA 2010 is an award event to recognise the best in Malaysian broadcasting industry.

ASA used to be an RTM only affair but the upcoming ASA 2010 marks the collaboration from Media Prima Berhad and ASTRO. The organiser for this event is the Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture.

A total of 3 awards will be given out including three special awards - Special Award for TV, Special Award for Radio and Tokoh Seri Angkasa. Winners will received the ASA trophy and a certificate each, while the recepients of the Best Drama and Best Director awards will each win a trip to Los Angeles.

The theme for ASA 2010 is Dunia Penyiaran: Citra Budaya Malaysia (Broadcasting World: A Reflection of Malaysian Culture).

In line with the theme, they get some of the local Radio and TV personalities to parade around the Royal Chulan Hotel courtyard dressed in traditional costumes.

Check it out....

Francissca Peters did what she does best at the launch - performing a updated version of Ku Ke Udara Lagi and a special song written by Fan and her sister for World Vision Organisation called "Tomorrow". Very nice, Fran! Love it!

The awards event will be held over two days, 18 Feb 2011 (recorded) while the second night on 19 Feb 2011 will be aired live from PWTC on RTM1, TV9 and Astro Prima at 8:30pm.

Celebrunner: Alvin Wong @ "Sini Ada Hantu" Premiere

Hahah! I love the scared expression on Alvin's face. Very apt for a movie called Sini Ada Hantu (Here Got Ghosts).

Alvin Wong is the lead for the horror comedy Sini Ada Hantu (SAH) along with Baki Zainal. We caught him after the premiere of SAH at GSC Mid Valley on 25 Jan 2011.

Sini Ada Hantu is the story of two drivers, Ah Meng (Alvin Wong) and Bakri (Baki Zainal) who find themselves dealing with more horror than they can handle when they take on a last minute, late night job: to deliver their boss's late grandfather's body encased in an old Chinese style coffin to a small village outside town for the latter's burial.

To pass time and to stay awake, Baki and Ah Meng decided to tell each other ghost stories. Their so-called true stories are fleshed out in three independent short stories in the film. The ghost stories become their reality when their van breaks down in the middle of nowhere and they encounter their own ghost!

SAH script writer/ director James Lee (Histeria) and Astro Shaw Producer, Gayatri Sulin Pillai.

Alvin Wong and some of the actors from SAH.

SAH features an ensemble of up and coming young actors, including Alvin Wong and Baki Zainal, as well as special appearances from established actors such as Mano Maniam, Patrick Teoh, Fasha Sandha, Kuswadinata, Ramasundran, Kazar Saisi among others.

Fasha Sandha is stunning as the Hantu Pokok Pisang. She didn't attend the premiere though. And yes.....It is her under all those ghastly make-up when the beautiful spirit turns into a monster!

My favorite among the three short stories is the one involving the haunted hostel where ghosts of Japanese Army roam. Heheh! Scary sh*t here! Re: toilet humour. LOL!

The ghosts featured in the movies are not new, we could have heard it from friends, relatives or from someone they know. In fact, I used to be spooked by all these ghostly tales about Hantu Pokok Pisang, Hantu Ekor and Hantu Jepun when I was small. But nonetheless, the movie is still scary....yet funny. Thanks to the comedic timing of actors and the twist at the end.

Highly spook-licious!

Check out the trailer for Sini Ada Hantu below!

ENJOY!

Sini Ada Hantu is spooking cinemas nationwide starting 10 Feb 2011. Go catch it!

Cancer victims support group Pink Ribbons Deeds (PRIDE) Foundation and Coronade Hotel Kuala Lumpur launched a year-long "We Care With Pride" fundraising programme on 25 January 2011 at the hotel.

We were treated with a belly dance by members of the Middle Eastern Dance Academy led by president Nancy Bakshy as the opening gambit.

During the launch, Coronade Hotel started the donation ball rolling by presenting a cheque of RM2,000 to PRIDE Foundation.

Hotel guests will be presented with a pink ribbon and a muffin when they donate at least RM10 and light up a "Tree of Hope" at the hotel's lobby which symbolises the hopes of breast cancer patients.

There was also a muffin making demonstration by the chefs of Coronade Hotel for the media and guests at the launch.

Orange Muffins, baked with Pride. :)

Present at the launch were PRIDE Foundation adviser Nasirah Aris (blue dress) and Coronade Hotel general manager Sazrul Fadzil.

Nasirah said the funds raised would be used for its various activities to help breast cancer patients by PRIDE Foundation.

Also present was PRIDE Foundation volunteer Ranbir Kaur, a breast cancer survivor since 2000.

She openly shared her ordeal fighting breast cancer and stressed the importance of early detection which can be done by regular self-inspection by all women and men. Yeah...Men do get breast cancer too!

The hotel will also begin to educate the guests and clients on breast cancer awareness by distributing materials and literatures provided by PRIDE Foundation.

Celebrunner: Jack Neo/ Karen Neo @ 笑着回家 "Homecoming" Movie Meet The Fans Session

That's Karen Neo, running very late for her CNY reunion dinner! LOL!

Actually, we caught up with "her" at a meet the fan session at Berjaya Times Square to promote the movie "Homecoming".

For a strange reason, her pearl necklace came off when she was posing for my camera! Luckily is just the necklace not her bra. LOL!

Well, Karen Neo is actually actor/ director, Jack Neo in drag for the third time in his acting career. He is famous for his potrayal of a granny Liang Po Po.

Now, he plays Karen Neo, accident-prone but well-meaning mother of Ah Niu who is caught in the mad dash of homecoming or "balik kampung" journey from Singapore to Malaysia.

Jack Neo under those heavy make-up, wigs and pantyhoes make a pretty believable middle-aged "auntie".

Directed by director-writer Lee Thean-Jeen, Homecoming boasts a Singaporean-Malaysian cast of filmmaker/actor Jack Neo, Mark Lee, Jacelyn Tay, Malaysian comedian Afdlin Shauki, singer Ah Niu and child star Koe Yeet.

Homecoming has three intertwined stories: a demanding chef who cannot wield the same control over his teenage daughter, a mother-and-son pair who embark on a comedy-of-errors sort of road trip across the Causeway to make it in time for the yearly reunion dinner, and a yuppie couple who have to choose between a free vacation to Bali and New Year’s Eve with their family.

Koe Yeet.

She plays Mindy, the lonely neglected child of Chef Daniel. Mindy decides to travel alone of CNY eve from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur to be with her mother. In the bus she meets with Karen Neo and son. Some hilarious and and heartwarming moments entail.

Mark Lee plays Chef Daniel, an over-achieving chef who bosses everyone around except his own daughter. I find his brand of Mandarin-Cantonese way of talking super hilarious! LOL!

Homecoming is a surprisingly entertaining watch, an effective combination of comedy and family drama.

I have watched Homecoming last week and I was surprised that my friend, Akmal has a small role in the movie - playing the ticketing officer at the airport! Well done, Akmal!

Homecoming is playing at the cinemas nationwide right now. Just perfect for the festive season!

There was an autograph signing session after some games activity on stage. The Homecoming posters and angpow sleeves were distributed free. So, if you got the time, please head over to Sunway Pyramid where they will be appearing again at 7pm today! (29 Jan 2011)

Check out the hilarious trailer below. There are more ROTFLOL moments in the movie. Go watch it!

ENJOY!

HOMECOMING” is jointly-produced by: Homerun Asia, Double Vision, J Team Productions, SIMF Management and Tanshern.
