Uncle Roger's Fried Rice: FUIYOH! or HAIYA?

If you're a fan of Uncle Roger, the iconic comedic persona created by Nigel Ng, then a visit to his restaurant, "FUIYOH! It's Uncle Roger," is a must. Located in the heart of Pavilion KL, this vibrant eatery offers a delightful culinary experience that stays true to the character's love for authentic Asian flavours.

Ambiance and Decor

The restaurant's decor is a visual feast, with a strong tangerine theme that immediately evokes Uncle Roger's signature style. The playful and comic elements, combined with Asian influences, create a fun and inviting atmosphere that's perfect for both casual dining and snapping Instagram-worthy photos.

Menu Highlights

The menu showcases a selection of fried rice dishes, each infused with umami and the beloved MSG. The classic Egg Fried Rice starts at RM16, offering a straightforward yet flavourful experience. For a more extravagant meal, upgrade your dish with premium toppings like unagi, salmon, prawn and more.

Taste and Quality

The fried rice itself is tasty, with a strong umami flavor (Thanks MSG!) that fans of Uncle Roger will appreciate. Every plate boasts a wonderful 'wok hei,' or breath of the wok, a hallmark of exceptional fried rice. While it leans slightly towards the oily side, this doesn't overshadow the satisfying overall taste. The use of quality ingredients is clearly evident. (Insert thumbs up here!)

Uncle Roger's Egg Fry Rice with Grilled Unagi - The unagi (eel) has a subtle and delicate flavour that is enhanced by the grilling process. The charring adds a smoky depth to the taste, while the eel itself retains its natural sweetness. Oshi desu!

Uncle Roger's Egg Fry Rice with Satay Ayam - The sweetness of the satay sauce complemented the savoury rice.

Kimchi Fried Rice with Smoked Duck Breast - delightful combination that offers a harmonious blend of spicy, tangy, and smoky flavours. The bold and assertive taste of kimchi complements the delicate and rich flavor of smoked duck, creating a truly satisfying meal.

Uncle Roger's Egg Fried Noodles - lacked any depth of flavour and disappointing. Haiyaa! Do not order it! I repeat, do not order this. Get the fried rice instead!

Aunty Helen's Chicken Gyoza - packed with a flavourful filling that was seasoned to perfection.

Fuiyoh Crispy Chicken - with Pineapple Mayo sauce. The combination of sweet pineapple and savoury chicken was a pleasant surprise. It's a flavour profile that is not commonly found in fried chicken dishes, making it a memorable experience.

YSoWeak Mala Popcorn Chicken - Beware the heat! Fiery consequence awaits.

Wok Hei White Corn - Perfection! Smoky grilled corn, topped with some cheesy sauce and seaweed powder. I can't get enough of it!

Price

While the prices are on the higher side, especially for fried rice, they are reasonable given the location and the unique dining experience. A meal here is not just about the food but also about enjoying the quirky and entertaining ambiance that Uncle Roger is known for.

Overall Experience

Dining at Uncle Roger's restaurant is more than just a meal; it's an experience. The playful decor, the MSG-laden dishes, and the chance to immerse yourself in the world of Uncle Roger make it worth a visit. Whether you're a die-hard fan or just curious about the hype, Uncle Roger's Fried Rice is definitely worth trying at least once.
