#irunsoicaneat: A Trip to Sri Lanka on Your Plate - The Lankan, Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur's culinary scene is a melting pot of flavours, but sometimes you crave something a little different. Enter my friend Nana's recent craving for Sri Lankan food. Our hunt led us to The Lankan, and let me tell you, it was a delightful adventure for our taste buds.

The Lankan itself is located in the bustling area in Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur. The restaurant had a warm and inviting atmosphere, with a touch of Sri Lankan decor that hinted at the deliciousness to come.

Stepping into The Lankan, we were greeted by the enticing aroma of spices from the buffet spread. Despite the tempting buffet spread (RM35 per pax), we opted to order a selection of delectable dishes to share.

The menu offered a delightful array of curries, rice dishes, and unique Sri Lankan specialties.

Seafood Lamprais

Our journey began with the Seafood Lamprais. This beautiful all-in-one package held a treasure trove of goodness – fluffy rice, fragrant curries, and a medley of fresh seafood. The curries were a revelation! Each bite was a symphony of spices, with a depth of flavour unlike any Indian curry I'd had before. The seafood was perfectly cooked, adding a delightful textural contrast to the soft rice.

Egg Idiyapam

Next up was the Egg Idiyapam. These delicate string hoppers, made from rice flour, were served with a side of sambal. The combination of textures and flavours was divine – the soft, fluffy hoppers soaking up the vibrant sambal. It was a simple dish, but absolutely delicious.

Prawn Pooriyal

Hurray for the Prawn Pooriyal! This dish boasts tender prawns stir-fried in a rich masala, seasoned with a blend of aromatic spices and herbs. Absolutely finger licking good! Yes, use your fingers to remove the shell from the juicy prawns.

Sri Lankan Iced Milk Tea

To quench our thirst, we ordered the Sri Lankan Iced Milk Tea. This refreshing drink came with a separate syrup, allowing us to adjust the sweetness to our liking. It was the perfect accompaniment to the flavourful curries.

The Lankan offered not only a delicious meal but also a very reasonable price tag. Our feast for three came in at just over RM100, making it an excellent value for the quality and quantity of food.

Would we go back? Absolutely! The Lankan is a fantastic spot to explore the vibrant and flavorful world of Sri Lankan cuisine. With its friendly service, authentic flavours, and reasonable prices, The Lankan is a must-try for any adventurous foodie in Kuala Lumpur.
