Press Release: The BFM-The Intermark Tower Race Raised RM130, 000 for 5 Homes
26 November 2013, Petaling Jaya – The Intermark and BFM89.9 recently made “pit stops” at two checkpoints – Rumah Juara and SHELTER Home – 2 of 5 homes which will receive RM130,000 in total, raised from sponsorships and participants of the upcoming BFM-The Intermark Race to the Top 2013. Others beneficiaries of these proceeds are Rumah Jaireh, Special Children Society of Ampang and Yayasan Chow Kit.
“The sincere purpose of this race was to introduce something completely different to what Malaysia deems a race. A ripple effect of introducing such a race was to organise ‘A Different Race to Make A Difference’. Therefore, we can proudly and honestly state that we have achieved our goals,” said Patrick Liau, Director of The Intermark.
Also present during the home visits were sponsors Wearnes Automotive who surprised the children of one of the homes with Volkswagen miniature toy cars, UM, who wowed both of the homes with their kind contribution of endless boxes of essential provisions which included Milk Powder, Detergent, Salt, Sugar and a range of other personal care items. DTZ provided all of the children with stationery kits,
TAGS presented both of the homes with fun and bright inflatable gym balls and well as child-sized notebooks and pens.
Celebrity Fitness presented the children with a range of healthy snacks, followed by a fun aerobic dance which proved to be very much the highlight of the day. To make things even more enjoyable and to provide relief post-exercise, MyTeksi managed to arrange for The Potong Artisan Pops to give out Malaysian’s all-time favourite, the ice-cream potong to all!
AIA was not able to make it on the day but was able to contribute towels for all of the children. Yakult couldn’t attend either but instead furnished the homes with activity books and bookmarks for all of the children. Last but not least, Jaya Grocers kindly contributed a wide range of delicious biscuits.
“We thought that it would be important to go and see some of the children that we worked hard to generate funds for. This experience has humbled me, as I see their desire for parental affection. The visit also brought home the point that there are some remarkable individuals who are putting their own lives aside to house and care for these unfortunate children. They deserve our full support,” said Malek Ali, Founder and Managing Director of BFM.
“We are very appreciative of all of the support that we receive from the race organisers and sponsors. Managing the many SHELTER homes is not easy, as the expenses are high and we do not have a constant stream of cash from contributors. The responsibilities that we have are endless but we are immensely thankful that the more fortunate ones are ever willing to help us out,” said Cheok Hoong Poh, General Manager of SHELTER Homes.
With approximately 500 participants and taking place on the 7th of December 2013 at 8.00 am, the BFM-The Intermark Race to the Top 2013 will see participants going through a series of fun and challenging activities ala Amazing Race, including a walk hunt at the Intermark Mall and a race to climb up to the 63rd floor on the rooftop of Vista Tower at The Intermark, which has a panoramic view of the Petronas Twin Towers.
Other attractions that this day will bring are a series of out of the ordinary performances which include a Gym Ball and a SUMA demonstration by TAGS, a dance performance by Celebrity Fitness and an exciting grand finale by HANDS Percussion.
Authorised dealer of Volkswagen Malaysia, Wearnes Automotive, is the Platinum Sponsor while Malaysia’s leading insurance company, AIA Berhad, is the Gold Sponsor. Property advisory firm DTZ Nawawi Tie Leung and media specialist UM are the Silver Sponsors, while Milo 3-in-1, news monitoring agency nama and Secure Parking are Bronze Sponsors. Other sponsors include DoubleTree by Hilton, Spritzer, MyTeksi, Celebrity Fitness, TAGS, Elitkraf, Yakult, 100 Plus EDGE, Mondelez International and Health Today.

Press Release: MPIB Run 2014 Counting down to Race Day with Launch of Project “Good Deed Shoes 2014”
Kuala Lumpur, 28 November 2013 - “Please do not throw your still good sports shoes away; do a good deed for the Orang Asli Community.” That’s the appeal message from the Organizer of Multi-Purpose Insurans Run 2014 when they launch Project “Good Deed Shoes 2014” in conjunction with the “30-days Count Down” to Race Day Cocktail event at the Royal Lake Club on Friday, 6th December 2013
Multi-Purpose Insurans Bhd, the Event Owner and Organizer of MPIB Run 2014 would be collecting clean, wearable, pre-loved sports shoes to be donated to the Orang Asli/ Indigenous community of Malaysia. For a start, 2 such communities were identified and they are from Sungai Larah, Ulu Yam and Bukit Tunggul, Dengil, Selangor.
This Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Project came about from regular runners at the My First Run Clinics who shared that they replace their running shoes after clocking 800 to 1,000 km to avoid injuries and most of these shoes are still in good condition. Instead of throwing them, they rather do a good deed by donating them to the Orang Asli community who mostly go bare footed in their daily chores.
Runners are encouraged to drop their pre-loved running shoes or any sports shoes in clean and still good condition at the My First Run Clinic on 21st December 2013 at the Padang Merbuk car park and when they collect their Race Entry Pack from 27th
to 29th December 2013 at the OCM Training Hall, OCM Indoor Sports Centre, Wisma OCM, Jalan Hang Jebat.
Another collection opportunity will be on Race Day on 5th January 2014 i.e. before the Race begins. MPIB Run Event Leader Jayne Liew said “we look forward to Runners joining hands to gather as many pairs of pre-loved shoes for the Orang Asli community so that we can reach out to more than the 2 Communities identified at the moment.”
Back for the 3rd year, MPIB Run, a community run event reached the target 5,000 registrants on 29th October 2013, 32 days before the published closing date of 30th November 2013. MPIB Run is based on the theme “Healthy Lifestyle–Work Life Balance” is for all ages, backgrounds and fitness levels. The Organizing Committee is happy to note that there is an increase in registrants for the competitive categories as compared to the MPIB 2013 Run which reflected an encouraging sign that there is a growing community of runners who have taken up running seriously as part of their keep fit routine.
In preparation for the Run, MPIB has anchored 12 scheduled “My First Run Clinics”, especially for first-time runners. The run clinics cover all adequate information for novice runners and it is held at the Padang Merbuk Car Park, at 7.30am on every Saturday until 21st Dec 2013.
This 3rd run will again be held at the Padang Merbuk with 8 competitive categories i.e. 4 categories each for the 12KM and 8KM and 2 Fun Run categories of 5KM. A 3 KM walk is being planned for the Runners’ family members who wish to join in.

The 30 year-old from Canberra, started in his usual conservative pace and then worked his way through the field.
“The race for me went well. It was good to come out on top and I wasn’t sure how I’d go as I raced last week but it’s good to know that I recovered well,” Bourne said. “I felt really good from the start and I’m just in quite good form at the moment which makes it much easier.”
Piotr Lobodzinski from Poland, got third in 7:06.
As winners of the event, Walsham and Bourne will receive a VWC prize of round-trip airfare to the final in Hong Kong on December 1st, together with tickets and entry to the Empire State Building Run-Up awarded by the organisers.

Diamond Jubilee Run 2013
The Royal Selangor Club (RSC) Hash Section (HHH) is organising the Hash Diamond Jubilee Run to commemorate 75 years of Hashing. The event, which is expected to welcome close to 1,500 hashers from all over the world, will be held from Friday, 6th December to Sunday 8th December 2013. The three-day event will kick start from the very site where Hash Run No. 1 was set in December 1938 - thus allowing Malaysian hashers to indulge in nostalgia and take pride in this international sport, which has its beginnings in Kuala Lumpur.
The term “Hash House Harriers” (HHH) was derived firstly, from the name “Hash House”. Hash was the “fun” name for its then unimaginative food given to the Selangor Club Chambers, a social centre for the British Civil servants and business men who lived in Malaya in the early years between the two world wars. Located in close proximity to the current RSC, it served as the first run site. Runners chasing the paper trail laid by a Hare were called Harriers.
75 years on, there are more than 2200 chapters in 185 countries throughout the 7 continents of the world namely Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Africa, Australia and Antarctica. Hashing is arguably the world’s largest and most popular Sport for All Movement and is recognized as such by the International Olympic Committee.
The RSC HHH is pleased to announce that the Hash Diamond Jubilee Run is supported by Malaysia Major Events (MME), a division of Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), an agency under Malaysia's Ministry of Tourism and Culture. International and local Hashers will also be able to sample “Malaysian Hospitality” at its best and enjoy complimentary tour packages in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014.
Mr. Tony Nagamaiah, General Manager of Malaysia Major Events (MME) said, “Sporting events has become an integral part of Malaysia’s event calendar, with a lasting impact for the country’s health, social and economic values. The Hash Diamond Jubilee Run not only gives the international attendees an experience of Malaysia’s unique culture and traditions, but also highlights the many attractions along the run’s trail. Athletes and runners from different countries come to Malaysia to show their pride of nation, which makes the Hash Diamond Jubilee Run an interesting appeal for embracing sportsmanship and bringing nations together.”
RSC President, Mr Bryan Perera said, “The Royal Selangor Club is proud to present to you the Hash Diamond Jubilee Run. For a club steeped in sporting tradition, hosting this commemorative Run is another feather in our cap. In essence, this is a homecoming event for all hashers.”
He thanked Malaysia Major Events for their endorsement and support of the event. “It is fantastic that you have included the Hash Diamond Jubilee Run in your calendar of events. The event is certainly in line with the promotional campaigns for Visit Malaysia Year 2014. On our part, we will certainly encourage the foreign hashers/ visitors to take the opportunity to stay on after the event and explore the many attractions Malaysia has to offer.”
The Hash Diamond Jubilee Run is a three-day event; with runs held at various sites around the Klang Valley. Each Run culminates in social events, which is synonymous with the spirit of Hashing. The event kicks-off with a Red Dress Charity Run on Friday, December 6, followed by a “Street Party” to welcome all hashers. On the 7th and 8th, various run activities will be held at RSC’s Sports Annexe in Bukit Kiara and Taman Rimba Templar, followed by the Grand Party. For the first time, the RSC Hash is organizing an extra long 25km cross country fun run termed the “Hash Ball Breaker Run” which is a real test of strength and endurance.
Organising a prestigious event, as large as this is not possible without the support of sponsors, such as the Olympic Council of Malaysia and the Malaysian Hash Council for their support and sponsors, Genting Highlands, Guinness Anchor Berhad and Tanjong Golden Village for their sponsorship.

Press Release: TESCO Walk for Life 2013
4000 TESCO WALK FOR LIFE PARTICIPANTS RAISED OVER RM100,000 FOR THE ‘HELPING NEEDY CHILDREN WITH LEUKAEMIA’ FUND
KUALA LUMPUR, November 17, 2013 – Today Malaysians put on their walking shoes in support of raising funds for the underprivileged children who are undergoing leukaemia treatment at the University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). Tesco Malaysia held its sixth annual Walk for Life 2013 today at the scenic University of Malaya Kuala Lumpur campus. Walk for Life is one of Tesco Malaysia’s fundraising efforts aimed to raise RM1 million to help 100 children with leukaemia from underprivileged backgrounds within three years.
Jointly organised by Tesco Malaysia and UMMC, this year’s Walk for Life raised over RM100,000 in cash as well as in kind. In total, the Walk for Life campaign has raised RM600,000 since the launch in August 2012. The funds raised today will help families bear the cost of medication, treatment and hospital travel expenses for young leukaemia patients. The funds to help finance the children’s treatments are disbursed on a quarterly basis to needy children with leukaemia identified by UMMC.
The 5-kilometre fun walk was flagged off by Dato’ Sri Rohani Abdul Karim, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development and Georg Fischer, CEO of Tesco Malaysia.
Along the campus’ scenic walk, participants were also challenged to walk, conquer and collect Clubcard points with the Clubcard Cop!Cop! Day Challenge and race through a series of obstacles including carnival games, limbo rock, a tyre challenge, a maze and ‘Speedy Gonzales’. By participating in the Clubcard Cop!Cop! Day Challenge, Tesco Clubcard members will stand a chance to win up to 1,000,000 Clubcard points (worth RM10,000).
“We are very thankful for the community’s support today because the funds raised from registration of the walk will aid our efforts to help the families with children diagnosed with leukaemia who are in need of financial support. With proper medical care and treatment, the underprivileged children we’ve seen suffering from leukaemia have every chance to lead healthy and normal lives. I am very encouraged to see several young survivors of leukaemia joining us for the walk today. It warms my heart to see their lives turned around and I believe this gives further motivation to other patients who are still undergoing treatment,” said Fischer.
Professor Dr. Hany Ariffin, Senior Consultant Paediatric Oncologist at UMMC said, “Roughly 450 to 500 children are diagnosed with leukaemia every year in Malaysia. The cost of treating leukaemia can be overwhelming for most families. We are thankful for the support we received from Tesco Malaysia through the Walk for Life campaign. Now more needy children are able to undergo and complete treatment. I believe poverty should not rob a child’s chance of achieving cure”.
“With an 85 percent chance of recovery today compared to the approximately 60 percent chance a few years ago, and through the efforts of Tesco Malaysia we hope to change these statistics in the future and bring hope to more children that are diagnosed with the disease,” added Professor Hany.
The walk was also attended by local celebrities such as Vince Chong, Vanessa Chong, Moots from Pop Shuvit, Najwa Latif, Ben Ibrahim, Belinda Chee, Lisa Wong, Nicholas Mak, Rina Omar, Khai and Sahri Sarip from Akademi Fantasia 1, Michelle Lee, Dian Sharlin and the reigning Miss Malaysia Tourism, Thaarah Ganesan. Tesco also pledged to donate RM500 for every celebrity that came to support the cause.
The Walk for Life is made possible with sponsorships from Tesco Malaysia’s partners including The Continuity Company (M) Sdn Bhd and Protect & Gamble Malaysia Sdn Bhd, among others.
From a three-year-old to her 84-year-old grandmother, leukaemia patients, charity homes and students, Walk for Life saw the community coming together to battle childhood leukaemia. An array of performances by Najwa Latif and Batteryheadz Percussions Group also made it a lovely day out for everyone who took part.

Press Release: Rock to Rock Run 2013 - Charity Run with a Rock Factor Raises Fund for a Local School
The Rock to Rock Run organized by Hard Rock Hotel Penang took place for the fourth consecutive time on 27 October 2013. The run was a success as RM65,000 was raised to benefit SJK(C) Permatang Tinggi, Bukit Mertajam and more than 2000 registered runners turned up for the event. The ambience was greatly enhanced with some runners coming in as rockers, superheroes and even cowboys to contend for the best dressed medals. Flagged off at 7 am, the Batu Ferringhi coast was rocked by excited runners.
The run which aimed to benefit the local community was inspired by Hard Rock’s founder, Isaac Tigrett. Living up to his mantra of Take Time to be Kind, Hard Rock Hotel Penang took the opportunity to organize this philanthropic run annually and had to date supported a total of 7 non-profit organizations which focus on children and the disabled such as Rumah Seri Cahaya, Crystal Family Home and Association of Rehab of the Disabled.
This year, SJK(C) Permatang Tinggi, Bukit Mertajam was chosen as a benefactor and the fund raised will be used to upgrade the school in order to provide a more conducive learning environment for its students.
High profile runners spotted at the run include YB Steven Sim, MP of Bukit Mertajam as well as YB Lee Khai Loon, Machang Bubuk’s Assemblyman. Both runners played a role in raising the fund to an additional RM15,000.
Apart from that, kind sponsors such as Penang Butterfly Farm and Delta helped to further raise funds on the day of the event by encouraging the public to donate to free butterflies and a photo booth was set up so that runners could get their shots taken with a donation.
“It was a very happy day for me. I finally, finally got my lovely guitar - the Hard Rock Medal of the Best Dressed category. A really a hard earn medal for me,” said Chung Mei Ling, one of the winners of the best dressed medal who had been supporting the Rock to Rock Run since 2010.
Runners were also treated to a lineup of entertaining post-running activities such as lucky draw and live band performances by a local favourite band, The Jazzhats and Ray as well as Deviate, a 7-piece band that hails from Indonesia. A run like no other, runners let loose to party and dance with the bands on stage. Living up to its tagline “Running in the Name of Rock”, it was a fun-filled run with a noble cause.

Press Release: MILO Flame of Energy Initiative to Support the Malaysian Contingent to 27th SEA Games in Myanmar
MILO® MALAYSIA CONTINUES ITS SUPPORT OF MALAYSIAN CHAMPIONS WITH MILO® FLAME OF ENERGY INITIATIVE
KUALA LUMPUR, 6 NOVEMBER 2013 – MILO® Malaysia today launched its MILO® Flame of Energy initiative, the second phase of its MILO Fuel for Champions campaign which calls on Malaysians to pledge their support for the Malaysian Contingent heading for the 27th SEA Games in Myanmar.
Officially launched by Alois Hofbauer, Region Head of Nestlé Malaysia and Singapore and Dato’ Wira Amiruddin Embi, Chef de Mission of the Malaysia SEA Games Contingent, the MILO® Flame of Energy aims to collect 2.7 million units of energy in the form of “flames” as encouragement for our athletes.
Under the initiative, Malaysians can show their support by spreading the flame to light up the virtual torch on MILO®’s website. With a simple swipe of a finger, they can ignite the Flame of Energy to support the spirit of sports to inspire our athletes as they strive to make Malaysia proud.
Additionally, Malaysians can also show their support by extending their wishes through Twitter, Facebook or Instagram by using the official hashtag - #MILOforMALAYSIA.
Speaking at the launch, Alois Hofbauer said, “SEA Games is a Malaysian athlete’s introduction to the international sporting arena. MILO® recognizes the importance of developing and nurturing young talents from the start and guiding them to success in the sporting landscape”.
“Our athletes’ journey will not be easy and it is important that the athletes receive all the support and encouragement from the nation to fuel their journey, giving them the energy to go further during the 27th SEA Games,” Hofbauer added.
Dato’ Wira Amiruddin Embi, Chef de Mission of the Malaysia SEA Games Contingent further added, “As the 27th SEA Games draw closer, besides receiving intensive training, it is vital that our athletes receive our countrymen’s support.”
“With the nation behind them, I believe that our athletes will be prepared both mentally and physically in their quest to bring honor and glory to Malaysia,” he further added.
