Review: Unboxing and On The Road Test of ASICS Gel-Forte (2E)

This shoe is touted to be ASICS’ newest weapon in the battle against excessive over pronation. It weight around 377g (size 9), about 50g lighter than its predecessor, the Gel Evolution. It looks kinda big and sturdy. The colours remind us of KLCC Twin Towers, hence we brought the pair to the KLCC Park for photo shoot and subsequently for a run. :)

Let’s take a look of technical features that will make it one of the most advanced shoes on the market.

Cushioning System - Visible Rearfoot GEL - The ASICS GEL system is based on a special kind of silicon that enables optimal shock absorption. GEL units are strategically placed in the midsole and designed to enable specific functions and positions.

Rearfoot fit has been improved via the implementation of new PHF inside a Clutch Counter rearfoot fitting system. Additionally a generous amount of support based cushioning gives the GEL Forte an incredibly plush under foot feel.

ASICS running shoes feature a Personal Heel Fit (PHF) made out of memory foam. Soft enough for the heel to be comfortable in the shoe, this spongy material also provides a snug fit as it shapes itself around the contours of your heel every time you put the shoe on.

Biomorphic Fit Upper: Stretch material strategically placed on the upper helps to reduce buckling and potential for irritation

Triple Density Solyte midsole: The full length triple density Solyte midsole features lower density top layer for improved cushioning and comfort

Dynamic DuoMax® - Consists of two different density midsole materials designed to provide smooth overpronation control.

I.G.S - The Impact Guidance System aims to make all shoe components work together effectively to allow the body to perform in a natural manner. Its goal is to compliment, not correct, how the legs and feet move.

Guidance Trusstic - This trusstic system integrates Guidance Line construction for enhanced gait efficiency while providing midfoot structural integrity for a more consistent and directional ride underfoot.

Full-length Guidance Line - Vertical flex groove decouples the tooling along the line of progression for enhanced gait efficiency.

Verdict:
Despite the bulky appearance, this shoe is remarkably lightweight and packed with specific technologies aimed at helping runners with flat feet run in comfort and safety. It delivers a stable, protected and very well cushioned ride at a very reasonable price.

Asic Gel-Forte (2E) retails for RM499 per pair at Asics Concept Stores

Press Release: Million Mile Run 2013

One Month. One Cause. One Million Miles.

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to host Million Mile Run to raise awareness and funds during National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, September ‘13

Philadelphia, PA (July 2013) – In an effort to raise the profile of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation will go the distance this September introducing the Million Mile Run. With firsthand knowledge of just how far parents of children with cancer would go to find a cure for their child, the Foundation will challenge supporters across the country to do just that, collectively walk or run one million miles during the month of September to work toward better treatments and ultimately cures.

The brainchild of Foundation Co-Executive Director, Jay Scott, a running enthusiast, the Million Mile Run will invite ambitious individuals, as well as teams, to pledge to walk/run and contribute to the one million mile goal during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Drawing from the inspiration of Foundation creator Alexandra “Alex” Scott, who set out to raise $1 million through lemonade stands in 2004, Jay Scott feels that through combined efforts, reaching one million miles in just thirty days is attainable.

“The Million Mile Run will act as an easy way for walkers and runners of all abilities to contribute to the fight against childhood cancer and raise the profile of the awareness month,” says Scott. “Though some people have commented that one million miles might be a crazy goal, and maybe they are right, my daughter Alex taught me that when you set your mind to something and garner the help of others, anything is possible. She reached her million, and I think we can too.”

The Million Mile Run will utilize both the MapMyRun application and the ability for participants to manually enter the miles they log daily. Individuals who participate will average 3-4 miles a day, while teams can split up the 100 miles. For instance, a group of 4 employees can walk a mile at lunch every day and easily reach their goal. Additionally, participants are urged to recruit friends and family members to pledge dollar amounts for each mile, or provide a straight donation.

“September has become highly recognizable within the childhood cancer community as an important time of year,” says Liz Scott, Alex’s mom and Co-Executive Director of the Foundation. “However, for the general public, it still flies highly under the radar. We think the Million Mile Run has the ability and mass appeal to change that, one mile at a time.”

Individuals and teams who are interested in participating or learning more about the Million Mile Run can visit MillionMileRun.org.

About Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $60 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 300 pediatric cancer research projects nationally. Press Release: ‘All In’ For The 15th Edition of adidas King Of The Road 2013 Run!

Malaysia set to be host country for the regional championship this year

Petaling Jaya, 23rd July 2013 – Back by popular demand the long awaited adidas King Of The Road is set to thrill runners again. With the tremendous success of the race in 2012 and 2011, adidas Malaysia digitally launched its 15th series today. The adidas King Of The Road Malaysia 2013 is scheduled to flag off on October 20th and will once again be held on the NPE Highway over a 16.8KM and 10KM stretch.

The adidas King Of The Road 2013 is part of an international event conceptually organized by adidas across five South East Asian countries. This year’s run will also see Malaysia as the final leg and host of the adidas King Of The Road Southeast Asia 2013, which will see the reigning champions from Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia competing to be crowned this year’s Regional adidas King of the Road. The race will mark the third run held on the NPE Highway by popular demand from participants. The adidas King Of The Road 2013 is also in celebration of the smart partnership between adidas Malaysia and IJM and in support of IJM’s 30th anniversary.

The 2013 edition run is anticipated to attract approximately 11,000 participants. Debuting this year is a special junior category with a distance of 10 km for school between the ages of 15 – 17 years old. “Running is fast becoming a very popular recreational sports lifestyle among Malaysians and keeping up with this fitness trend we hope to contribute to the local sports scene by cultivating healthy sporting habits and an active lifestyle. This is why we decided to open a category for school students this year as well”, said Brand Manager of adidas Malaysia, Bryan Gee in an official statement.

The event is open to participants aged 15 years and above across two categories – the National category (Men/Women) is open to local runners (Malaysians and Permanent Residents) and the International category (Men/Women) for international participants.

The runners will again enjoy a unique running experience on the NPE Highway which will be exclusively closed to all traffic from 5.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. The run consists of two distances targeted to everyone who likes to run. The first is a unique 16.8km route for more serious runners, and the second a 10km route suited more for the social runner.

“The organisation of running events such as the adidas King of the Road is meant for runners to challenge themselves. We want to create a platform that offers runners a unique and memorable experience and an opportunity to get together and achieve personal breakthroughs”, continued Bryan Gee.

The theme for this year’s race is ‘Boost your run’, inspired by the latest adidas BOOST™ foam innovation which has revolutionized the running world with its debut in the market earlier this year. The new adidas BOOST™ range features groundbreaking cushioning technology, which provides the highest energy return in the running industry.

The highly anticipated regional run of the year is supported by the Ministry of Works, Polis Diraja Malaysia, Malaysian Highway Authority and IJM with official partners New Pantai Expressway and official venue sponsor Sunway Pyramid – the country’s first themed shopping mall. The run will include state of the art tracking equipment and the latest in technology set to monitor the race.

The normal participation fee is RM65 per runner (16.8km), RM 55 per runner (10km) and RM30 per runner for the ‘Junior’ category (10KM). Registration is now open until the official closing date on 22nd September and while places are still available.

Early bird participants for the National and International categories who register from now up till 21st August are entitled to the early bird rates, which are RM55 (16.8km) and RM45 (10km). The ‘Junior’ category rate will remain at RM30. All participants will receive a special adidas King Of the Road 2013 tote bag with a running vest, timing chip and awesome giveaways. Participants will also receive a medal upon completion of the race.

The drive which started in 2011 (2008 in Singapore) was organised to serve the running community’s desire to recycle their “retired” running shoes. With Running Lab located at Tropicana City Mall, over 250 pairs of shoes were collected during the 1-month long drive. Donors were also provided with a RM80 footwear voucher to purchase a new pair. Venue Change of Penang Bridge International Marathon 2013: Back to the First Bridge

Below is the statement from the PBIM committee:
"After the Penang Bridge International Marathon committee’s meeting with various government agencies, a decision has been made to change the marathon venue and routes back to the first Penang Bridge. This is because the report from investigations on the Second Bridge tragedy is still not out till today to certify the safety of the bridge. Therefore, in view of the safety of our runners, and to prevent further delay in logistics and other preparations, it will be best to have the marathon back on the first bridge this year."

News: Injured ntv7 Feel Good Run Participants Released After Receiving Medical Care

Official Statement from ntv7

Three runners were injured in an accident incident involving an unidentified vehicle during this morning's ntv7 Feel Good Run in Bandar Utama, Selangor.

ntv7 immediately sent the injured runners to University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) for treatment. All three suffered cuts and bruises and were released on the same day after having been thoroughly examined by the medical centre.

ntv7 has made a police report at the Kota Damansara Traffic police and will give full cooperation in their investigation.

According to eyewitness accounts, the vehicle involved in the incident allegedly entered the lane dedicated for the runners despite the safety cones being placed. After hitting the runners, the vehicle sped off from the scene. Eyewitnesses have provided details including the vehicle registration to the event organisers.

The Feel Good Run is a non-competitive, charity driven event that promotes healthy lifestyles by encouraging the public to run for a good cause. 5,700 runners participated in this year's edition. Beneficiaries of this charity event include Hospis Malaysia, Malaysian Rare Disorders Society, Rumah Kanak-Kanak Tengku Budriah and SPCA Selangor.

Group General Manager of ntv7 and 8TV Airin Zainul said "Organisers responded immediately to provide care for the injured runners who were then transferred to UMMC to undergo medical treatment there. ntv7 is pleased to hear that all three have been checked, treated and released. We wish them a speedy recovery".

Airin added that the organisers had taken all precautions to ensure the safety of all participants and thanked eyewitnesses for providing valuable information regarding the accident.
