Most of the route was indoors, going through both Mid Valley Megamall and The Gardens Mall. Nevertheless, all participants’ registration fees, amounting to RM100,000 was channelled to Teach For Malaysia for their efforts in ending education inequity.
The charity walk was flagged off by Antony Barragry, CEO of IGB REIT, along with Elizabeth Tan, Joint Chief Operating Officer of IGB REIT, and Ko Chai Huat, Head of Marketing of IGB REIT. At 7am, the school bells rang and off the participants went in their blue Calvin Klein Performance official event tees!
After their walk, participants were then given the option to sweat it out by joining a group Zumba session conducted by Fitness First and Celebrity Fitness or head straight to redeem food and beverages prepared by sponsors. Those who chose to stay for the Zumba session saw Antony Barragry present a mock cheque to Teach For Malaysia Managing Director and Co-Founder, Dzameer Dzulkifli.

In keeping with the Run’s tradition, participants were able to redeem some well-deserved treats after their walk such as Eureka popcorn, cereal bars from Jaya Grocer, tarts from Lavender, sandwiches from Old Town White Coffee and beverages from Moo Cow Frozen Yogurt and The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.
In addition to the food and beverages, participants who dressed according to the “Back to School” theme were given a chance to win prizes when they answered questions about the event and Teach For Malaysia.
Shoppers and participants who visited The Gardens Mall’s North Palm on the Ground Floor from 13 to 22 September were able to view and engage with the Teach For Malaysia interactive exhibition. Lucky visitors to the exhibition also got to be part of Teach For Malaysia’s weekend interactive performances whereby volunteers posed as B40 (Bottom 40%) students gave visitors a taste of what Teach For Malaysia Fellows experience during their classroom lessons.
