POTATOES USA Serves Up Some Potato Power at the 1st Ever YAYASAN TM INTERNATIONAL TOWER RUN 2019

Soh Wai Ching with two other US Potato lovers!

The potato may be small in size, but it is big in nutrition!

Studies have shown that the difference between the athlete’s best performances come down to his or her nutrition intake. Potatoes provide the complex carbohydrates, potassium, fibre and vitamin C required to perform better than ever. More energy-packed than any other popular vegetables, potatoes contain more potassium than a banana.

To promote the intake of potatoes as a wonderful source of fueling for athletes, Potatoes USA has become the Gold Sponsor the Yayasan TM International Tower Run 2019 at Menara TM, Kuala Lumpur to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of YTM this year.

This inaugural event, co-organised by Yayasan TM with JomRun Sdn Bhd is the first-ever Individual Flag Off Towerrunning Event in Malaysia.

For its first edition, Yayasan TM International Tower Run 2019 has already made its mark with a total participation of over 1,300 runners from all around the world including Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Nepal, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, Ukraine, United Kingdom and USA.

The event was also sanctioned by Towerrunning World Association (TWA) and Malaysia Towerrunning Association (MTA) in ensuring all safety and technical aspects successfully implemented.

As a charity-based event, Yayasan TM International Tower Run 2019 received tremendous support with more than RM140,000 raised from the participation fees, corporate sponsorship from our generous sponsors, as well as individual contributions. The funds will be used to help the less fortunate, deserving students to overcome their financial setbacks towards improving their academic performance.

Yayasan TM International Tower Run 2019 offered participants with 200m elevation climb up 1,296 steps up the TM Tower. All runners were flagged off individually with a time interval of five (5) seconds while for the elite runners, the time interval was 15 seconds.

At the race venue, Potatoes USA served piping hot mashed potatoes and a delicious Blueberry smoothie made with US potatoes.

The participants get to try the delicious goodness of potatoes before climbing up the 4th tallest building in Malaysia together with Soh Wai Ching, Asia’s No. 1 Tower Runner.

Potatoes are easily digestible and more energy-dense than any other popular vegetable and potatoes are also a good choice to fuel the demands of competition

Recent research has shown that the potatoes are natural, functional, energy-packed foods with healthy goodness for sportsmen:

● 620 Milligrams of Potassium: With more potassium than a medium-size banana, potatoes are perfect for aiding muscle, cardiovascular and nervous system function during long endurance events.

● 26 grams of carbohydrate: Potatoes are a nutrient-dense quality carbohydrate, important for optimal physical and mental performance as the primary fuel for your brain and a key source of energy for muscles. And, because your body’s own stores of carbohydrate are limited and may be depleted – even in a single session of intense and/or prolonged exercise – it’s important to replenish them.

● 110 Calories for Energy: Easily digestible and more energy-dense than any other popular vegetables, potatoes are a good choice to fuel the demands of racing a marathon.

● 2 grams of Fiber: One medium-size potato with skin contributes about 7% daily value per serving

● Vitamin C: One medium-size potato gives you about 30% of your daily value

● No Fat, No Sodium & No Cholesterol
