SunMed Jogathon and Sunway Medical Centre Healthfest 2011

That is a picture of Tan Sri Dr. M. Jegathesan or fondly known as the Flying Doctor for being the fastest man in Malaysia; flagging off the Fun Run category of the SunMed Jogathon 2011 this morning.

I didn't manage to catch the earlier 5km flag off because I woke up late. Darn those noisy neighbours and the mamak shop across the road. They kept me awake the whole night by their incessant shouts and screams over some football match.

I finally dozed off early in the morning but only to wake up 15 mins to 7am! Hurriedly, I dashed to the Sunway Medical Centre where the race was supposed to start.

But when I reached Sunway Pyramid, I already saw a stream of runners racing down the road....

Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel, one of the many famous landmarks along the SunMed Jogathon route.

As expected, I saw alot of strollers amongst the runners. Families are having a great fun time out on a great Sunday morning!

I reached the event area at the far end of the Sunway Medical Centre carpark when the warm up session of the fun runners was about to start.

Sleepy baby...heheh! Must be awake all night for the football match! LOL!

1..2...3...Stretch!!!!

A short briefing session was conducted to the fun runners before the start. The start point led into a steep downward slope to the Elephant Walk!

Off we go! The way the kids dashed down the slop could give me a heart attack. LOL! Anyway, no Jack and Jill incident was reported during the race. Heheh!

What a beautiful Sunday morning! We were surrounded by lush greeneries as we walked deeper towards the Elephant Walk.

Slow down! ;)

The kids are fast. Me? Enjoying the great sceneries around the Sunway Lagoon while taking some pics. Heheh!

The fun run is not a stroller friendly jogathon as participants have to go up some steps...But it didn't stop this family from participating. Bravo!

Water & Gatorade station for a 1.5km run? We seriously think it is not necessary. The fun runners are being spoilt! Heheh! :D

We had to run through this beautifully landscaped garden before we got out from the Sunway Lagoon.

Smile! :D

After the race, runners can enjoy free flow of wonderful beverages from these generous sponsors.

Hot coffee from Starbucks!

Chilled Gatorade.

The yummilicious cold Milo from the Milo van.

Oh yes! And Wall's Icecream too! I ate TWO! Love the Mango Tango!

Each runner who completes his/ her run will get a certificate.

After breaking out a sweat at the SunMed Jogathon, we proceeded to the Swan Convention Centre where the Sunway Medical Centre Healthfest and the prize presentation were being held.

BTW, that SunMed mascot is a swan called Angel, not a duck. Heheh!

There were free health talks and discounts on health packages and products at the Sunway Medical Healthfest. There were lots of freebies to be given away and health vouchers up to take home.

You can't take home the skeleton though...Heheh!

You can even get your BMI, blood pressure, blood glucose, eye and teeth checked with medical consultation included as well!

And now the prize presentation...

Men 5K Category A Champion: Arul Thevar (17:39)

Women 5K Category B Champion: Sheela SamiVellu (19:14)

Fun Run Champion: Mohd Shafiq (4:42)

Dr. Chong Su-Lin CEO of Sunway Medical Centre presenting a check of RM5,000 to Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam, Presedent of the Children's Wish Society while Tan Sri Dr. M. Jegathesan looked on. Proceeds of the jogathon will go towards fulfilling a child’s wish from the Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia, a charity for terminally ill children. (Bravo runners!)

We enjoyed the run very much and certainly hope that Sunway Medical Centre will make it an annual affair. A 5km run is just perfect for those who want to start running. Good job SunMed Jogathon team!

Photo: KARAK Gala Premiere Night at TGV KLCC - Shahir. Kilafairy, Shera Ayob, Along Eyzendy & Yusry Abd Halim

Thanks to KRU Studios, we get to see one of the most anticipated horror movies in Malaysia this year! Yes, I quite enjoy Karak, a horror take on the urban legends of the Karak Highway. There is nothing much to scream about the story though. All the ingredients to make a horror movies are there like the bathing scene involving a young beautiful lass before the ghost gets her, creepy old man, car crash trying to avoid a spooky entity in the middle of the road, creepy little child and an even creepier mom etc.

What make this movie interesting are some of the spooky entities are CGI, not just an actor behind a mask and frizzy wig. We also like the score or the soundtrack very much - well produced, nothing like I have heard before in a local horror movies. It is almost Hollywood-like.

Hope you enjoy the photos we managed to snap during the media screening night, one day before the KARAK hits the major screens nationwide on 26 May 2011.

A favourite entertainment destination for action and adventure, AXN’s high-adrenaline series like CSI, So You Think You Can Dance and Hawaii Five-0 are immensely popular with Malaysian audiences. Mr. Loke Kah Meng, Chief Executive Officer of AXA AFFIN Life Insurance Berhad said, “AXA AFFIN Health is Might AXN Big Challenge is focused on raising awareness on the importance of healthy living.”

The theme Health is Might is focused on three main pillars of health which are all interlinked with one another. They are: Physical Health – overall fitness and importance of exercising. Nutrition Health – you are what you eat; the importance of knowing what you eat and how it would affect your health. Mental Health – importance of maintaining good mental health for a long healthy life.

”Most importantly, one has to take steps to protect their health from life’s unexpected medical situations at an early stage of their lives to lessen the financial impact and minimize the escalating medical cost. As part of AXA Group, global leader in financial protection, AXA AFFIN’s Medical Care plan is a market leading plan with no lifetime limit on the total amount claimed. It enables policyholders to have continuous access to their medical plan up to age 81.

It was the first of its kind when we launched the product in July 2010, designed to meet customers’ needs throughout their life stages,” Mr Loke added.

On a lighter note, Mr Loke concluded that “having a healthy lifestyle can be fun, hence the partnership with AXN in organising the AXN Big Challenge befits the idea of fun in health with your family or friends.”

Join Tiz Zaqyah, Dynas, Gambit, Juliana Evans and many more Celebrities at GLAM Heart and The Body Shop Walk To Stop Child Sex Trafficking

GLAM HEART AND THE BODY SHOP WALKING TO STOP CHILD SEX TRAFFICKING

Walk with us and make a statement through this combination of fashion and charity to raise public awareness on child sex trafficking.

KUALA LUMPUR, 1 May – GLAM magazine together with The Body Shop is jointly organizing a fashionable, funky and fun walk in an effort to take a stance against child sex trafficking in Malaysia, as well as to highlight the issues surrounding the matter in hand.

Every year, more than 2.5 million people are trafficked around the world. Out of this alarming number, 1.2 million are under the age of 18. These children and young people are then abused, raped, beaten and repeatedly sold. While we may choose to ignore this pressing problem, it is crucial for us to know that this problem is not just happening in our neighbouring countries but is very real here in our very own shores as well.

Here in Malaysia, TENAGANITA estimates that 90 children go missing every month. Malaysia remains not just a destination but also a source and transit point for young people who are trafficked.

As such, the whole nation has a duty to play in putting an end to this predicament. While we do have an Anti-Trafficking Act in place, the specific awareness on the trafficking of children for sexual purposes is lacking.

Details of the walk are as follows:

Date : 18 June 2011

Time : 6pm

Venue : Pavilion Crystal Fountain, Jalan Bukit Bintang

Participation: Log on to http://www.hooha.asia/ and register

Fee : RM30[All proceeds will be given to Tenaganita, Nursalam & PS The Children]

Dress Code : Glamourous

* The first 1000 participants will be entitled to a RM100 goodie bag.

Personalities and celebrities such as Dynas, Gambit, Juliana Evans, Tiz Zaqyah and many more will be joining us to make a difference.

Registration will begin at 6pm and the walk will commence at 7pm. The evening will wrap up with a fun-filled carnival featuring performances by local artistes.

Runwitme Says: It is GLAM all the way when you walk for a cause! Check out the promo spread from GLAM Magazine. We think it is gonna be an awesome event.

So, ladies, dress to kill in your heels and fashionable garbs while men, don't be shy to flaunt your fashion sense with colourful and stylish attires. You get the chance to strut your stuff with many celebrities who will be walking in style to stop child sex trafficking too!
