Happy Birthday Queen of Rock Ella

Erm...FYI, that is not Ella's young boyfriend. Heheh! He is a rock veteran, Mus of MAY who shared the same stage at KL Tower Music Fest yesterday night, which also featured big names in rock such as XPDC and AMUK! I could still feel my rib cage thumping with the bass from the speakers! Awesome night!

When the clock struck 12:00am on 31 July, birthday song filled the air for Ella backstage. Her fan club, Ella's gang surprised her a beautiful cake.

Check out the video below.

Wishing Ella, Happy Birthday! Semoga Panjang Umur, Murah Rezeki dan Cepat Mendapat Jodoh (ahem! ahem!)

This litle girl is fast! She took second placing in the Girls category with the little help from her cute pink sneakers. :)

Check out some of the ramdom pics of friends and strangers alike that I took from the race.

Happy to see the finish line.

1Malaysia Street Race and Food Fest 2010

Enjoy a great day out at 1Malaysia Street Race and Food Fest 2010! Would you fancy playing soccer in a flooded field every time it rains?

Or sit on a wet open air assembly area for Morning Assembly after a heavy rain?

Or study in insecurity because the school fence has been breached by outsiders on numerous occasions?

Or using a toilet where the taps are broken?

This is exactly what 1200 students of SMK Bandar Utama Damansara (4) in Petaling Jaya are facing on a daily basis. It is for these reasons that the Parents Teachers Association of the school, in association with Bandar Utama Residents Association and MBPJ, has embarked on a charity fund raising event to help alleviate these problems so that a more conducive environment can be created for better academic and sporting excellence.

Come Sunday 25th July 2010, one of the biggest charity fund raising efforts in the residential neighbourhood of Bandar Utama will be underway. Residents, parents, college and school students will enjoy a great Sunday out at a 1Malaysia Street Race and Food Fest which will take place at the school grounds.

The event, which starts at 8am to 5pm,will be graced by our Guest of Honour, Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Bin Haji Yassin at 10am. We have also invited MBPJ Datuk Bandar, the local MP and State Assemblyman, Education Ministry officials, Headmasters of neighbouring schools, developers and community leaders.

The highlight of the event will be a 1Malaysia Street Race where participants of all races will run a distance of 3.2km around the Bandar Utama neighbourhood. They will encounter obstacles and challenges along the way...all in the name of fun!

When they complete the race, an Inter School Foozball Challenge awaits them at the school compound. A total of 16 teams will pit their skills against each other. Perhaps, the most eagerly awaited contest is a friendly match comprising sports celebrities. To add spice to the event, the organisers have invited current and ex sports stars eg Daniel Bego, Razif Sidek, Datuk Dr. Jegathesan, Ong Ewe Hock & KimberlyYap.

There will be more than 50 food and games stalls offering mouth watering local and international dishes. Besides that, there will a Haunted House, Garage Sale and exhibition booths put up by charitable bodies eg World Wildlife Fund and Malaysian Association for Blind.

Corporate sponsors will also be turning out in full force as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility. 1Malaysia Street Race and Inter School Foozball Challenge are sponsored by Maybank and Celcom Bhd respectively.

SMK BUD(4)’s cheer leading team, which emerged runner up in a recent national level Cheer Leading Competition will also strut their stuff. Other performances include the school’s 24 Drums Group, Malay and Indian Dances, all of which are internally groomed.

Application Forms for the Street Race and Foozball Challenge can be downloaded from www.my-grocer.com/smkbud4

A Visit to PJ Caring Home

PJ Caring Home is a home for the mentally ill who are homeless or from poor income group. It is one of the first to adopt an open concept method ie allowing most patients to lead a life as ordinary as possible, encouraging interaction with society. Activities include short trips out to the shops and having a drink at the local coffee-shop.

There are 107 patients at the home. The youngest patient is aged 17 years and the oldest is 87 years old. They live in three houses, all within the PJ area. There is a Boys' home, a Girls' home and an Elderly's Home.

The home is established by Mr. Mr Uthaya Perumal or Mr. Peru who gained vast experience from working in other mental institutions. His open concept method is based on the idea that mental illness is a sickness, not a disease, and therefore these patients should not be shunned or ridiculed by the public. He hopes for an accepting caring public as the love, care and acceptance felt by the patients will have an immensely positive effect on their recovery.

When my friend, Irene asked me if I wanted to volunteer to take pictures for the visit organised by J&J, I jumped to the opportunity without hesitating. It's the least I could do, knowing I don't have millions to donate to charity. :)

The event was part of J&J Volunteer Day when all the J&J staff were given a day off and encouraged to take part in some community/ charitable work.

The girls love visitors. We were welcome with open arms to their home.

The activities of the day include baking demo and games - congkak and carom, after we had breakfast together with the girls.

Amelia whipping up some eggs for her Orange Pound Cake.

Nyaros played the part of a translator. LOL!

Shake, rattle and bake. We had to entertain the girls too while doing the baking demo, otherwise they would fall asleep. LOL!

Dahlia, Poi Khun and Georgia demonstrated how to make "Honey Joy" cookies from cornflakes and honey.

We got some help from the girls to put the cornflakes and sprinkles into the paper cups....They really enjoyed it.

The honey joy, baked with love....

The Orange Pound Cake, also baked with love....

So, the cake must be eaten with love as well-lah. Heheh!

The cookies and cakes turned out fantastic. We shared and ate them with everyone present. We also had some dancing and singing sessions. The girls were very eager to show off their talents.

I find the morning enriching and unforgettable even by just being there for them. It feels good to do good.... :)

Here's a little slide show I put together after the visit. Background song by Lara Fabian. One of my favourite singers.

ENJOY!

Siemens Run 2010

What? Siemens Run 2010

When? 18 July 2010

Where? Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur

Siemens Run is back! Having had its first run in 2004, Siemens is anxious to repeat the run as part of its long-term corporate responsibility commitment towards advancing sporting opportunities, community vitality and health.

Siemens Run 2010 - What are you running for? was held on 18th July 2010 at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur to bring people together for charity.

Off to a flying start!

Drummers set the pace for the runners during flag off.

The two finish entrances created some confusion for the runners in the boys category. They were the first to come back and instead of heading towards the right, they dashed into the left....

Personally, I found Siemens run had successfully incorporated the fun element in running. Cheerleaders and drummers lined the last kilometer leading towards the finish line, encouraging and cheering for tired runners. (Insert thumbs up here)

3...2....1...Jump!

Michele Tan, one of the fast women in the country. She won 1st prize in the Women Open category.

The Orange Man of HooHa spotted!

One of the few stroller friendly races in Malaysia. The route for Dream Run is flat and fun. Great for daddies and mummies with babies who love to run.

While the guys had cheerleaders to feast their eyes on...The girls also got equal chance to check out the abang-abang hensem....

...and the Bollywood-like actors/ drummers? LOL!

Daddy's little girl.

The Dynamitez....

The best solo cheerleader awards goes to....

She really cheered her heart out for the runners. Ever smiling and erm...loud too. Heheh! I think one of the runners gave her the leafy crown on her head.

A young runner who couldn't complete his run took a ride from the official.

Wanna lick his lollypop? ;)

Hahah! Actually, the lollypops were given free by Renaissance Hotel to celebrate their 14th Anniversary. Sweet!

I caught The Pirates practising their stunts backstage.

1 Malaysia drummers in action. The drummers where featured during the race along the Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman earlier.

Sinnaponnu Seenivasan, 73, from Kepong, was the oldest participant in the Siemens Run 2010.

She caught the eyes of everyone Sunday when she completed the race dressed in a batik sarong and blouse, New Straits Times reported.

Sinnaponnu, who has been participating in the event for the last 30 years, must be laughing her way to the bank with the RM1,000 she received as a token of appreciation.

Don't shoot the photographer! LOL!

More photos in the slide show inclusing pictures of the winners in all categories.

Background music - What You Waiting For by our very own Mizz Nina feat. Colby O'Donis. Can't find any song with the title "What You Running For" LOL! The tune from Mizz Nina is close enough.

ENJOY!

Acknowledgment: Thank you Siemens Malaysia, especially to Ms. Goh for the invite and all the info we needed for the blogpost.
