Top 10 Reasons Why The Music Run by AIA Is The Most Happening Fun Run This Year!

Music volumes soared to unprecedented levels in Kuala Lumpur as over 8,000 participants – dubbed Music Runners – walked, ran, and danced for 5km to their favourite beats at the inaugural The Music Run™ by AIA at the Selangor Turf Club!

The 5km fun run is the first-of-its-kind in the World and encourages anyone to have a run out whilst immersed to music tracks voted by the Music Runners themselves.

We ditched our MP3 player at home and ran the whole 5km with our camera to capture you the music runners along the course. Here are the reasons why we think The Music Run is the most happening fun run this year!

Reason 1: For a fee of RM70, you get such awesome race pack even before the event! We love the funky event Tee by New Balance and the drawstring bag filled with sponsored goodies.

Reason 2: Powered by Spotify, Music Runners i.e we voted for our favourite tracks across five genres: Pop Divas, Indie Rock, Pop Kings, Dance Music, and Hip Hop to be played at the run. One Republic’s ‘Counting Stars’ emerged as the playlist’s top voted song.

Reason 3: Among the Music Runners were many familiar faces such as DJ Linora Low; TV hosts Azura Zainal and Michelle Lee; singer Poova Plachciak; DJ couple Patricia K and Joey G, and the RED FM team comprising JJ, Jeremy, Mynn, Fiqrie, Melissa and Terry.

Reason 4: Fun facts, trivia and memorable quotes for music lovers aplenty. Do you ever know that Madonna, Gwen Stefani & Celine Dion are distant relatives? LOL!

Reason 5: The electrifying atmosphere, thanks to the cheerful cheerleaders along the route. If you are lucky, they might do a little “stunt: for you!

Reason 6: Pose dan dance with your favourite “celebrities”, dead or alive. Okay, they are cardboard cut out and impersonators, but hey it is still fun! Perhaps next year, they’d bring the real McCoys to the run!

Reason 7: The Hip Hop Tunnel! Thumping music and colour changing lights in the tunnel bring out the swag as we run in it. Next year, they should throw in some glitter balls, smoke machines and laser lights here!

Reason 8: The Music Run venue itself is a win! The Selangor Turf Club. You can pretend to rungallop like the race horse around the race track. The down side is sometimes you get a whiff of the horse shit. But hey, it’s not every day you get to run in a horse racing track!

Reason 9: The lively atmosphere was not confined to the running track alone, as Music Runners were treated to a plethora of interactive games and activities at each of the music zones. World renowned hip-hop group Elecoldxhot and Asia’s champion beat-boxer Shawn Lee were the highlight showcase events, each receiving rapturous support from the crowd.

After completing the run, the party continued at the Finish Zone as DJ couple Patricia K and Joey G laid out their grooviest beats.

Reason 10:The finisher wristband (that comes in black or red) is a keeper for sure.

Press Release: NIKE FREE 2014 Running Collection Revolutionizes Natural Motion Flexibility

L to R: Nike Free 3.0 Flyknit, 4.0 Flyknit and 5.0 Men

Nike Free 3.0 Flyknit, Nike Free 4.0 Flyknit and Nike Free 5.0 feature biggest natural motion advancements in Nike Free since its 2004 launch.

Malaysia, 18 March 2013 – The 2014 Nike Free running collection makes a performance statement echoing those famous words from coach and Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman. Bowerman’s belief was that design should focus on the athlete’s body and movement. His convictions inspired a design philosophy around the concept of natural motion and sparked the idea for the paradigm-shattering Nike Free introduced in 2004.

Ten years later, advancements in technology and product engineering continue to push the boundaries of footwear design even further in the all-new Nike Free 3.0 Flyknit, Nike Free 4.0 Flyknit, and Nike Free 5.0.

L to R: Nike Free 3.0 Flyknit, 4.0 Flyknit and 5.0 Women

“After 10 years of continual innovation, we've truly revolutionized the way these shoes work,” said Rob Dolan, Senior Footwear Design Director, Nike Running. “By utilizing new technologies and the principles of natural motion, we’re really able to allow the foot to move for the runner in a way we’ve never been able to do before.”

The Nike Free 3.0 Flyknit

A key breakthrough came from Nike’s sport research lab data, athlete insights and studying the foot in motion. While runners move forward linearly, their feet don’t move in a perfectly straight line – they tend to roll slightly when striking the ground. The design team knew multi-directional flexibility was key to delivering natural motion in a shoe. To achieve this, the 2014 collection features three of the most significant developments in Nike Free since its 2004 launch.

Nike Free 4.0 Flyknit

HEXAGONAL FLEX GROOVES
Data gathered at Nike’s sport research lab and insights from athletes helped inform Nike’s first-ever outsole with a hexagonal flex-groove pattern, delivering multi-directional flexibility and helping enable the runner’s foot to move more freely in all directions.

ANATOMICAL SHAPE
A more anatomically-shaped heel is designed to roll as the athlete’s foot hits the ground. This body-led approach to designing footwear focuses on mimicking the shape of the foot and aims to allow the foot and body to move more naturally.

NIKE FLYKNIT TECHNOLOGY
An ultra-light Flyknit upper provides a supportive, contoured fit in the Nike Free 3.0 Flyknit and Free 4.0 Flyknit. Securing the foot over the low profile sole, the upper complements the flexibility of the Nike Free platform, allowing the foot to move more freely in all directions. Nike Flyknit technology enables designers to micro-engineer areas of stretch, support and breathability, and to seamlessly integrate Nike Flywire support where needed.

Nike Free 5.0

The collection allows runners to choose the desired level of flexibility and close-to-the-ground ride. The Nike Free 3.0 Flyknit offers the most flexibility and a four-millimeter heel-to-forefoot offset, the Nike Free 4.0 Flyknit provides flexibility with more cushioning at a six-millimeter offset, and with an eight-millimeter offset the Nike Free 5.0 is a happy medium between natural flexibility and a traditional running shoe.

The Nike Free 3.0 Flyknit, Nike Free 4.0 Flyknit and Nike Free 5.0 will be available on Nike.com and in stores beginning April 3.

Press Release: Malaysia Women Marathon 2014

SOLE SISTERS COME TOGETHER DESPITE THE HAZE

MWM 2014 was converted to non-competitive marathon, prize-money to be donated to charity

16th March 2014, Shah Alam – About 3,500 runners, 80 percent of the 4,400 who registered for the race turned up at Dataran Kemerdekaan for the marathon early this morning, braving the haze situation in Shah Alam.

They were undeterred by the haze and were hoping it will clear up in time for the flag off. But as Mother Nature would have it, the haze cloaked the flag off and assembly area. The organisers took the consensus from the runners and decided to convert the 42km (full marathon) and 21km (half-marathon) runs into a non-competitive half-marathon. 10km and 5km fun run were maintained.

Runners took the news in high spirits and were flagged off from the Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam at 4.45am. The runners ran along the scenic route of Shah Alam including the Blue Mosque, the park, Stadium Malawati and Istana Bukit Kayangan, along the residential areas of Shah Alam.

Cheryl Chou, 34, Accountant said that MWM2014 was organised very well with water stations found at every 2km of the route. “It was just too bad that the haze did not clear. I still was happy to be here as I wanted to support the event and still be able to keep fit,”she added. Cheryl was accompanied by her husband, Donny Chong, 33, as a pacer throughout the 21km run.

Although there were no winners, the prizes were given away as lucky draw prizes to those who completed the race within the qualifying time. Prize money of about RM18,000 will be given to charities at a later date which will be announced.

Prizes that were given away as lucky draw prizes included jewellery from Habib Jewels worth more than RM10,000 and 2xu Compression Wear and a Doof Duffle bag, as well as AirAsia air tickets to Lombok, Phuket and Siem Reap for the best‐dressed runners.

Many runners completed their runs within time and were very proud to collect their finisher skirts, bracelets and pendants.

YB Elizabeth Wong, Chairman Standing Committee of Tourism, Consumer Affairs & Environment of Selangor and YB Dr Daroyah binti Alwi, Chairman Standing Committee of Health, Development Entrepreneur, Science, Technology & Innovation joined the women in the morning race and were very satisfied with the event despite the last minute changes.

MWM 2014 this time was a three-day event where the 1st day started with Dialogue Sessions with some very accomplished women in their chosen fields, such as YB Rodziah Ismail, Selangor Exco for Women Affairs, Miss Airin Zainul, Group General Manager of NTV7 & 8TV, Eliza Nordin and Alecia Heng of Gorgeous Geeks.

The highlight of the dialogue was a special guest speaker, Catherine Ndereba, 2 time World Marathon Champion and 4 time Boston Marathon Champion who shared her experience as a woman runner.

Nicknamed “Catherine the Great and a cili padi at only 5’3”, Ms Ndereba also conducted a workshop the following day, 15th March 2014 for women runners at the Royal Theatre in Shah Alam.

She not only flagged off the event, she also ran with the runners during the morning
race. There was an expo on the mezzanine floor and 1st floor of the Royal Theatre Shah Alam, where representatives from other marathons from around the region had been invited to support MWM as well as promote their runs such as Melbourne Marathon, The Great Ocean Road Marathon, Gold Coast Airport Marathon and Laguna Phuket Marathon. Likewise, MWM will also be presented at their marathons.

There were other partners and sponsors who had exhibition booths displaying their products such as Nashata Lifestyle, Avon and Prudential, just to name a few. “The race is gaining much recognition in Malaysia as it has received an increased participation of 250 percent. We hope to become an International event very soon,”quipped Karen Loh, Race Director and Founder of Malaysia Women Marathon.

She also added that they be doing the necessary promotions in countries like Taiwan and Japan to gain more international participation in future and for next year’s MWM2015 on the 8th March 2015.

“We will continue to support Malaysia Women Marathon and even more next year as it coincides with Visit Selangor Year 2015. We hope to hold it in Shah Alam as it is the best venue as we have received very good feedback from the runners during these events,” said Puan Noorul Ashikin Mohd Din, General Manager of Tourism Selangor.

Sponsors of MWM2014 included Prudential, General Electric (GE), KT Tape, AVON, Nashata, Perodua and many more.
