Media Release: adidas Drops The Next Generation Of Running Greatness With Ultraboost Uncaged

KUALA LUMPUR, 22 JUNE 2016 – The wait is over. adidas embraces the future of running with the introduction of UltraBOOST Uncaged, a shoe inspired by fans and perfected by the innovation experts of adidas Running. Featuring a new adidas Primeknit upper, an internal support system and unique tiered lacing system, UltraBOOST Uncaged is engineered for maximum performance.

Originally created as an evolution of the greatest running shoe ever, UltraBOOST Uncaged continues the performance legacy of its predecessor with each element designed to collectively deliver an unparalleled running experience. To transform the Uncaged look into a performance vehicle, adidas adapted an internal midfoot skeleton using technology developed for the world’s top track athletes, delivering highly technical support and comfort with a rebellious look. A re-engineered adidas Primeknit upper provides flexible breathability and natural movement through each stride to complement an adaptive knit collar. A new multi-tiered lacing system allows runners to personalize style and fit, while specially-designed flat laces offer enhanced comfort and stability.

Alongside its new innovations, UltraBOOST Uncaged also maintains its signature UltraBOOST features. A supportive heel counter showcases the iconic embossed UltraBOOST name and keeps the foot locked in place for additional stability; a full length BOOST midsole provides industry leading Energy Return and a Stretchweb Continental Rubber™ outsole flexes naturally for superior traction with every step.

In addition to providing running greatness, UltraBOOST Uncaged represents the commitment adidas has to its fans and athletes. After global trendsetters first modified UltraBOOST by cutting off its cage, adidas embraced the movement and invited partners to create their own stylized versions of the shoe. Following this collaborative approach and in line with its dedication to delivering only the best for the athlete, adidas created its latest running innovation - a sleek new silhouette with the performance benefits that separate UltraBOOST from every other running shoe.

“UltraBOOST Uncaged combines the performance and innovation standard of UltraBOOST with the unique flair of our passionately creative fan base,” says Ben Herath, Vice President of Design for adidas Running. “adidas is committed to making athletes better through innovation and UltraBOOST Uncaged is another prime example of that pledge being met with the input of runners from around the world.”

adidas UltraBOOST Uncaged is available on shop.adidas.com.my and in adidas performance stores from June 29 at RRP RM750.

Media Release: Great Eastern Bubble Dash 2016 - Penang (5K) & Kuala Lumpur (21K, 12K, 5K)

KUALA LUMPUR, 27 June 2016 – Heart Foundation of Malaysia (Yayasan Jantung Malaysia) announced its collaboration with Great Eastern Life Assurance (Malaysia) Berhad (Great Eastern Life) to present the Great Eastern Bubble Dash Run 2016 which will be held in Penang and Kuala Lumpur.

For the first time in Malaysia, this year’s 5km Fun Run category will be based on multi-coloured bubble (made out of foam) stations placed throughout the running route. The recurring partnership follows the success of last year’s inaugural Great Eastern Colour My Heart Run, which was sold out at both venues. The announcement was made today by YABhg Tun Ahmad Sarji Bin Abdul Hamid, President of the Heart Foundation of Malaysia at Yayasan Jantung Malaysia and YBhg Dato Koh Yaw Hui, Director and Chief Executive Officer of Great Eastern Life.

YABhg Tun Ahmad Sarji said, “We are proud to collaborate with Great Eastern Life for the second consecutive year and we look forward to another fruitful partnership. Last year’s collaboration was a tremendous success raising over RM82,000 for the Heart Foundation of Malaysia”

According to YBhg Dato Koh Yaw Hui, the collaboration signifies both parties’ commitment in empowering the nation to embrace a balanced lifestyle through health and wellness initiatives.

He also added, “As a LIFE company, we want to empower more Malaysians to turn their health intentions into actions on their journey towards better living. Through this run, we want to demonstrate that an active lifestyle can be exciting, fun and a great way to spend quality time with our loved ones. For 2016, we want to be the first to bring a multi-coloured bubble run to over 25,000 Malaysians and inspire them to be fit and happy”

The Great Eastern Bubble Dash Run 2016 will flag-off at Queensbay Mall, Penang on 25 September 2016 and will make its way to Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur on 23 October 2016. It will be one of the signature events under the company’s Live Great Programme, the first integrated health and wellness programme developed by an insurance company in the region designed to help people in achieving their health goals.

Participants of the highly anticipated 5KM Fun Run category will pass through several stations where they will be showered with coloured bubble and foam, enjoy heart-pumping music and a host of other surprise activities. This category will be a leisure run and caters to runners of all ages and fitness levels. Early bird and LIVE GREAT Card member registrations start at RM 55, which includes a T-shirt, face mask, number bib and a pair of sunglasses.

For runners who are aiming to test their athletic prowess, they will have the option to sign up for either the 12KM LIVE GREAT Run category or 21KM LIVE GREAT Run category. The latter is a newly introduced category that will cater to an increasing demand from professional runners. Both categories will be an endurance race and will only be available at the Kuala Lumpur event. Early birds and LIVE GREAT Card members will enjoy a registration fee of RM 65 for the 12KM category and RM 75 for the 21KM category.

A video posted by runwitme (@runwitme) on

After completing their run, participants will also enjoy a post-event carnival (also known as the Healthy Heart Carnival) at both locations. The carnival will be open to runners for FREE and will feature exciting on-site offerings such as free health screenings, Live Zumba workout sessions, on-stage entertainment and exciting giveaways. Other attractions include various food and beverage stalls, interactive games and inflatable objects for children to play.

“The importance of providing a wholesome and positive participant experience in an event like this is critical if we are to reinforce the message of having a healthier lifestyle. As heart disease and stroke are still the number one killer in Malaysia (almost double the number of cancer-related deaths) we want to reduce this statistic by inculcating an active lifestyle through more proactive approaches.” stated Datuk Dr. JS Sambhi, Chairman of the Heart Foundation.

While encouraging Malaysians to live healthier and better in line with the Great Eastern Life brand promise, the run also incorporates a charity element whereby a portion of the proceeds from registrations will be channeled to the Heart Foundation of Malaysia.

Race Recap: Onesie Runsie 2016

For those uninitiated, Onesie was originally a term for an infant bodysuit, but in the 2000s has become a commonly used word for loose-fitting casual jumpsuits for adults! They come in various shapes and designs!

For the Onesie Runsie event held in Lake Garden on 29 May, we ordered out onesie online. We opted for a more "Malaysian" design - the Maybank Tiger! Heheh!

We didn't have time to test run the onesie but we had anticipated that it was going to heat up due to its fleece-like material. So, before the start of the run, we ensured that we were properly hydrated by having a chilled bottle of Lucozade! Yummy!

Honestly, we were a bit disappointed with the low number of onesie-wearing runners at the start line.

It was not made compulsory to wear onesie in the run but why go to a onesie run if you didn't wear one? We spotted a bunch of runners in tiger onesies roaring to go!

For those who dress-up to the occasion, we thank you! Thank you for he selfies too. Some onesies were too cute to ignore!

We were sweating buckets in the onesie but we kept moving!

The run took us around the lake twice! The inside of the onesie was dripping with sweat! It was like a personal sauna.

We finished the run nonetheless without getting heat-stroke. Heheh!

Running in onesie was indeed fun but we wished that we would have chosen a lighter material. Anyway, we were glad that we were well-hydrated before the run.

Specially formulated to improve hydration, the carbohydrates in Lucozade provide energy while electrolytes help to replace the sodium lost in sweat. Great tasting too!

See you next year Onesie Runsie!

Race Recap: BOH Eco Trail 2016

We quickly signed up for this race when we saw it was open for registration! Having done the earlier trail run by BOH a couple of years back, we craved for more run time in their beautiful tea plantation!

This time, the BOH Plantations Bukit Cheeding tea garden made an inspiring backdrop for 600 participants of the BOH Eco Trail 2016. We've got our trail shoes on by Reebok! Of course, Lucozade was a must-have item for our run.

At the flag off for the Run, Ms Caroline Russell, CEO of BOH Plantations said, “Many of us are not aware of this special forest with its unique flora and fauna, just off the Elite Highway."

Set amidst acres of tea bushes interspersed with tall coconut and oil palm trees, participants of the 8km charity Run had the unique opportunity of running through BOH’s Tea Garden which is rarely open to public.

And the views are too pretty to ignore. We’ve just have to take lots of break to snap some selfies along the way!

The key highlight was certainly the privileged access given to us into a restricted section of the adjacent Kuala Langat North Forest Reserve (KLNFR).

All the proceeds of the run will be donated towards the Peatland Forest Ranger Programme.

Would you say no to fresh young coconut drink? Nobody said no to these coconut, which were plucked from the BOH coconut plantation within the land itself. Lovely!

It was really a pleasant run. What made it more special - all proceeds from the registration fees for BOH Eco Trail 2016, totalling RM 28,000 were channelled to the Global Environment Centre (GEC), a regional non-profit organisation committed to work on environmental issues of global importance.

As part of the highlights during the run, we were treated to a showcase of Orang Asli performance. Handicrafts made from kulit kayu terap were also in display and for sale. All these items are made using wood and other materials sourced within KLFNR.

We hope BOH will continue to organise trail runs in their plantation! Thank you for opening your doors to us runners to help create awareness about the environment!

Perfect Dates For Ramadhan

In observing the Holy Month of Ramadhan, Malaysia’s leading premium fresh juice supplier, Juice Works, has launched its brand new Fresh Dates Shake available at all 25 kioks.

This delightfully refreshing shake is chockful of nutrition to make it the perfect pick-me-up for Buka Puasa. After all, dates have long been a traditional staple served on dining tables across the world for families, friends and associates to enjoy together after a day of fasting during this holy month.

These precious fruits are harvested from palm trees under the Arecaceae family, botanically named as Phoenix dactylifera. Believed to have originated from the fertile riverbanks of the Nile and Euphrates in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, dates have been harvested for many years by nomadic tribes and are now grown commercially for a worldwide market.

“These delicious dates taste incredible when blended together with fresh apple and orange juice and our popular low fat berries yoghurt to make it a very nutritious drink that is ideal for breaking fast,” explains Juice Works Malaysia Director Ling Mooi Li.

“We are excited about introducing this delicious drink in conjunction with the holy month of Ramadhan and this drink will be available on our menu between now and July 31. We are even more excited to introduce our Buy One Free One Date Shake promotion which will run from 6pm to 8pm daily until July 7. In Malaysia, all communities have come to celebrate the breaking of fast together in a unique way that is truly muhibbah. We at Juice Works Malaysia hope to play a part in serving our signature nutritious and delicious drinks throughout this holy month especially with a fruit that has always been a significant part of breaking fast.”

Dates Shake is a made-to-order concoction that is sensational with the natural sweetness of specially selected imported Honey Dates combined with freshly squeezed apple and orange juice to add a scintillating touch. Yoghurt, enhanced with antioxidant-rich berries, adds a lovely creaminess to the refreshing shake.

Dates have long enjoyed a reputation as fruits that taste as delicious as they are nutritious. They aid in constipation and soothe intestinal discomfort and diarrhea. Dates are also rich with essential vitamins and minerals including calcium, sulphur, potassium and magnesium, and are also a source of dietary fibre to help promote a comfortable passage of food through the intestinal tract.

What makes dates such an ideal companion especially after a day of fasting is in its ability to aid recovery. Many Muslims break fast by consuming dates, which helps them avoid incidences of overeating following a fast. As the body absorbs the rich nutrition offered by dates, it also helps to satiate hunger. Dates also help to regulate the digestive process, which is crucial after a fast. Additionally, dates boost energy levels well within an hour, as they are rich with natural sugar like fructose and glucose.

Aside from Dates Shake, Juice Works Malaysia offers over 30 choices led by the perennially popular Detox Juices range that includes carefully concocted drinks designed to support dietary goals, boost immune systems, soothe upset tummies or cleanse internal organs. The Berry Lovers range which blends zesty berries with low fat yoghurts and other energising fruits is also a favourite alongside Tropical Paradise which holds the key to a rich repertoire of the exotic delights of sunny regions such as dragon fruits, lychee, jackfruits, mangoes and melons.

Whether in need of a health supplement, a dietary support, or just the thrill of a chilled fresh drink on a sunny day, Juice Works Malaysia offers the finest natural ingredients to create that perfect drink.
