Conquer the 4th Tallest Building in Malaysia with the Inaugural Yayasan TM International Tower Run 2019



Do you want to test your endurance by conquering a renowned landmark in Kuala Lumpur? Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) via its foundation, Yayasan Telekom Malaysia (YTM) will be organising a charity event – Yayasan TM International Tower Run 2019 in conjunction with YTM’s 25th Anniversary celebration. 

This inaugural event, which will be co-organised with JomRun Sdn Bhd is the first-ever Individual Flag Off Towerrunning Event in Malaysia! The run is open to all Malaysians and international participants with ages of 18 years old above and will take place on Sunday, 10 November 2019 at Menara TM, Kuala Lumpur.

In appreciation of their support and contributions for the tower run, TM today held a press conference to unveil the sponsors line-up. The press conference was attended by Mohd Farid Shah Mohd Basir, Chief Human Capital Officer, TM who is also a Trustee of YTM and Abdul Hamid Hashim, Director of YTM. Soh Wai Ching, the World’s No. 2 and Asia’s No. 1 Tower Runner also made an appearance at the session.

Commenting on the upcoming event, Mohd Farid said: “We are excited to organise this inaugural event as an activity to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of our YTM. True to YTM’s aspiration of assisting deserving students in education advancement, this event is aimed at raising funds for YTM Education Fund through participation fees, corporate sponsorship as well as individual contributions. We are very glad and thankful to the sponsors who have come forth and lend their support in making this event a success while at the same time contribute to the fund. The funds will be used to help less fortunate, deserving students to overcome their financial setbacks towards improving their academic performance, befitting YTM as well as TM’s nation-building role in establishing workforce ready to empower Digital Malaysia.”

Malaysian Airlines (MAS) is the Official Airlines for the Yayasan TM International Tower Run 2019. Other major sponsors for this event are REV Malaysia, unifi, Domino’s Pizza Malaysia, Potatoes USA, California Raisins and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). Adding on more excitement, MAS is offering 15% discount on ticket fares to worldwide destinations where buyers just need to key in the promo code “YTMMAB15” to enjoy the discount promotion.

Yayasan TM International Tower Run 2019 offers participants with 200m elevation climb up 1,296 steps in six (6) categories – Men’s Open (aged 18 years and above), Women’s Open (aged 18 and above), Men’s Veteran (aged 40 years and above), Women’s Veteran (aged 40 years and above), TM staff Men and TM staff Women. All runners will be flagged off individually with a time interval of five (5) seconds while for the elite runners, the time interval will be 15 seconds.

To date, a total of 1,100 entries have been received with at least 40 runners from all around the world including Australia, Denmark, Germany, India, Indonesia, Taiwan, China, Nepal, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Ukraine, United Kingdom and USA are set to join this elite league.

In its first edition, Yayasan TM International Tower Run 2019 already makes its mark with the event being sanctioned by Towerrunning World Association (TWA) and Malaysia Towerrunning Association (MTA) in ensuring all safety and technical aspects successfully implemented.


MTA is the brainchild of Soh Wai Ching, a University Malaya Sports Science graduate; and currently the World’s No. 2 Towerrunner. Towerrunning is an extremely affordable and efficient exercise and sport. MTA serves as the National Body for towerruning that sets the rules and regulations, promotes this highly rewarding sport and hopes to build a sizeable towerruning community.

Ravinder Singh, Vice President, MTA said as an athletic club, MTA was pleased to have corporations such as Yayasan TM sharing its passion for Tower Running events. “The staircase running — or tower running as it is more commonly known is very popular amongst international elite runners. Our hope is that the event will inspire more to take up the exercise/sport and live a healthy and active lifestyle,” added the 53-year old veteran, a tower runner enthusiast himself.

Top five (5) winners in each category of the Yayasan TM International Tower Run 2019 will receive cash prizes. The first place winners will walk away with RM800 followed by RM600 (second), RM400 (third), RM300 (fourth) and RM200 (fifth).

Each participant will be entitled to an ULTRON Dri-Fit t-shirt, goodie bag, race bib with timing chip, finisher medal, e-certificate, insurance and other goods from the sponsors.
