Media Release: Get Faster, Better and Strionger with Standard Chartered KL Marathon Running Clinics

Kuala Lumpur, 15 June 2015 – With registrations secured and calendars cleared for the 4th of October, all focus will now be on achieving personal goals when running the race.

For runners upgrading their distances, preparation is crucial as one needs to get physically and mentally ready for the challenge, while those looking to achieve a new personal best will need to build up their physical and mental endurance as well as their muscles for the task.

To help runners prepare for the road ahead, Race Owner and Organiser, Dirigo Events will be conducting a series of running clinics at various locations in the Klang Valley.

The running clinics are serialised into 14 sessions (8 general sessions and 6 specialised sessions) organised on selected Sunday mornings across 4 months under the supervision of Mark Williams, the official coach for Standard Chartered KL Marathon. Each session is differentiated -- designed to get beginner, intermediate and advanced runners prepared for the Standard Chartered KL Marathon.

As Mark William advises all runners planning to participate in the clinics, “Whether this is your first ever race or you’re already a veteran of many Marathons, the structure and topics of these clinics have been designed to give relevant information, training tips and guidelines for every participant to get the most out of their efforts. We urge them to come along, listen, learn, and share the knowledge with their friends and family!”

Director of Dirigo Events Sdn. Bhd. and Standard Chartered KL Marathon owner and organiser, Rainer Biemans sees it as part and parcel of a great race experience, “Our role as race organisers goes beyond planning the routes and delivering the logistics. It is also our responsibility in getting runners trained properly and safely. The training journey can be challenging and long, but we will be helping runners along every step of the way. The running clinics are more than just a platform for training; they are platforms to form new friendships, discover new ideas, and find encouragement to go further. This is also in line with our title sponsor, Standard Chartered Bank’s brand values.”

Dirigo Events Sdn. Bhd. together with adidas will also be using the running clinics to spot and nurture talented potential runners. The running clinics are part of SCKLM organisers’ commitment to grow the sport as well as a platform for community building.

Corporations who are interested to partake in the Standard Chartered KL Marathon are encouraged to join the Corporate Challenge, a competitive and fun platform for organisations to register and compete as a corporate team and raise money for the beneficiaries. It is not only a great way to foster camaraderie and team spirit in the office, but also acts as an initiative to encourage healthy lifestyles amongst the workforce.

Further to the initiatives, the “Run For A Cause” programme aims to raise funds and awareness for the beneficiaries in the Standard Chartered KL Marathon. This year, the four participating beneficiaries are Standard Chartered Foundation, Hospis Malaysia, National Cancer Society Malaysia and EcoKnights.

Media Release: The Chicken Rice Shop Celebrates 15th Year by Giving Back with Chick-A-Thon

KUALA LUMPUR, June 2, 2015 – For the hundreds who gathered for a fun day out with family and friends, while helping to make children’s wishes come true, the first walk-cum-treasure hunt by home-grown halal family restaurant chain The Chicken Rice Shop (TCRS) was everything it set out to be.

Held amidst the lush backdrop of Lake Gardens (or Perdana Botanical Gardens), the TCRS Chick-A-Thon and carnival was organised in conjunction with the brand’s 15th anniversary.

Wong Kah Lin, CEO of TCRS Restaurants Sdn Bhd, said “The Chick-A-Thon gives us a great opportunity to bring families together as part of our anniversary celebrations which is all about giving back. With so many people with hectic lifestyles, it is important to make time for those nearest and dearest to us, so why not an event that gets you outdoors, is healthy and where you stand to win cash and more!”

A video posted by runwitme (@runwitme) on

The day started with an aerobic session to get everyone warmed up for the 2.5km walk-cum-treasure hunt, which was flagged off by celebrity chef Dato’ Ismail Ahmad, also TCRS ambassador. Children and adults excitedly set off through the scenic Lake Gardens, trying to complete the walkathon within the shortest timeframe and win cash prizes totalling RM10,000.

As the participants searched for images of little yellow chicks that were hidden along the green trail and answered questions, the usually quiet Lake Gardens was turned into a hive of activity.

Seeing the anniversary was an ideal occasion to give back to the community, the event also raised funds and awareness in support of the Children’s Wish Society (CWS), a not-for-profit organization that helps to fulfil the wishes of terminally-ill children across Malaysia.

Wong said, “We wanted to support a worthy cause and with CWS being family-oriented, it was an easy choice. They do wonderful work in bringing happiness to children with serious illness by looking for ways to make their wishes a reality. TCRS plans to match the total amount collected as entry fee-cum-donations from participants so we can make an even larger contribution to the Society and hopefully make more wishes come true.”

A video posted by runwitme (@runwitme) on

Teoh Teik Hoong, Vice President of CWS Malaysia, said the organisation was proud to be a partner of the Chick-A-Thon. “This partnership helps raise much-needed funds for the society's efforts to fulfil wishes of children stricken with terminal illnesses across the country. Every wish fulfilled is another smile from these ailing children.”

He added that the funds raised would be channelled towards fulfilling wishes CWS Malaysia has received from children around the country. “It may be a little girl suffering from cancer who wants a soft teddy bear, a wheelchair-bound teenage boy suffering from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy who needs an iPad to keep him entertained, or a young boy suffering from liver failure who wishes to travel somewhere with his family. On behalf of the society, we would like to thank TCRS and members of the public who have stepped forward to help us fulfil more wishes.”

The TCRS Chick-a-Thon also gave away 10 smartphones as consolation prizes, with one lucky participant walking away with a 60-inch LED TV for winning the best-dressed traditional costume contest.

In the spirit of ‘makan together’, participants at the end of the walkathon also received complimentary halal Hainanese chicken rice, one of the most popular dishes at TCRS. Wong added, “As a family restaurant, we believe in the goodness of a meal to strengthen family ties. We are grateful to have had so much loyal support from our customers over the last 15 years and we are glad to be able to show our appreciation.”

To top it off, there were a variety of booths with activities like Golf, Roller Ball, Ring Toss, Balloon Dart, Shot Target and Can Toss. Participants were also spoilt for choice when it came to food and beverages offered by event sponsors including Farm’s Best, Permanis, Wall’s and Milo. Touch n’ Go also set up a booth offering customized versions of Touch n’ Go cards using personal photos or other images, and reloading of cards.

Founded in 2008, CWS has brought smiles to children and their families nationwide by fulfilling more than 450 wishes. Whether a trip to Universal Studio Singapore or the Lost World of Tambun in Perak, an iPad or a game console, and even a ride in a Lamborghini, CWS has made it their mission to reach out to as many children as possible.

The Chick-A-Thon fun continues from May 31 – June 6, 2015, as participants will be able to enjoy a 2-piece Nyonya Pai Tee side dish for free when dining at TCRS outlets. Simply post pictures taken during the TCRS Chick-A-Thon on Facebook using the hashtag #tcrschickathon2015, and show a TCRS employee proof of the post to be entitled to the complimentary side dish. Terms and conditions apply.

Runwitme Says: The River Jungle Marathon is a boutique 42km (Full Marathon) event in which the “no cut off time” had encouraged a lot of “full marathon virgins” to take on a full marathon distance challenge. But we think you should train for it seriously even though there is no cut off time. At least have your own personal target time, 6 hours is do-able. No point of finishing a marathon in 9 hours while you suffer under the hot sun. :)

The Salomon X-Scream 3D CityTrail Shoe Launch at KLCC Park

KLCC Park has always been a favourite place for us to run. Beautiful KL skyline. Dedicated running path. Right smack in the city.

It is a perfect place to try out the latest multitasking shoes from Salomon - X-Scream 3D CityTrail which is designed urban runs that involve both tarmac road and easy trails.

The trail was organised by World of Sports Malaysia in conjunction with the launch of the shoe. About 30 of us, bloggers and representative from the media were invited to try out the shoe in a run around the park.

Offering a dynamic and cushioned ride, the Salomon X-Scream 3D is an agile CITYTRAIL™ shoe that injects mountain spirit (which Salomon is famous far) into running in an urban landscape.

Just like the other shoes in Salomon stable, X-Scream 3D is equipped with the Quicklace™ system. Quicklace™ is a single Kevlar® string fed through friction-free eyelets. As you pull, the lace closes evenly. Lock in place with the stopper and stow Everything in the lace pocket. Fast, light, comfortable and won´t loosen while you run.Just click the video below for a demo on how quick it is to lace up your shoe.

A video posted by runwitme (@runwitme) on

As you can see, the lace can be tucked neatly into the pocket flap on top of the shoe tongue. So, say bye bye to flapping shoe laces that can get undone easily during your run.

Apart from Quicklace™, the shoe also features

Contagrip®
Contagrip® is a mix between density, Compound and geometry to optimize grip and durability for each surface or activity. A race proven technology.

SensiFit™
Sensifit™ cradles the foot from the midsole to the lace system, providing a stable, precise, snug fit all around the system. Moulded into the shoe, reducing weight and brings more comfort.

After a quick warm up session by Salomon Ambassador, Raymond Ng, we are off to "explore" the KLCC Park with our new shoes. Click video to play.

Off we go covering various surfaces like city pavement, rubberised jogging track, grass, stairs etc while enjoying the beautiful city-scape around the Petronas Twin Tower.

We like the breathable mesh upper that provides an adaptive fit, while the dual density midsole provides an optimal amount of underfoot cushioning.

Just like its predecessor, the Salomon X-Scream, the X-Scream 3D features multidirectional lugs on the outsole allow you to traverse over a variety of surfaces, with a thin TPU film layer in the forefoot for additional stability.

If you are looking for a minimalist trail shoe, this is not for you. The Salomon X-Scream 3D CityTrail running shoe has many features and packed with technologies to make your run more comfortable and enjoyable.

Yup! It's an all rounder shoes for the city boy and girls out there. Whether you're running over dirt and gravel or exploring the urban streets, this shoe makes an excellent companion. Check out the video.

Media Release: MILO® Innovates and Fuels Malaysian Youth with NUTRI G™

Kuala Lumpur, 28 May 2015 – Malaysians, today, witness the evolution of MILO® with a new invention, MILO® Nutri G™ that is specially formulated to unleash sustainable energy to fuel Malaysians to go further. Malaysia is the first country in the world to introduce MILO® Nutri G™.

MILO® Nutri G™ (Nutri stands for Nutritious and G stands for Grains) is the first product globally to have a unique mix of four (4) different whole grains – brown rice, wheat, oats, and barley while maintaining its recognizable delicious chocolate malt taste. The latest R&D ensures it meets the dietary requirements of young adults who are unable to eat at regular times and left often with little choice but to settle for convenience over nutritional value.

Jasmmine Wong, Business Executive Manager of Nestlé Liquid Drinks: “MILO® Nutri G™ is not simply another repackaged MILO® drink. We believe that as the leading chocolate malt beverage in the world, we must first understand the societal shifts in what drives customers before we can deliver what they truly need. This is why we place high importance on this innovation.”

A video posted by runwitme (@runwitme) on

According to a 2014 survey carried out among the Malaysian workforce, 67% of Malaysians prefer to have a work-life balance to a higher salary and 37% across Asia Pacific will give up a pay raise to perform more social-relevant work. However, irregular work hours, longer transit duration, fragmented mealtimes are common scenarios that young Malaysians go through daily. The pressure to accomplish daily tasks and beat the clock tends to result in unwise food consumption decisions. Not only does nutrition takes a back seat, they may feel less energized physically and emotionally to pursue their passion outside their routines.

“We believe in nourishing ambitions. We want to fuel youth to push their boundaries and be reminded that the sky is beyond the limit to get more out of life. To nourish dreams, we must nourish the body first,” Jasmmine explains. “We should not compromise on nutrition and energy requirements just because we are on the go. All four wholesome grains, vitamins, minerals are extremely beneficial for healthy living and the grain combination acts as an excellent source of energy. We can get filled up, stay active and go further every day.”

A video posted by runwitme (@runwitme) on

The nation sees a high rate of inspiring young Malaysians who pursue their passion and dreams and balance their work life with vigor and enthusiasm, which is the reason Malaysia was chosen to be the first to introduce MILO® Nutri G™ to the world.

National swimmer Khoo Cai Lin, and winner of the Young Creative Entrepreneur Media Award, Fariz Hanapiah, business analyst, Shidah Mohd, and senior analyst, Fuad Alhabsi are some of the true testaments of individuals that embody the essence of MILO® Nutri G™. All of them pursue their passions beyond their 9-to-5 jobs. As part of the campaign, they will be sharing their champion stories and journeys of staying hungry to achieve bigger things in life.

“I follow a personal motto; possess the right values and attitude and we will see successful dreams. We are all champions within and it is important to have the mindset of never giving up and to stay true to your beliefs,” says Khoo Cai Lin.

A video posted by runwitme (@runwitme) on

“More youth are active in recreational or sports activities so it is important that they maintain a good energy level. Adequate nutrition raises productivity levels by 20 percent, so what young adults eat affects their daily performance,” says Cher Siew Wei, Nestle Wellness Manager. “The substantial goodness in MILO® Nutri G™ will keep hunger pangs at bay.”

“We are so very proud to introduce an innovation that elevates us towards a new chapter in MILO®‘s evolution history. Today sets a new benchmark for us and more importantly, we get to deliver a 100%-Malaysia-tailored MILO® Nutri G™, best served chilled – with the goodness of wholegrain energy, taste, nutrition, to a fulfilling beverage that is just right for our tropical weather,” concludes Jasmmine.

MILO® Nutri G™ comes in 190ml ready-to-drink convenient-sized bottle and is available in all 7-Eleven stores, petrol marts, supermarkets, and hypermarkets.
