Media Release: Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore 2015’s Mobile Application Goes Live Today

12 August 2015, Singapore – For the very first time, runners at the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore SCMS) 2015 can prepare for the nation’s largest annual mass participation event with the help of an interactive SCMS 2015 mobile application.

Once downloaded on smart phones, the application, designed by the Marathon’s Official IT Consultancy TCS can immediately become a runner’s dependable personal coach through its unique training functionality that offers a 16-week customisable fitness plan, which begins on 17 August, leading up to the marathon on 6 December.

The interval training-based programme, designed by professional coaches from Official Fitness Partner: Journey Fitness Company, will alternate between short bursts of fast runs and slower, longer jogs interspersed with resting periods, which will boost an individual’s distance running capabilities and capacity.

Training programmes on the application can be personalised according to each participant’s running experience, goals for the race, and commitment to train. Their training experience will also be enhanced through a series of unique user-friendly features that come with the application such as a GPS map for each session, audio cues to keep runners focused and real time analysis of the performance of each run. The ‘Live Tracking feature will also be included in this year’s app prior to event day, giving family and friends the chance to follow and support each participant live on race day.

Chris Robb, CEO of Spectrum Worldwide, SCMS 2015 Event Organiser, commented: “The all-new SCMS2015 mobile app is very exciting, and is now able to take on the role of a training companion and sit side-by-side with the participants on this memorable journey. The real time access to training data also gives runners the opportunity to train like a pro and pace their practice runs. We strongly believe that the unique features will improve the marathon experience, and make the app a massive hit among participants.”

The app works seamlessly across most social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, which allows for easy collaboration and interaction with fellow runners and running communities. Runners can also record the details of their training and track their progress to share with their friends on Facebook, making it one of the most fun, interactive and personable smart phone apps in marathon running.

In addition to the features as a training programme and a fitness coach, the app will also contain auxiliary information like the latest event news, weather data and FAQs which will be useful to runners when scheduling their training sessions, allowing them to stay up to date with the latest developments.

Interview with Usain Bolt on Ignite XT

PUMA has launched its second major Forever Faster brand campaign through a multi-million euro media investment with a dedicated focus on Training. Offering up the question “What are you training for?” the global sports brand challenges individuals and teams to put more energy into training and more positivity back into sport.

PUMA’s take on training is that it’s not an end goal but rather a means to a more positive self and a stronger game. The more energy you put in, the more you get back. PUMA Training swaps excuses for endorphins and aims to be faster, stronger, fiercer. No matter what.

Bringing the campaign to life are the unique training stories documented on film of PUMA’s elite ambassadors – World’s Fastest Man Usain Bolt

How do you train for speed? Any specific tips for training to become faster?
USAIN BOLT: There are many things that help someone run faster – conditioning, strength, speed, power, technique etc. It is not just one factor. You have to train in a variety of ways and cover all the aspects.

What’s a typical training session for you?
UB: There isn’t really a typical session – training for me is either on the track or in the gym. It depends on the time of year and what we are working on. On the track it can be working on everything from endurance to any technical aspect of my race – the start, the drive phase, the transition for both the 100m and 200m. In the gym it’s general conditioning, strength and power.

How often do you train in a year?
UB: I train for 11 months of the year, six days a week. Normally in the morning and then again in the afternoon. It’s a lot of work.

What does training do for you other than the physical abilities?
UB: Training gives you confidence and this helps your state of mind. I know if I’m in good shape it’s going to be very hard to beat me, this confidence is very important in performing well.

What kind of obstacles have you faced and overcame to achieve your goals?
UB: In elite sport injury is always the thing that can slow you down. We push our bodies to the max and sometimes we get a sore or injured muscle or joints. I had several injuries in my career but fortunately I have a good coach and team to help me get back to the top.

Any particular food and drink that help you when you’re
training? Are you still liking chicken nuggets?
UB: I have a good diet now, I have a chef who helps me eat well. A lot of chicken, rice, vegetables. Good Jamaican food. It is also important to be well hydrated.

What’s your advice for someone who’s struggling to find motivation to reach their goals?
UB: You have to find that one thing that you know is going to motivate you. You might not enjoy training for example but you have to love competing and winning. If you want these things you have to be determined and train hard.

Has training changed a lot for you in the past few years?
UB: When I started running as a kid, it was fun – I was good at it so I just did it. I didn’t really have to train that much to win races. As I got older I realized that I have to take better care of my body. Now diet, rest, recovery etc. is more important that a few years ago.

What’s your single-most greatest goal ever?
UB: Well, my single greatest goal is to become the greatest, pretty much. That's what I work towards. I want to be remembered as a great sportsman, to have a place in history.

Which other athlete inspires your to become better?
UB: I have always admired Kevin Garnett as he is a player that whether winning or losing he gives his all and inspires those around him to raise their game.

Also my mentor and coach Glen Mills. He used to tell me, “Everybody on the circuit, everybody at the Championships are talented athletes already. It’s the work you put in that makes you a champion, or better that the other talented person.”

IRONMAN Asia-Pacific today announced that IRONMAN® Malaysia Langkawi will double as the Asian TriClub Invitational.

“The TriClub Invitational shows our commitment to providing a special experience for the clubs within Asia. We want them to come to Langkawi and find out who is Asia’s top TriClub,” IRONMAN Malaysia Langkawi Race Director CG Lim said.

Tanakorn Cheeptumrong, co-founder of Thailand’s 02Max Tri club, has welcomed the Tri Club Invitational.

“We will have five to ten athletes at IRONMAN Malaysia Langkawi, and I’ll be encouraging as many of our athletes as possible to get involved,” he said. “Triathlon in South East Asia is growing quickly, and programs like the TriClub Invitational are a great way to encourage athletes to race with their friends and teammates and to do what they love.”

Registered clubs will fight it out for a number of great prizes, in a number of different categories.

They will include;
· TriClub Participation Award – The Club with most athletes registered on race day.

· Most Supportive TriClub Award – The club that makes the most noise, dresses up and has the best support crew for their club in the TriClub Tent Village on race day.

· Fastest Local Award – Each Malaysian club will have their fastest male and female member’s times combined. The Malaysian club with the fastest cumulative time will be the winner.
IRONMAN Malaysia Langkawi will also feature a TriClub Tent village. The village will be located in the heart of the action near the finish at Meritus Pelangi Beach and Resort.

“This is a great initiative from IRONMAN Asia Pacific, clubs in South East Asia are becoming bigger and bigger,” Cheetumrong said.

All athletes entered in the TriClub Invitational will receive a Limited Edition Official 2015 TriClub Invitational Cap.

These unique TriClub Invitational Caps are not for sale and will only be available only to official TriClub Invitational registered athletes.
