Jalan Punchak, Kuala Lumpur – For the first time ever, the prestigious “KL Tower International Sunrise Towerthon Challenge 2013” was held on May 19, 2013 as early as 5.00 am, before and at sunrise. It was being held in conjunction with the World Youth Day, which is celebrated in the month of May annually.
The tower challenge is co-organised with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall and Visit KL.
Over 3,200 local and foreign participants had to run 800m before climbing 2,058 stairs to finish at Mega View Banquet Hall located 200m above sea level.
“Since it was first held in 2008, this event has received a lot of participations from the local as well as the international marathon runners who want to test their mental and physical strengths in conquering the top of this skyscraper,” said the honourable Dato’ Zuraidah Hj Mohd Said, Chief Executive Officer of Menara Kuala Lumpur.
“This year, the event will be more challenging for the participants as there will be a difference, whereby the tower challenge will kick off at the wee hour and ends at sunrise. Indeed it will pose more challenge and the participants will be more excited,” she added.
