Notice: New Pantai Highway (NPE) To Close For adidas ‘KING OF THE ROAD

KUALA LUMPUR, 8TH August 2012 – Come 9th September, Malaysians throughout the nation will unite for the year’s most highly anticipated regional run organized by adidas Malaysia titled the adidas ‘King Of The Road’ (KOTR) 2012. The KOTR Run will take place on a 16.8KM and 10 KM stretch across the New Pantai Highway (NPE) starting and ending at the Sunway Pyramid Shopping Centre.

We can expect 10,000 (vs last year's 7700) runners blazing the NPE Highway for the adidas King Of The Road 2012. :)

adidas Malaysia together with the New Pantai Highway (NPE) will be working closely with the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) and Royal Malaysia Police Force (PDRM) from Petaling Jaya, Subang and Kuala Lumpur districts to effectively close off approximately 50 junctions to ensure a smooth and safe run for the participants. The highway will be officially closed to motorists starting from KM0.3 of NPE Highway at Subang Jaya all the way towards Pantai Dalam, Kuala Lumpur in both directions. During the KOTR run, the NPE Traffic Team and the police force will also patrol these areas to further ensure the safety of the runners.

Preparations are underway by the concessionaire New Pantai Expressway Sdn Bhd to alleviate traffic woes as motorists are diverted to other routes. The NPE Highway traffic closures begin from 3.00 am. However, traffic will reopen in full by 11.00 am. All this will happen only on the morning of Sunday, 9th September, 2012.

In a joint statement issued today, adidas Malaysia said, “Alternative routes have been planned for the traffic diversions to facilitate the mobility of the local communities along the NPE Highway. We are working closely with the highway concessionaire and joint-sponsor, as well as with the support from Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) and the Traffic Division of the Royal Malaysia Police Force (PDRM) to ensure smooth traffic flow.”

Photos: Adidas King Of The Road Race Kit Collection

10,000 runners will be blazing the NPE Highway for the adidas King Of The Road 2012 race this Sunday 9th September. Are you one of them? If yes, have you collected your racekit?

The collection is taking place the 6th, 7th and 8th of September between 10am and 8pm at the Main Concourse in Sunway Pyramid.

We visited the race kit collection yesterday and everything seemed very orderly and efficient!

The multicoloured running vests are released in batches. Runners who wish to get their favourite colours would have to follow adidas Facebook or Twitter closely for the release update.

I guess that explains why the queue is not as long as last year's. Everyone is waiting for his or her favourite coloured vest to be released, LOL!

Apart from the racekit collection, there is also a mini race expo featuring all things adidas. Get your adidas running gear here as they are offering some special promotions.

Shoes. Shoes. Shoes.

Need a new watch to keep track of your personal best performance?

Maybe one of these babies is what you need.

If you like to listen to music when you go for a run like me, make sure that you try out the adidas Seinheiser earphones.

I got myself a pair not too long ago. Check out the review of the Sennheiser Adidas MX 680 Sports Earphones HERE.

The future is so bright that you've got to wear shades?

Personal hygiene is very important for everyone. Make sure you don't smell like rotten cabbage or dead fish after your run. Arm yourself with adidas deodorant and other grooming essentials.

These are not adidas but we are pretty sure you need them for your long runs... :) Grab them at special promo prices here.

So, what do you get in the KOTR mesh sling bag?

A vest, a bottle of deodorant (no excuse for not smelling good on race day), a piece of Powerbar (for 16.8km runners only), race day guide and a Deep Heat sample.

Are you ready to be the King of The Road? :)

Invitation: The Coca-Cola Company - Talk on Exercise and Obesity feat Kevin Zahri

Malaysians love to eat but mostly hate to exercise, then blame everything else for the rise in obesity. But are soft drinks and hawker food really to blame for almost one in two Malaysians becoming overweight or obese?

If you’d like to indulge without the bulge, come and learn how to do so while getting any questions you have answered about obesity, food and a healthy lifestyle by Dr. Maxime Buyckx, the director of Nutrition and Health Sciences at The Coca-Cola Company’s Beverage Institute for Health & Wellness.

Dr. Buyckx will be in Malaysia to speak on the importance of a balanced diet, hydration, the role that sugar plays and energy balance. He will also address issues and myths on obesity, as well as how it requires the collective efforts of everyone to solve, from individuals to companies.

Also present will be Kevin Zahri, one of Malaysia's most sought after health and fitness speakers, who will be sharing a fun, interactive and engaging session.

The talk will be held at the Sri KDU Secondary School hall at 3.00 – 5.30 p.m. on Sunday 9 September. Open to the first 100 registered participants only. Refreshments and a light meal will be served after the talk.

To register, please RSVP by 5 September by sending an email with the subject matter titled “Sri KDU talk” to mail@westcoast.my

10 Tips To Become an Eco-friendly Runner

Nobody wants to run in a dirty and polluted place. Let’s do our parts in making this world a greener place to run.

1) Do not litter. Throw empty cups, used water bottles or empty energy gel packs into rubbish bin.

2) Donate your old running shoes to charity. Even though the pair might have worn out for road races, they could be still suitable for walking or day-to-day wear.

3) Car pool to your next race. You will reduce your carbon footprint and share your race stories with your friends.

4) Run an errand, literally. Reduce CO2 emission which contributes to global warming by running or biking your errands. You will save money on petrol and burns some excess fats in the process. If you have to drive, park in a central location and walk to the bank, shopping mall and post office.

5) BYOB: Bring your own bag to collect your race kit especially when you are collecting for a group of friends. Reduce the use of plastic bags.

6) Reduce the consumption of bottled drinks during your run. Stay hydrated with a fluid belt or run with re-usable bottles/ bladders. Plastic bottles don’t decompose and they will be around for a long time.

7) Register your race online. This will reduce paper usage and skip a trip to the registration office.

8) Hand wash your sweat-soaked running clothes with cold water and hang dry. Your apparels will last longer and you’ll save energy.

9) Support green running races/ walking events that promote eco-friendly lifestyle eg. Larian Kitar Semula, Orang Asli Trail Run etc.

10) Consider “green” running shoes with MoGo midsoles. Brooks shoes have midsoles made of MoGo material that degrades faster in the landfill. It takes only 20 years to biodegrade versus the conventional petroleum based material which requires 1,000 years to degrade.

Click HERE to find got more about how you can trade in your old running shoes with a RM150 rebate for a pair of Brooks running shoes with MoGo technology.

We would love to hear from you on how you keep your running lifestyle green. Do share how we could make this Earth a greener place by leaving your comments and tips at http://facebook.com/celebrunner

Photos: adidas Breathe and Stop Tour @ The Stage, Kuala Lumpur

What a night it was! Thank you adidas for inviting us to one of the most happening parties in South East Asia!

3 of the world's most legendary hip hop DJs (flown in direct from USA), 3 All Star Dance Crews, 5 of Asia’s most vibrant cities and 1 revolutionary concept where the DJs, dancers and audience are brought together as one!

The 'Breathe And Stop' Tour featured 3 of Hip Hop's most legendary DJ's - DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad from A Tribe Called Quest, DJ Maseo of De La Soul and DJ Shortkut from Beat Junkies spinning the sickest beats and dropping the music in 'originals' style.

DJ Maseo (De La Soul) started the record spinning for the night!

We love the stunning back drop that lit up with digital arts as the music pumped across the dance hall.

Notice that the DJ's deck looks like a huge adidas originals shoe box. :)

The hall was packed!

DJ Maseo handed over the deck to DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest/Lucy Pearl) for the second set.

But DJ Maseo didn't leave the stage. He spewed rap over some of the tracks much to the crowd's delight!

The final DJ to spin was DJ Shortkut (Beat Junkies/I.S.P/Triple Threat) from NYC.

By far, this the coolest party that we have ever attended this year! Too bad we can't break dance like this dude, otherwise we would have set the dance floor on fire! LOL!

Check out the video where Maseo of De La Soul (and Malaysia) sang Happy Birthday to Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest) (Born 11 Aug 1970)
