Running with Cassette

Remember these?

Those born in the 1990’s probably do not know what they are! These are cassettes; one of the media music was played in the past before the existence of the shiny disc called compact discs (CD).

These are some of favourites in my collections of now “useless” cassettes. They probably won’t play anymore because of the oxidation of the tapes. The only artiste that has remained active in the chart from the heap is probably only Madonna.

Cassette is OK for short run or walk in the park. I do not go long distance in it simply the player is too heavy and bounce with each stride. CD player is even worse; you can’t even run using them because of skipping of the disc.

My very first original cassette that I bought:- Bon Jovi, New Jersey that contains hits like Bad Medicine.

The second one, if I am not mistaken is Madonna’s Like A Prayer CD. It came with a poster and the sleeve of the cassette smelled nice!

One of my local favourites – Sheila Majid (The Best Of) which featured the souped up verson of Sinaran & English version of Antara Anyir & Jakarta called September Shares. I can’t find these versions anymore!

Aishah & The Fan Club (Respect The Beat)

Some of the not so original cassettes in my collections. Before the record companies brought in original cassettes from the West, we got the music in the pirated compilations like these.

Of course the song selections were excellent! Value for money too. And it comes with a different kind of casing...They even came out with “official” Grammy Awards compilations way before the originals!

Now, you don’t get this stuff anymore. You don’t even need a physical medium for music nowadays. Everything is digitally copied.

I am glad that technology has shrunken music player into small, light and with better sounds too. No more tapes get “eaten” into the rollers. No more alcohol head cleaner. No more hissing sounds.

I do not know what am I gonna do with my hundreds of cassettes....which are now collecting dusts. Probably one day I could sell them to the antique dealers.

Who Will Win the World Cup?

Hahah! I think I would be the worst person to ask this question. I don't really follow the football shiz. I am into running but not into watching people running after a ball.

But I do like to listen to the theme songs. So, I am going to get creative and write about the songs from the World Cup instead.

I think the winner is going to be the music fans too because we get fantastic world class international artiste to contribute sing-along songs each time we have the World Cup.

1998

The official song for the event was La Copa de la Vida by hip-shaking Ricky Martin, and the official anthem was La Cour des Grands by Youssou N'Dour and Axelle Red.

The song by Ricky Martin is one of the best World Cup song! It hit the #1 spot around the world! I think almost everybody know how to sing it. Do you? Ale! Ale! Ale!

2002 In 2002 we get the lesser known "Boom" by Anastacia while the "Official Anthem of the 2002 FIFA World Cup" - Vangelis. I am a fan of Anastasia but I don't really quite like the song! So, not much to wite about there.

2006

"The Time of Our Lives" - Il Divo and Toni Braxton was the highlight of 2006 World Cup. "Hips Don't Lie" (Bamboo) (2006 Fifa World Cup Mix) - Shakira featuring Wyclef Jean as well. It was a smash hit for Shakira who got the world hip-shaking again like we did in 1998 with Ricky Martin! Nobody shakes those hips like those South Americans. LOL!

2010 In 2010, Shakira is also back again (by popular demand I think) in contributing a song for the World Cup FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010 called Waka Waka!

Shakira will perform on this songs with popular South African band Freshlygroun. So who will win the World Cup in 2010? Who cares which country will win the World Cup when we already got the song to celebrate the winners already? LOL!

So, let the ball rolls and the beats go on! Waka! Waka!

Tribute to Ngae Koh Hieng

I might have not known him personally but I had definitely seen him in races. It was hard NOT to spot him! He ran barefooted and in his trademark sarong!

"The Malaysia ultra endurance sport scene lost an icon yesterday. Ngae Koh Hieng famous for his down to earth lifestyle, barefoot running, sarong, desert and ultra running, singing while racing and training, and also for his big smile on his face has passed away on 15 May 2010" - Frank Chong

The news of his passing spreaded like wildfire in the local running circle via Facebook, sms, blogs etc last Saturday. Some even dedicated yesterday's New Balance 15K run to him.

I browsed through my running videos out of boredom yesterday. I didn't go to the NB15K because my camera is still under repair....

The first video I opened was last year's New Balance 15K. There he was. Barefooted. In his trademark sarong. Mind you, it was at random! Luckily it was in the afternoon. If it was at night, I would have freak out! :)

Therefore, I decided to share this video again as a tribute to Ngae.

I am sure at one point or another, you must have seen this runner. I hope it brings great memories to those who knew him. I am sure he will be missed.

You can watch Ngae at 0.26.

Ngae Koh Hieng - In Memory 08-01-1954 -15-05-2010

Rest in Peace.

Right or Wrong: Natasha Hudson Steals Song?

I am not accusing her of anything (hence the question mark on the title above). I will let the readers be the judge. I am merely highlighting the ahem....similarities and the claims from the talented young songwriter Kimberley Chuah. :)

Natasha Hudson version "Hanya Tuhan Yang Tahu. I recorded this video during the Alibi Kosmik Konsert Jan 15 this year. Original post HERE.

Now, see the acoustic original below which was posted on Kim's Youtube page in 2008, a song which she wrote when she was 16. She claimed Natasha had performed her song without her permission.

Hahah! Love the sock that keeps popping up! LOL!

Read about the claims by the original songwriter and the English version here:

This is not the first time Natahsa had got herself landed in hot soup in the originality of her materials.

Just Google "Natasha Hudson plagiarism" and you see what I mean.

Sigh!

Relay for Life 2010

WHAT IS RELAY FOR LIFE?

It’s 16 Hours You’ll Never Forget!

The National Cancer Society of Malaysia’s Relay For Life is a high-spirited event where everyone in the community can join in the fight against cancer. It is a day filled with fun, comradeship and festivities. It is a time when people you know and people you don’t know team up to raise public awareness about cancer in the community and to raise funds to find the cure.

When? 29th & 30th MAY 2010

Where?MSN TRAINING STADIUM, BUKIT JALIL

Why?

Sparked by One Man’s Hope

Relay For Life began in 1985 in Tacoma, Washington when Dr. Gordon Klatt walked for 24 hours to raise money for the American Cancer Society. He raised $27,000 that first year. Since then, Relay For Life events around the world have raised a billion dollars to support programmes aimed at eliminating cancer.

How?

Building a Team and More

To participate in Relay For Life, you recruit friends, family, coworkers and neighbours to join you in a Relay team. In the weeks leading up to the event, each team member raises money by collecting pledges.

On Relay Day, team members take turns walking around the track to ensure that someone is on the track at all times. We don’t sleep that night because cancer never sleeps.

Celebration and Inspiration

Each Relay For Life starts with the Survivors’ Lap, a testimony to the fact that so many people today are surviving cancer. Cancer survivors from the community walk the first lap around the track to celebrate their victories while everyone else cheers them on.

The most inspirational time of Relay is the Luminaria Ceremony which happens at dusk when we honour cancer survivors and remember those who have lost their battle with the disease. A luminaria is a small bag filled with sand holding a small candle. When the candle is lit, the luminaria casts a warm, golden glow.

Each luminaria bears the name of a person who has battled cancer. All the luminarias are placed side-by-side in the in-field around the track. After sunset, all the luminarias are lit and remain lit throughout the night to light the way for the walkers and to create a path of hope.

Relay For Life is also a celebration of caregivers who also often find hope at Relay. These individuals give their time, love and support to friends, family and neighbours who face cancer. At Relay, everyone understands the challenges and joys of being a caregiver.

Walking Our Talk

Every Relay For Life is a tobacco-free event. Relay For Life also gives the National Cancer Society of Malaysia the opportunity to ‘walk our talk’ and show the community how easy it is to follow our cancer prevention guidelines.

Since I went, and lived to tell the story, I present to you a video guide on how to party with Steve Aoki! You have to survive all these....

The Arrival

The Dive

When the going gets rough, the rough goes diving!

The Pop

Note: He popped 3 bottles of Mumm champagne throught the show. He even sprayed some from his mouth!

The Squirt

The End

Click HERE to hear a newly produced track by Steve Aoki - What A Night.

I heard he drops his pants during his show too. But that's illegal in morally upright Malaysia. Heheh!

Comments are welcome.

What A Night! Steve Aoki is in the House!

Holy mutha crap! Oops! Sorry for the swearing! You would if you had just come out from a club where Steve Aoki played to almost 2,000 euphoric clubbers! Heheh!

Jumping on the DJ deck is his specialty. Diving into the crowd like a mad man too...

Camwhoring is permitted.

Steve Aoki is in the house @ Euphoria by Ministry of Sound, Sunway.

Facebook status updating? Heheh!

I must say I have never seen anything like a Steve Aoki show before. The energy was simply electrifying and raw!

OK. He's an electro dance God, but not an Ab cruncher God. Heheh!

The show was a solid 2 hours of hot, sweaty and insane thumping session on the dance floor!

Everybody wanted a piece of Aoki.

One more photo before he called it a night!

Check out the latest song from this electro son of a party rocker called "What A Night" and you wouldn't believe what he did with a dingy on the dance floor!

ENJOY!

Please click HERE for 5 more videos from the awesome night with Steve Aoki! :)

Adidas Originals Street Party 2010, Kuala Lumpur

What? Adidas Originals Street Party

Where? Norse Bar & Bistro, bbpark (in front of Low Yat Plaza)

When? 30 April 2010 (Friday) 8pm till late

Who? Amber Chia, Daphnie Iking, Alan Yun, Stephanie Chai, Ninie Ahmad, Melissa Indot, Altimet, Bittersweet, Ze! (Saerze) - those that I personally saw with my eyes but there were plenty celebs around which I didn't get to see.

How? I had to crack my head to come up with what make an awesome street party and won two free passes from JUICE. Thanks JUICE!

So, what makes an awesome street party?

Awesome party people, awesome music, awesome JUICE and of course awesome neighbours who do not call the police when the party is just about to take off at midnight! So that was my winning "slogan". Lame, eh? LOL!

I was told that the party was staged simultaneously in countries like Singapore and Indonesia, making it a grand party not to be missed!

We sure get some awesome party people there. Amber Chia, Darth Vader and the fleet from Star Wars! How cool is that?

Melissa Indot, Daphnie Iking and Stephanie Chai.

Alan Yun, one of the nicest actors I have ever encounter. :)

You have to get this blue wrist band to get in. The party was exclusive!

Awesome music? Hell yeah! Bittersweet rocked the street!

Rapper Altimet performed a few songs. I wonder how he kept cool in that Adidas jacket. I was sweating buckets. The night was hot and humid.

Watch out for the robots!.....

Sorry, I have no idea what collection was this. (p/s I dont get the press release, you see!)

It was quite hilarious watching the model robots walking up and down the stairs while trying not to tumble!

This poor boy was stuck and had to be led at some points because he couldn't see! It must have been tough catwalking under those masks and blinding spotlights!

Faceless robot models.

No eyes, no nostrils and Adidas logo at where the mouth is.

She took me by surprise! Did she steal those eyewear from Beyonce? LOL!

I have never heard of her before but she got potential!

It's like she was made by throwing Lady Gaga, Kesha, Harajuku girls, Adidas Originals and a fistfull of glitters into a blender! LOL!

I did some Googling and found that she is Malaysian electropop princess Ze! (Saerze). If loud and glam are your tastes, do check her out. :)

No, Ze was not doing the "I'm a Teapot Short and Stout" song above! Heheh!

This are what in the goodie bag....some Adidas stickers, a fluffy Adidas toy and a Hanger magazine. I wonder what were in the VIP goodie bags. They've been bragging it out on Twitters! :P

For those who missed the party, here are some snippets.

What out for the hilarious out of this world antics at the pool table. The light sabers now have new functions other than in a Jedi duel!

ENJOY!

Check out the awesome collaboration between dance diva Melissa Indot and hip hip artiste, Altimet!

And lastly some Bittersweet?

And no, the neighbours didn't call the police. The Street Party was AWESOME!
