"Volkswagen Marathon Series 2013"

PULAU LANGKAWI, 21 April 2013 – For the third consecutive time since "The River Jungle Marathon" in 2011, Volkswagen sponsored the "Volkswagen Marathon Series 2013".

This was part of the brand’s display of its commitment to "Think Blue." and its support towards the appreciation of nature.

Taking one step forward this time, Volkswagen took on the role of the official Title Sponsor for the "Volkswagen Marathon Series 2013".

The "Volkswagen Marathon Series 2013" consists of two breath-taking boutique runs, double of what was offered in 2011 and 2012. The Island Ocean Marathon was held on 21st April 2013 while The River Jungle Marathon will be held on 1st September 2013, both organised by The Marathon Shop.

The first event in Langkawi offered some 1,000 marathoners an opportunity to not only put their stamina to the test, but also to take in both fresh air and spectacular sights in Langkawi. The initiative was aligned with Volkswagen’s "Think Blue." which is an attitude that goes beyond technologies and products to influence a lifestyle of sustainability.

"Think Blue.“ was introduced in Malaysia in October last year, and coincided with the launch of the Touareg Hybrid.

Dr Zeno Kerschbaumer, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Malaysia mentioned, “Taking the time to spend on fitness is vital in achieving a healthy lifestyle. And this augurs well with an individual’s quest of striving for the best.“

These are fundamental to an environmentally responsible lifestyle. It is a stepping stone in learning to appreciate nature and understand the need to be environment friendly,“ added Dr Kerschbaumer.

The event in Langkawi was open to all ages and was divided into two categories, Male and Female. International and local participants marveled at great sights for a good 42.195km with participation of a cross section of runners; from beginners to advanced and from all ages.

Volkswagen supplied the vehicles needed for safety, medical and logictics purposes. There were also water stations put up to support marathon runners. Also, there was a photo contest held for participants who took the best photograph.

Details of "The River Jungle Marathon" in September will be announced at a later date.
