Fun Begins before The Race Started
Who is this Terry Fox person anyway? Terry Fox was a brave young Canadian who had his right leg amputated above the knee in 1977 following a cancer diagnosis. While in hospital Terry was so overcome by the suffering of cancer patients that he decided to run across Canada to raise both awareness of the disease and funds for cancer research. The run became known as the Marathon of Hope. He ran for 143 days and over 3,000 miles until he had to stop due to the return of cancer. Terry died shortly before his 23rd birthday in June 1981.
Nowadays there are many Terry Fox Runs all over the world to raise funds for cancer research. We used to have the Terry Fox run at Lake Garden, KL every year. However, there is no new about the run in KL this year. I am glad that this Terry Fox Run, Bangkok coincided with my travelling plan to Bangkok during the Deepavali break.
