We Made History: A Collection of Photos from the Inaugural Malaysia Women Marathon 2013

We were not even born yet when Kathrine Switzer made history as the first ever woman to run the Boston Marathon with a numbered bib. But we are indeed lucky enough to see her in action in the course of 8km run of Malaysia Women Marathon, running hand in hand towards the finish line.

We skimmed through hundreds of photos to bring to you some of our favourite shots from the MWM. Note: Photos are in random order.

At 4:30am sharp, 7 April 2013, history was made. Flagged off by running legend Kathrine Switzer at i-City, Shah Alam, the inaugural Malaysia Women Marathon (MWM) took the women runners to a new height (and high) in this country.

AirAsia X CEO, Azran Osman Rani and wife running the half marathon in identical skirts! Ko hado? Ko mampoo? Heheh!

"Ooo...gitu." Karen explaining some MWM facts to Selangor Chief Minister, Tan Sri Dato' Seri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

MWM 2013 Champ, Yee Pei Ni presented with an autographed copy of Marathon Women book by the Marathon Woman herself.

8tv and ntv7 group GM, Airin Zainul sweating it out in the half marathon. ntv7 will be organising the 3rd Feel Good Run in July. Details HERE.

If you can't run, march!!! LOL!

The O'Briens or better known as Couple On The Run.

The ladies from Kraftfit trying to challenge Kathrine Switzer and Karen Loh (in high heels) to a quad squat.

Thai Marathoner/ beauty queen, Thida Sonjaroen striking a Celebrunner pose at the MWM launch.

Air Asia Allstars runners and Kathrine Switzer jumping for joy after completing their MWM 8km race.

"I am kamming!" Capital FM’s Joanne Kam turned up at MWM for her first 8km race.

Instead of the usual T-shirt/ vest, MWM runners were given a piece of pareo / sarong each. Here’s how one couple used their pareo to celebrate their achievement.

The couple that made it happened. MWM race director, Karen Loh & hubby, Fred Liew. FYI, the logo and artworks of MWM are designed by Fred.

More MWM photos and exclusive coverage coming up soon. Stay tuned. Do like our FB page HERE for updates....

too bad this race was not sanctioned by any athletics association. organizers never coordinated after requests to do so. please include sanctioned, valid races on your blog. i like to run safely and at accurately measured distances.

Dear Anonymous,

Come on! If we were to include ONLY sanctioned by athletic association or so-called "valid" races in our blog, we don't have much material to write about. Our purpose is to promote running. So, we blog about all races including fun runs and boutique marathons. We believe MWM was meant to be a boutique marathon.

For whatever reasons that MWM in the end did not include any athletic association participation this year (perhaps due to financial consideration), they will do so in eventually should they want to grow any bigger than the 1500 participations they want to achieve. This is what we were informed.
