Review: Unboxing and On The Road Test of Skechers GoRun Ride
It was during the Men’s Health/ Shape Run last year that we noticed the pretty eye-catching and funky looking running shoes from Skechers, a brand well known for their lifestyle shoes. Now they have a new division called the performance division that includes Skechers GOrun, Skechers GOwalk and Skechers GOgolf footwear.
We decided to get a pair of Skechers GOrun ride from the GOrun series and check 'em out.
Skechers GOrun range all have M-strike technology to encourage a midfoot landing which is meant to be more efficient than heel striking.
Now, how does Skechers GOrun ride differ from the original Skechers GOrun shoe?
The Skechers GOrun shoe has a 4mm heel-to-toe offset (or drop). It is in the minimal category. The Skechers GOrun ride also has the similar 4mm heel-to-toe offset, however it has increased cushioning over the Skechers GOrun by 26%, and is targeted to those runners who are looking for lightweight running shoes with a bit more cushioning.
The shoes come with two pairs of laces. White and yellow.
The shoe is radically lightweight 220g per shoe based on a men’s size US9.
The lightweight construction features ultra light synthetic, mesh fabric upper and stay-put tongue.
The last eyelet of the lacing system is called the Vari-lock and can be used to lock your heel into the shoe ie. prevent heel from slipping out from shoe. Check out how to do a heel lock HERE.
M-Strike Technology™ promotes a Mid-Foot Strike. The extra cushioning under the midfoot makes it very difficult to land on the heel.
The midsole is made of Resalyte™ cushioning material for impact protection. Resalyte™ which is a injection-molded EVA compound with memory retention i.e have excellent energy return to make your "ride" more comfy yet faster. :)
The combination of small circles on the outsole provides traction while maintaining the flexibility. There are a few independent circular GOimpulse sensors (in blue) incorporated into the sole which offer flexibility and feedback to the bottom of your foot for a more responsive run.
The shoe features an integrated OrthoLite® anti-microbial removable sockliner helps inhibit odor and prevent slippage.
The shoes as a whole is very flexible, it can flex in just about every direction (360°) allowing your foot to move more naturally.
We love the roomy toe box – extra space to reduce friction and allow the toes to spread, grip and push off. We must say that we do not have any blister problem running in them for more than 6 months now.
Our verdict: Do you want to know what it feels like running on marshmallow? Try on a pair of Skechers GOrun ride. The cushioning is awesome yet the shoe is lightweight, almost as light a racer.
As a heel striker, it did take us months to get use to the shoe. The first time we ran in them we get leg cramps. LOL! But it was alright after awhile. The M-Strike Technology™ with cushioning in the midfoot of the shoe made it hard to land on the heel while running. The extra pressure under the midfoot does have a different feel which may not be for everyone.
We took our pair of Skechers GOrun ride for a 10km ride in last year’s Penang Bridge International Marathon. (see pic). We really appreciate the lightness and flexibility of the shoe.
Skechers GOrun ride retails for RM399 per pairs at the Skechers outlets.
