Photos: Larian Kitar Semula 2013 @ Padang Merbok, Kuala Lumpur
Larian Jom! Kitar Semula2013 was held for the third year and organised by Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing (PPSPPA) to promote and create awareness on recycling.
The event held simultaneously across 9 states in Peninsular Malaysia (except Penang, Perak & Selangor), managed to attract over 40,000 runners (this figure is quoted from the official press release)
This run differs from other road races because participants were requested to bring in various recyclable items like newspaper, aluminium can, Tetrapak dan plastic bottles to gain entry to the race
It's a family affair! The 3.5km distance is perfect for family run. Not too far for the kids and too strenuous grandpas or grandmas. So everyone could take part.
We believe the recycling habit should be instilled into the young ones. Larian Kitar Semula is a good initiative. We hope more educational and fun activities will be organised for the kids in conjunction of the run.
There were no prizes for the top runners but instead tones of lucky draw prizes in the form of electrical goods and bicycles were given away to lucky runners.
However, they have to stay and sit through a speech first by the minister.... (which is well worth it!)
According to Dato' Abdul Rahman Dahlan, the Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government, a good way to memorize Perbadanan Pengurusan Sisa Pepejal dan Pengurusan Awam, PPSPPA, is by remembering it as “Pipi Saya, Pipi Awak”. LOL!
FBI or Faizal Ismail, one of the country's top radio DJ brings lots of laughter to the event with his witty wisecracks.
Congrats to all the lucky draw winners! The grand draw prize was a BSN Premium Savings Certificate worth RM5,000!
