Media Release: Merdeka2016 Kuala Kubu Baru 21km Road Relay
Kuala Lumpur, 26 Julai 2016 - The inaugural Kuala Kubu Baru 21km Road Relay will be held on 3rd September, 2016 (Saturday), starting at 3pm at Stadium Mini, Majlis Daerah Hulu Selangor, Kuala Kubu Baru.
The event is the brainchild of former national middle-distance runner B. Rajkumar, who is born and bred in Kuala Kubu Baru. He is the organising chairman ambassador of the event. It is his small way of giving back to the sport he loves so much and still very passionate about.
The road relay is also a collaborative effort with Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur Athletic Association (FTKLAA) and Selangor Athletic Association (SAA) to revive the Road Relay Races that were popular in the 1960s to 1980s. It is also an effort to give athletes a new platform for competition and encourage the development of the sport at club level. It is also part of the Merdeka Day celebrations.
The running route has been mapped by FTKLAA officials to guarantee the runners a great running experience amidst the verdant greenery and interesting running terrain around the town of Kuala Kubu Baru. The race will be contested in the form of a relay wherein the baton, will be relayed among 4 runners per team. Each runner has to complete a running distance of 5.25 km along the interesting route before passing the baton to the next runner at the Stadium which will be the start, change of baton and finish station.
Each team shall consist of four runners as per entrance category stipulated. A timing chip will be affixed to the baton and each runner's time will be accurately recorded.
A Finisher medal and Finisher Tee (Dri-fit) will be awarded to each runner whose team completed the run. There will also be 3 trophies to be contested amongst the team — The Champion Trophy, The First Runner-Up Trophy, and the Second Runner-Up Trophy. There will also be cash prize money offered to a total RM14,500 for the eight categories,
