Kuala Lumpur, 19 April 2017, KL Tower International Towerthon Challenge event is back for the 17th year on Sunday, 14 May 2017. This annual event will be held with the objectives of providing opportunities to participants who want to test their physical and mental endurance and to challenge themselves to conquer the top of KL Tower. The event carries the theme ‘Let’s Be Victorious’ to excite the fever of KUALA LUMPUR 2017 (KL2017) 29TH SEA GAMES.
This race will start at KL Tower Open Parking area, where the participants need to run up the 800 meters hill until the lobby of KL Tower. From there, they will start to climb the 2,058 steps up to Megaview Banquet Hall located at 288 meters above the ground level.
“Since it was first held in 1998, the best timing record for individual Malaysian men so far was 11 minutes 56 seconds and the best timing record for individual Malaysian women was 14 minutes 51 seconds. We welcome all to try their best to beat the current records”, said Mr. Meor Shahril Anuar Ahmad Rathuan, Chief Executive Officer, Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn. Bhd.
"Special to this year's edition, the event will be a teaser to hype up the KUALA LUMPUR 2017 (KL2017) 29TH SEA GAMES. We will also introduce a new category which is Celebrity Category. Participation is opened to celebrities who are interested in extreme sports and want to challenge themselves to jointly climb 2,058 stairs at KL Tower. This means that this year, there are 9 categories that will be contested", he added.
In order to excite the event, Bomba Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur will be conducting Bomba Tower Running Competition that will be held on 13 May, morning as an additional activity to compliment to KL Tower International Towerthon Challenge 2017
They have also lined up a lot of other activities such as Bomba Mini Exhibition on safety, Bomba rescue team vehicle, flying fox, Mr. Wonderful Body Builder show, 90 minutes non-stop Zumba dance, Fit Youth Challenges, Belia Explorace, Flash Mob, Hakka Competition and many more from 13 to 14 May 2017.
On 14 May morning, Lamborghini Owners Club Malaysia will be showcasing 11 supercars especially for the runners and visitors of KL Tower International Towerthon Challenge 2017. They will be showcasing the evolution and history of Lamborghini supercars. The visitors and runners are encouraged to take this opportunity to learn about the fastest cars in the world.
After 16 years of organizing, this prestigious race is positioned as one of the signature sporting events for Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia as a whole. It also coincides with KL Tower aspiration to promote KL Tower as a destination for Culture, Adventure and Nature.
Participants must be aged 13 years and older. The fee for the Individual is RM80.00, Junior is RM40.00 and Foreigner RM110.00. While for participants with disabilities (OKU), the entry fee is free. Closing date for the registration 5 May 2017.
All the participants will stand a chance to win the overall cash prizes worth RM48,500.00. ‘The Best Timing’ for individual Malaysian Men and Women will win additional cash of RM2,000.00 each.
