Go Love - A Blind Dating Party

Yesterday we joined a bunch of guys and girls on a little adventure while doing good! It was a blind dating party – themed Go Love, in conjuction with Valentine's Day.

The main organisers of Go Love are GoCar as car sharing partner, The Picha Project as impact partner and Wowwwz as romance lifestyle partner.

Billed an Amazing Race-style blind dating event, GoCar provided its cars for the participants to drive to different locations within the Klang Valley.

Our journey started at the MUV, Jalan Putra, one of many GoCar pickup points in the city. After a quick registration process, we were given a short briefing by the GoCar’s Head of Marketing, Ashley Chew.

GoCar is a car sharing platform based in Malaysia where you can book a car by the hour or day and unlock the car by using their smartphone app. The process is relatively easy. We found a box containing key in the glove compartment. After opening the box with a passcode, we were good to go!

First destination: Lex Gallery in Cyberjaya.

Four strangers in a car. So, what do we talk about? Thanks to the love-experts from Wowwwz, we kept the conversation flowing using the car talk cards provided.

The ride in the Nissan Almera car was smooth. It's spacious and comfy; the sort of the car you can rent (even for a few hours) to drive your family around or to impress your hot date!

We arrived in Lex Gallery just in time for lunch.

Staying true to its slogan - "Do Good While Finding Love", all proceeds of the Go Love event will go to The Picha Project and E-lluminate in support of their efforts in empowering refugee families in Malaysia through their food delivery and education platform.

The awesome lunch was provided from various kitchens of The Picha Project, a social enterprise which aims to empower marginalised communities in Malaysia through a sustainable food catering and delivery business.

We get to sample Mandi Rice & Roasted Chicken (Palestinian), Nasi Pulut & Curry Chicken (Rohingya), Chicken Tantu & Bolani (Afganistan), Basboysa & Apple Crumble (Syria).

The Picha Project helps by providing a few refugee families a platform to generate income by cooking. We can help by ordering the delicious food from them here => http://www.pichaproject.com

The fun began after lunch with an ice-breaking session followed by three rounds of speed dating!

Each participant got the chance to speak to three different persons, spending some 5 minutes to get to know the other person better before moving to a new person. Being a first timer in speed dating, we find the question cards provided helped a lot in keeping the conversation going.

For those looking for love, you can continue the search by using the app Wowwwz. Find out more here => https://www.wowwwz.com/

The next destination was a Burmese Refugee Centre. This time we get to ride with some new car-sharing buddies. After three noisy sessions of speed dating just now, we sort of kept our conversation to a minimum...enjoying some peace and quiet along the ride. LOL!

And the highlight of the day was a fun and interactive handicraft making session with some Myanmar refugee kids, where we made our own pendant and necklace from recycled materials.

It was a creative way to raise awareness about the many plights that refugees face in Malaysia and all the proceeds from the event would go directly to The Picha Project and E-illuminate.

It's great to know that while we had fun mingling around, we have also indirectly helped to make the lives of refugee families in The Picha Project slightly better.

Throughout this event we get the chance to meet interesting and like-minded people from the opposite sex through speed dating by Wowwwz, travelled with them with GoCar Malaysia and enjoy great food from Picha Project.

At the end of the event, we were given an envelope filled with special messages from the people we met.

We certainly have met a lot of new people in the Go Love event. It also open our minds to the plights of the less fortunate refugees. It was a Saturday well-spent!
