How do you improve an iconic shoe that has been on the market for almost 30 years? In the 29th iteration of the shoe, ASICS has made the latest GEL-Kayano even lighter and even bouncier. Good? Let's find out.
I received the ASICS GEL-Kayano 29 for about a month now and have been using it for my daily run and also some road races. I did the PPUM Care Run 2022 (5K) in them (see pic above).
The GEL-KAYANO™ 29 (Wide) shoe creates a stable running experience and a more responsive feel underfoot.
To date, I clocked more than 100km in them. I have always been a fan of the ASICS GEL-Kayano. I love the plush, secure and stable feelings while running in them. Since, I am a overpronator, I love the support that I get from the shoe.

The upper is made using "Engineered Stretch-Knit" that helps reduce the need for traditional overlays. Being stretchy, it provides the foot with all the support while allowing some give for movements. For those environment conscious runners, you might be elated to find out that the upper is made from at least 50% recycled materials.

There are two new features for the ASICS GEL-Kayano 29, both found in the midsole layer.
- FF BLAST™ PLUS
FF BLAST™ PLUS cushioning provides lightweight impact absorption and a responsive rebound
The ASICS GEL-Kayano 29 is the lightest Kayano ever, thanks to the new lightweight FF BLAST™ PLUS foam, which also contribute to the bouncier feelings!
But fret not, the shoe's stability and support that we all love are still maintained by the IGS technology. IGS stands for Impact Guidance System, which is a set of functions that works together to give you optimal support and stability in your foot movement.
The FF BLAST™ PLUS foam is both light and soft, hence it helps to add some fun into your running experience. I quite enjoy the new sensation of the ASICS GEL-Kayano 29, especially in a long run.
In this new iteration, the resin/ plastic TRUSSTIC™ structure which was used in the middle part of the predecessors' sole is replaced by a new technology called the LITETRUSS™.
It is a system that works with the outsole and the midsole to provide that arch support that an overpronator is seeking in their running shoe, ie. help keep your foot from rolling too far inward during your stride.
Featuring a low-profile external heel counter, this piece comfortably cradles your foot with advanced rearfoot support. Rearfoot GEL™ technology cushioning provides good shock absorption
Like a trustworthy friend, the GEL Cushioning System provides excellent shock absorption for every step you make, enabling you to run farther and longer.
At least 50% of the shoe’s main upper material is made with recycled materials to reduce waste and carbon emissions
AHARPLUS™ heel plug improves the outsole durability
Lush cushioned tongue provides extra comfort for the foot.
The GEL-KAYANO™ 29 boasts an engineered stretch knit upper, made of a supportive upper material that helps reduce the need for traditional overlays.
3D SPACE CONSTRUCTION™ feature improves compression at footstrike
I am very happy with the ASICS GEL-Kayano 29. The new features, the FF BLAST™ PLUS and LITETRUSS™ help to make my running experience much more enjoyable, without sacrificing the stability and support that I love.
As a conclusion, ASICS GEL-Kayano 29 still lives up to its classic reputation of great support and stability, with a slightly lighter and bouncier ride. If you love stability like me, you can’t go wrong with this shoe!
