Alliance Bank Launches Inaugural Heritage Run in Support of Sustainability Development Goals

Kuala Lumpur, 21 June 2023 – Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad (“Alliance Bank” or the “Bank”) announced today that its inaugural Alliance Bank Heritage Run 2023 (“Heritage Run” or the “Run”) will take place on 29 October this year in George Town, Penang. As a community-centric organisation, the Run is part of the Bank’s focus to create a positive impact on society, the environment and the economy. It is in line with the Bank’s commitment to push the environment, social and governance (ESG) agenda forward and to support the Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) by raising awareness of sustainability issues as well as inspiring the community to take action through a variety of ESG-themed events, programmes and initiatives.

Mr Kellee Kam, Group Chief Executive Officer of Alliance Bank said, “At Alliance Bank, we believe in the need to build a more sustainable world by promoting environmentally responsible actions, positive social ethics and good governance among the communities and businesses that we serve. In view of that, we wanted to organise a community event that not only increases awareness and adoption of a more sustainable way life but one that takes on a greater purpose. Our inaugural Heritage Run not only embodies our values but also supports the SDG 11.4 – which focuses on efforts to safeguard and protect cultural and natural heritage at risk. Hence, the selection of George Town as the venue for our first flagship Run was an obvious choice given that it is one of the World Heritage Sites recognised by UNESCO. Apart from promoting this cultural heritage, the Bank will be working with a local artist to create a wall mural for a dedicated heritage site or community centre in Penang after the event.”

“This Run is for everyone and we anticipate more than 3,000 to 4,000 participants joining us at the event. In making this a family affair for all Malaysians, there will also be booths and fun activities at the venue set up by local businesses under our #SupportLokal banner to further amplify our rich multi-cultural heritage. Through this, we hope to foster closer ties with the locals in Penang and create an event that the community can look forward to” Kam added.

The Run will be held along the scenic and historical routes around George Town, Penang. Participants can visit http://www.alliancebankheritagerun.com to purchase their tickets. Two (2) open-courses are available for participants to select from; the 3-kilometre Family Walk or the 7-kilometre Run. Early bird Registrations with discounted rates (RM40 for 3KM and RM45 for 7KM) are open from now until 31 July 2023. Thereafter Normal Registration kicks in (RM50 for 3KM and RM55 for 7KM) through 17 September 2023, followed by Final Registrations (RM60 for 3KM and RM65 for 7KM) until the close of registration on 15 October 2023. All Alliance Bank Cardholders and registrations of 11 persons or more will get to enjoy further discounts. There has been an overwhelming response since the soft launch of this event on 9 June 2023, where over 2,500 participants have registered for the Run.

In keeping with the sustainability theme, registered participants will receive race packs consisting of reusable canvas bags, medals made from sustainable wood as well as T-shirts and lanyards made out of upcycled materials.

This flagship Run is also part of the Bank’s greater ESG agenda. Earlier in April, the Bank launched its survey report - “ESG Insights from Malaysian SMEs” to help business owners become more aware of the importance and benefits of adopting ESG, as well as practical advice on how to kickstart or enhance their journey towards sustainability. Additionally, the Bank has also partnered with ESG-related subject matter experts and service providers on several initiatives such as the Sustainability Assistance Programme, #financing4ESG, Green SME Nurturing & Development Programme, Partnership with IPC Shopping Centre on the “Gava with Your Recyclables” Campaign, among others, to help communities and businesses in Malaysia achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.
