The NCT 6000ft Run-Up presented a unique opportunity: a night stay at Wyndham Ion Majestic. As Malaysia's highest altitude hotel, nestled at 1,875 meters above sea level on the Titiwangsa mountain range, this stay promised a truly unique experience. This high-altitude adventure, culminating in a thrilling 50-storey tower run, promised to be a true test of my physical and mental endurance.

A serene fountain sits elegantly in front of the hotel. |
My journey began at KL Sentral, where I boarded a bus to Awana Skyway (RM10, approximately 1-hour ride). From there, a scenic cable car ride whisked me to Genting SkyAvenue. Finally, a 12-minute shuttle ride delivered me to the majestic hotel. (Note: Online booking for the shuttle is essential, as no counter is available at the Genting Main Terminal. Book at least 3 days in advance.)
|
The shuttle operates hourly, departing from the hotel at 8:10 AM and picking up from Genting SkyAvenue at 8:30 AM. |
The hotel truly towers above the landscape, a sight that both awed and intimidated me. Having never attempted a high-altitude tower run, I was acutely aware of the thinner air and the unique challenges it presented.

Check-in was a breeze, and I was soon settling into my spacious and cozy studio room on the 43rd floor. The views were breathtaking – a panorama of Resorts World Genting, the majestic mountains, and ever-changing clouds.

From my 43rd-floor vantage point, the view of Resorts World Genting was simply spectacular. |

After dark, the road winding its way to the hotel transforms, a ribbon of light snaking through the darkness. |
The room itself was well-appointed with comfortable twin beds, a large TV, an armchair, and a convenient pantry with a sink and mini-fridge.
The bathroom was clean and modern, with ample amenities. While there were no traditional closets, ample shelves provided ample storage space. The highlight, however, was the private balcony, offering a serene escape with panoramic vistas.

While the room didn't have built-in closets, it featured an abundance of shelves, providing ample space to neatly organize my belongings. |

I usually bring my own toiletries because I find many hotel brands to be drying. However, I was impressed by the quality of the shampoo and shower gel here. They were gentle on my skin and left it feeling refreshed. |
I woke up at the ungodly hour of 4 AM, eager to conquer the tower run. It was a bittersweet moment; the bed was incredibly comfortable, but the thrill of the challenge beckoned.
Long story short, after a grueling but exhilarating climb, I finally reached the Grand Ballroom on the 50th floor, having conquered all 1,052 steps. I'll be sharing my tower running experience in detail in a separate blog post – stay tuned!
The tower run, as expected, was a demanding experience. However, the post-race recovery was a delight. I enjoyed a leisurely breakfast at Ambrosia, the hotel's all-day dining restaurant on the 12th floor. The Asian fusion buffet offered a decent selection, but it was the stunning views that truly elevated the dining experience.

Such a shame I didn't have more time to chill in this pool. |

Sky-high relaxation and rejuvenation at the Wyndham Ion Majestic. |
While my stay was brief, it was undeniably memorable. Wyndham Ion Majestic offers a tranquil respite from the bustling theme park and casinos, making it an ideal base for exploring Genting Highlands.
With exciting new additions on the horizon, including the world's highest Hard Rock Café (opening soon in 2025) and other rooftop dining options, this hotel is poised to become an even more sought-after destination.
I left Wyndham Ion Majestic with a renewed appreciation for the beauty of the mountains and the unique challenges of the altitude tower running. I know I'll be back soon to explore further.
