Journey to Jishin: 1,500 Runners Celebrate Japanese Culture with Record-Breaking Energy in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur, 1 June 2025 – A wave of color and energy took over Dataran DBKL this morning as 1,500 participants joined the Journey to Jishin Fun Run, a unique cultural-themed event inspired by Japanese traditions. Held in conjunction with KL Car Free Morning, the event brought together runners of all ages along scenic 5KM and 7KM routes through the heart of the capital.

Organised by Fine Today, the fun run aimed to blend wellness, community, and cultural appreciation. General Manager of Fine Today, Frederick Ng, shared that the event reflects the company’s commitment to helping women embrace their individuality and strength.

“At Fine Today, we believe that self-confidence begins with self-celebration. Our brands are here to support women in feeling proud of who they are, inside and out, and today’s run is a celebration of that spirit,” he said.

A highlight of the event was its bold attempt to enter the Malaysia Book of Records for the “Most Held Koi Socks While Running”, a nod to Japan’s iconic koinobori (carp streamers), symbolising strength and determination. All runners received their very own koi windsock to wave during the run, transforming the streets into a vibrant, moving river of colour.

The run was jointly flagged off by 1. YB Datuk Seri Dr. Zaliha binti Mustafa walkabout to booth, Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri ; and YBhg. Dato' Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Mayor of Kuala Lumpur and Mr. Frederick Ng, GM of Fine Today.

Participants were also treated to an immersive cultural experience post-run with Japanese-themed booths, interactive activities, and a Best Dressed Competition featuring cosplay and traditional attire. Goodie bags included exclusive self-care products from TSUBAKI, SENKA, MA CHÉRIE, and FINO – brands under Fine Today.

As koi flags fluttered and laughter echoed through the city streets, Journey to Jishin reminded everyone that the spirit of togetherness and joy can indeed move us forward — one colorful step at a time.
