2,000 Expected for Return of Kampung Tunku x Dking Durian Sarong Run 2026

Petaling Jaya, 11 May 2026 – The streets of Petaling Jaya are set to transform into a vibrant display of heritage and athleticism this August as the Kampung Tunku x Dking Durian Sarong Run 2026 officially returns. Scheduled for Sunday, 16 August 2026, at SS2 Park, the 5km fun run aims to celebrate the Merdeka spirit through an unconventional blend of traditional attire and Malaysia’s iconic "King of Fruits."

The event is a strategic collaboration between the Office of Kampung Tunku State Assemblyman (ADN) Lim Yi Wei and Dking, Malaysia’s premier durian brand. This second edition of the run looks to build on its previous success, inviting 2,000 participants to run in sarongs to honor the nation’s cultural roots.

A Run Through History

The choice of location carries significant historical weight. Named after Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman, the Kampung Tunku SS1 neighborhood has been a cornerstone of Petaling Jaya’s growth since the 1960s. The area was once home to the Tunku himself, as well as the descendants of National Laureate Usman Awang and Kapitan Yap Ah Loy. By hosting the run here, organizers seek to connect the modern sporting community with the legacy of the nation's founding figures.

Running for a Cause

Beyond the festivities, the event serves a philanthropic purpose. Organizers have confirmed that proceeds from the run will be channeled to schools within the Kampung Tunku constituency, supporting local educational development and infrastructure. The six beneficiary schools in Kampung Tunku are SMK (P) Sri Aman, SJK (C) Sg Way, SK Kampung Tunku, SK Taman SEA, SMK Taman SEA, SJK (C) Puay Chai and SMK Seri Permata.

Every participant will receive an official event t-shirt, finisher medal, race bib, and e-certificate. In a signature reward for the event, the first 2,000 registered participants who complete the run will be entitled to a 300g pack of fresh durian from Dking and Durella.

The highlight of the event remains the "Sarong" element. Runners are encouraged to showcase their creativity by styling their sarongs in bold, traditional, or contemporary ways. A panel of judges will select the "Best Dressed" participants, who will stand a chance to win exclusive prizes.
