Kuala Lumpur, 15 January 2020 – Through the continuous support of an expanding customer base, Sports Direct Malaysia, today opened its latest elevated superstore @ Bangsar Village 3, in the affluent Bangsar suburb of KL. This standalone store boasts a retail footprint of close to 18,000 sf, and marks the 30th store in Malaysia, since inception back in 2011.
The launch was marked by an informal cocktail party and store-walk for invited guests with some welcoming remarks from Paul Gibbons, Managing Director of Sports Direct Malaysia and witnessed together with the media, various sport groups & associations plus key brand partners including; Adidas, Nike, Puma, Under Armour, Asics and others.
“We are continuing to develop this new store concept as part of our elevation strategy to enhance the customer experience throughout their shopping journey. Our principal aim remains as delivering unparalleled value and variety but now in a fresh, easy-to-shop format across our various sports and lifestyle zones” said Gibbons. “This includes LED screens both at the entrance and instore to better update on latest promotions, trends and activities” he added.
“There are now 8 elevated stores open across the country in some of the largest shopping malls, with another 9 in various stages of planning due to open over the next 18 months (3 of which will open before end April at Tropicana Garden Mall, One Utama Shopping Centre & Sunway Iskandar Big Box Johore). This evolution is key to maintaining a close working relationship with all our key brands and to ensuring our customers get the best available choice and service within a very comfortable environment” Gibbons elaborated.
The store opening also marked the company considering itself ‘Export Ready’ with plans to take the concept overseas starting this year with stores planned in Singapore and discussions underway for Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.
The store is uniquely zoned by key sports categories which include; SD Football, SD Running, SD Training (fitness, cross-training, gym equipment, weights, boxing, yoga), SD Rackets (badminton, tennis, squash), SD Swimming (pool, beach, water sports), SD Sports (basketball, rugby, extreme games, cycling, skates & indoor games), SD Lifestyle (Kids Women & Men) & SD Outdoor (Hiking, trekking, camping & fishing).
