Exploring Pantai Teluk Mak Nik, aka Monica Bay, where serenity reigns. |
Just the other day, my friends Mizan, Nunny, and I took a fantastic road trip from Pekan, Pahang, to the lovely coastal town of Kemaman, Terengganu. We were chasing the perfect day: delicious bites, inspiring sights, and the kind of chill you can only find by the sea. Kemaman, it turns out, was holding all the cards. Let's rewind and relive the magic.

Vibrant boats and salty air—Kuala Kemaman at its finest. |
Kemaman, located in the southernmost district of Terengganu, Malaysia, is a vibrant coastal town known for its rich history, natural beauty, and thriving industries. Nestled along the South China Sea, it serves as a gateway to Terengganu and is bordered by the state of Pahang to the south. The district's administrative centre is Chukai, a bustling town that blends traditional charm with modern development. Kemaman is renowned for its fishing industry, petrochemical activities, and cultural heritage.

Lunch was at Warung Bira Perahu, a local gem known for its ICT (Ikan Celup Tepung). ICT is a Terengganu specialty – seafood deep-fried in a light, crispy batter. We indulged in fried fish, squid, and keropok lekor. The batter was perfectly crispy, and the seafood was fresh and delicious.

Our final stop was Pantai Teluk Mak Nik, affectionately known as Monica Bay by the locals. This beach is a hidden gem, with its sandy shores and coniferous trees providing ample shade. It's an ideal spot for a picnic, although we weren't prepared this time.
